Yeah, unless you are reading them while tumbling down the side of a mountain, or while participating in a chili eating competition they shouldn't get that beat up.
PubeStache It’s crazy! The X of Swords was $7 and any of the card stock covers add $1! Buy a few books each week and it adds up really quick.

Nice pickup. Because of COVID and all the lockdowns, etc. I have become VERY comfortable with reading books online. So now I choose to read ALL my books on my laptop and keep them in the bags/boards when I pick-up from the LCS so there is no chance of damage. Sometimes you just HAVE to see the artwork up close so THEN I will be much more careful. THANKS for sharing.

Gary, you paid a fair price for a fair ( condition ) modern collection.
I always buy two copies ( or more ) of each current comic book, putting the high grade copy in a Golden Age Size Mylites2 ( with two Golden Age Size backing boards ) then into storage and keeping the lower grade copy as a reader.

The term Modern Age can be somewhat confusing as it started in 1985. It’s harder to get pristine books from that time period. Maybe there should be a new time period for books from the last 10 years. Plus the paper stock being used is so susceptible to any type of imperfection.
So what is Copper age? Is that synonymous with Modern? Mind you, I started collecting in 1983(when I was 10) so even Bronze age was a new term back then.
Copper covers the 80's and into early 90's. Everything from 1992 to current is considered Modern.
But i agree that its time to close the book on that time frame and create a name. I think 1992-2012 should be named, and 2013-current should be modern.
I consider anything after 92 modern

However what is your opinion, for at what age of a book is it to be no longer considered modern? Is it after they reach 30 years old, 40 years old, 50 years old.
At some point in time, we should stop calling a book a modern.
@@1standkeys28 Gotcha, makes sense. I only(generally) collect pre-’90 books so 'modern' as a category is out of my wheelhouse.

Good deal. You can probably double up at least on the stuff shown and then everything else if you get $1 a pop for, it will work out. If I can double my money, or come close, I will always buy. Mind you I don't factor in my time...I consider it part of the hobby. Gotta spend some time selling to support the buying.
Respect that you do clarify that you view comics as an investment not going to lie though I’ve seen way worse conditioned books and it seems that the person you bought the books from really loved their comics and the fact they bagged and boarded their books shows the care they have most people don’t. Not complaining about how you view the comics especially when trying to get them properly graded but most can’t afford multiple copies to hermetically seal one and read the other. Having read books gives the books an extra heart and soul that I think maybe next time instead of saying not handled well attribute the fact that this person clearly loves their books. I personally send books off for grading from purchasing others collections but just was a little hard to hear how you described someone’s collection when most don’t put half the care that this person did. 9.8s can’t replace loving the stories and beautiful art within the books. Love the channel and not talking down your opinion whatsoever it was just rough to hear some of the way you discussed this persons collection.

I try to keep my current books as crisp as possible. When it comes to some of the ones from early 90's and 80's I have are readers but in good condition since back then they were my favorite things. I kept them well enough not thinking about resale value but how I valued them for myself. Once I got into collecting more heavily now don't even look at books like the ones I owned before.

As someone who collected in the late 80s, I think the grading craze is ridiculous. It would have been good to show some of the damage described as well and give opinions on what it would possibly grade out as for reference. Enjoyed the video!
Thats the great thing about this hobby. There are so many different ways to collect and enjoy it

$150 is fair. The books were read and not in pristine condition. Some nice books to pick up at that price. Great video as always.

Fabok is working with Prime 1 on a Batman statue, Superman v Doomsday, Wonder Woman v Hydra and Penguin. The Batman is the standout to me.
Still a nice purchase. I’m sure you’ll have no problem flipping those, especially the sets.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal for the books you got. Will take work to turn them around understandably but sounds not bad.
Great Collection. A lot of modern books get handled poorly by Diamond. It is a struggle to find a 9.8 nowadays. I hate spending additional money on pressing but I have to. I got an X-Men 1 retailer incentive that is worth over a 100 dollars. Bough it for 14 and it was dinged up bad by Diamond.
I read all my comics but will take some extra issues of particular versions I want slabbed so as to keep them extra crisp 👌🏻

You're right all these modern books should be well kept since they're new no excuses on to mishandle books like these or any other book at all.
The Ultimates comic issue #2 with the Galactus Da Vinci, cover art looks almost like the '92, Wonder Man Mirror/Mirror comic art issue #15.

If Aquaman convergence #2 was in those convergence books, that is a really good spec book, most people don't know it, but that's Doctor Fates 1st cameo.

It does make me wonder if the seller just picks up these books from other jobs either for free for for pennies and resells. The reason I say this is the weird storage, organization and they have bags and boards this go around.

It's getting harder to find perfect books at alot of lcs. It seems almost everything from diamond has spine corner defects. I frequent 2-3 shops in the Chicagoland every week & it's common at those shops consistently. It's more common on marvel, dc and image. I wonder if it's a paper quality issue?
Totally agree. I'm not sure what's going on at Diamond but so many of the comics I see on the shelves at my local shop are BEAT.

I have just got that ultimates run for free. I will keep an eye on them books
I have read silver and bronze age books, then sent to cgc and have gotten grades of 9.6 and 9.8, my oldest 9.8 was a flash 175 black cover, also a fantastic four 64 CBC 9.8
Both came graded back to me cgc 9.8
Check the spec on that Point One stuff.

How is he handling a Venom #26 and getting it to an 8.5 grade? I think if you're careful reading a comic, unless its a square bound, shouldn't cause any major damage.
Yep, otherwise them being graded would bring them down, how else to perform an inspection of the inside.

Wow! Shocking that reading a book even once can cause it to lose value! I am extremely careful when I read my books. The books you showed seem in excellent condition. That’s exactly how I store mine.
I would have for sure payed the 150 just to read all these, also nice video as always. Only 50 more to go

When you mentioned the packing of the books, were you saying he had them packed loose in the longboxes and that is bad because they should be packed tight, or were you just saying the ones in the plastic things was too tight and it damaged the books pressing against the rim.

5 long boxes at least 1000 books the boards and bags cost roughly $100. That guy must really be hurting for money the teen titans 12 even in 8.0 is worth a chunk plus the other books. Damn that was great deal for you. These people who are selling these books are way too hard up for money. He could of sold all them for more on fb marketplace even in not NM condition. Good video. Pretty much a steal.
