You definitely let the wind out of a lot of peoples sails on raising chickens cheap. You are 100% right on it costing a good bit. You can either have cheap chicken, or you can have good chicken. But good ,cheap chicken is a different bird all together. LOL Excellent video!
Remember that everything doesn’t have to be money making. For instance, keep chickens as a hobby. I play golf and spend money doing it as a hobby, certainly not to make money. The enjoyment of these activities brings me pleasure and relaxation.
Glad you enjoyed it! I generally don't let me chickens go broody because 1) I get less eggs when that chicken is sitting on eggs and not laying. And 2) that chicken may not actually sit long enough to hatch the eggs. It's not as reliable as using an incubator and there are so many more variables that could go wrong.
Our chickens help there self to my garlic and onion patch when the gate is not shut . They have never had problems, i even throw some out in the kitchen scraps quite often.. I am not sure why they say that , i actually feed it to all my animaLs it keeps flys and fleas off them.
Don't these chickens lay some eggs? If you eat eggs then the cost of the eggs you would have bought would be significant in calculating the cost of the meat.
Why don't you use a small axe (or hatchet) instead of a knife to remove the head of the chicken? I use a hatchet and a small bungee cord to hold the chicken in place? I love your show, please put out more content. 😊
Did you replace the battery in your smoke detector yet🤣

Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Say, what are pros and cons to using an incubator vs letting the chicken brood and hatch their own eggs?
