    great tutorial, definately going to make my own bean bag! one thing, if the square needs to be 26" by 27", it would make a 26" by 13.5" rectangle. if it were 15.5" it should've been 26" by 31"

    Tanner Bell I have QUESTIONS: I know this is an old vid but I'm planning on making one at home.
    - How much filler in kilogram did you spend for the one you just made.
    - Dimension(length-width) for the cuts.

    When you say sew down the long sides, do you mean the short edges of the long sides or the long ends. Looking at the tube it seems to be the shorter edges

  • @alisabethlewis2952

    4 big sides 2 sides for top and bottom, sew every single side of the four sides except the top and bottom to make a tube, then sew all four sides of the two pieces of fabric meant for the top n bottom, to the tube of fabric, sew a zipper, fill it.

      Hey Ali! For this size bean bag we used 6.5 yards of fabric. The zipper we used was 24" long. The filler can be bought online from fairfieldworld.com or at a store like Jo-Ann Fabrics. Hope that helps and let us know if you have any other questions!

    how much money did you spend on the two bags of filler? is it worth making one rather than buying one?

    • @blooberchik1
      @blooberchik1 6 років тому +7

      you can find a bag of filler for like $17 each. buying a bean bag about this size would cost anywhere from $130-$200. fabric could cost about $35-$50 for this project depending on the type you want and where you buy. the whole project, if you bought the most expensive filler i could find from bed bath and beyond for $24 and a more expensive fabric for about $50 for 5 yards, the cost of making the bean bag is about $98. obviously you can decide NOT to buy the more expensive filler and you can choose a cheaper fabric like drill. so like... if you enjoy making things and you really cant spend the extra money to just buy a bean bag chair then i would say making the chair is a better option. for someone like me, being able to buy these supplies over a period of time and then make it is the best option bc i cant buy a bean bag chair at all, i just dont have the money for it and its not like you can make payments on a bean bag lmao.

    • @seananderson7087
      @seananderson7087 6 років тому +1

      What you haven't realized is that it takes several bags of filler to fill one beanbag chair. Go on amazon and look at the weights for beanbag chairs, and compare it to the weights of the filler bags.
      This one chair they made probably took 5 bags.
      But the bags vary as much as 4x in product.
      Anywhere from 1.25 lbs to 5.2 lbs Is what I've seen so far.

      cut four pieces 45x26 and one square 26x26. the last end is 26x27 and then you cut it in half so its 26x15.5 this leaves a half inch seam allowance on each piece for it to be sewn to the zipper down the center. once the zipper is installed the piece will be 26x26 just like the other side. sew it on and you're done, flip it inside out and fill it with foam "beans"

    This was the most helpful tutorial I found, thank you. I changed the measurements to suit my needs - a beanbag nest bed for my son with special needs. I made it 3½ feet wide by 4½ long and just 2 feet deep. It's got tons of plushes, but still has more room. I'm going to cut up a big foam mattress from a friend to help stuff it. I only overlapped the bottom (by about 10 inches), but am considering adding buttons to keep it closed. It's not really a problem at the moment, but we've only used it for one night so far.

    I'm going to try this, just not sure how you take a piece that is 27" wide and cut it into two pieces that are 15.5"... the math doesn't add up. But if I don't have a zipper, I'm going to just make it overlap or velcro anyway. I'm going to stuff it with plush toys.

    Hello! I'm sorry you got so many negative comments, mine won't be... I understood how to create the chair, my question is, how do I know how many pounds of shredded memory foam to buy? I checked amazon and it's about $26 for 5 pounds. I want to make my grandson a chair/sofa. Approx. 90x48x34. Is there a way to calculate it....like "N x square foot = pounds of foam?" Any help would be appreciated, thank you and take good care of you and yours.

  • @seananderson7087

    What they don't tell you is it takes SEVERAL of those bags to fill that bag. I've been doing the math tonight. Looking into prices and stuff. It costs WAY more to make one rather than buy one. If you REALLY want to make a custom one, buy one and either reuse the pellets or just slip a new cover over the old one.

    • @MoffiDog
      @MoffiDog 2 роки тому

      Is there an alternative filling you could use instead? Or maybe use some on the bottom for weight, and stuffing for the rest?

    • @seananderson7087
      @seananderson7087 2 роки тому +1

      @@MoffiDog Unfortunately not, all viable fillings are already on the market, when the filling makes up 99% of the final product, ultimately the factories that can buy it in bulk are the ones who get it cheapest.
      In theory you could maybe break down Styrofoam from things you buy, but eh... not sure on longevity. And it would take a while.

    We bought two of these over a year ago and a third one for our youngest son about a month ago. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxiNqzPU24cNp1qpWDRC3Gpt8kGvonthOo They have held up shockingly well considering what our rough and tumble children have done to them (picture launching off a lofted bed and landing on the bean bag type of use). They use these bags nearly every day for reading, pokemon battling, etc. Our older kids did pop a seam on their bags, but I just used some liquid stitch and problem solved. After about of year of use the beans inside the bags were pretty flat/compressed so we bought a replacement bag for each and filled it up again (WHAT A MESS! but the chairs are back in tip top shape). Looking forward to another year of solid use from these.

      It really isn't as hard as it looks and there are videos out there to hep you with little things if you get stuck along the way. It way seem intimidating, but you honestly just have to start somewhere! Maybe try a simpler project first like a pillow and build your way up to the bean bag! Iff you do decide to go for it, let us know how it goes!

  • @redracist
    @redracist 6 років тому +1

    Okay, this is... well, bad. I understand why people don't get it.
    But a simple idea popped into my head after watching a few of these videos.
    I'm going to make a cube.
    Two pieces of fabric needed. With measurements 1:3 (e.g. if one side is 25cm, then the other is 75cm)
    Zipper is not a must (but you could sew one on one of the edges).
    Now you just have to sew two boxy C (or U) letters together accordingly.
    Don't know if it helps anyone other than me though... :D If anyone is interested, I can explain in more detail.

    • @saucin2990
      @saucin2990 6 років тому

      i think i understand where youre gettin at. only thing im confused would be the dimmensions of cutting the two fabrics into either c shape or u shape. could you explain a bit more?

    • @JorjeAxline
      @JorjeAxline 6 років тому

      If you make two Cs (or Us) with your hands, you can turn them and cup them together to make one ball / cube. Same concept. When a company has a box made, they don't use a separate piece of cardboard for each side.

  • @Faeryrose618
    @Faeryrose618 5 років тому +3

    For the people who couldn't understand her directions obviously you've never sewn anything together properly she explained this almost perfectly. You cut 4 long pieces of fabric for the length of the bean bag, example a 45 by 26 inch piece then you cut out a 26 x 26 inch square for one side then so you can put the zipper on it in order to stuff it you cut out a 26 x 27 inch square you cut that square in half then sew the zipper to the 2 half squares then you sew the fabric together right sides together example the pattern side not the plain side so it doesn't look stupid. Before criticising someone else how about you try to understand.
