Gen 2 is still my favorite, even after playing the series for 20+ years. You already know my Johto team, Mystic. You did a whole video on it last year, and it was pretty cool.
Hiya. Would you admit tho. The having to use hms does put a stop to you having your dream team ? For example gen 2 ..im.having to carry 2 water types cos of surf, waterfall and whirlpool. As you dont want to teach them 3 moves to just 1 water type?

I also recently played Crystal on the Virtual Console and for the first time (since my first ever playthrough of gen 2) I chose Chicorita. The final team ended up being Meganium, Pidgeot, Poliwrath, Arcanine, Red Gyarados and Nidoking. I loved it so much despite the fact that I didn't use any Johto pokemon apart from the starter hehe.
I just wish gen 2 was harder.
Inspired by that NPC I tried food theme nicknames too. Now I use deseases and deadly sins. My Kanto team I use in my current playthrough of Blue is:
*Pride* - Charizard
*Wrath II* - Gyarados (plan to replace it with Sloth the Slowbro)
*Envy* - Mew
*Lust* - Mewtwo
*Wrath* - Rhyhorn
*Greed* - Gengar
I plan to play Crystal with:
*Herpes* - Typhlosion
*Psychosis* - Noctowl
*Bronchitis* - Politoed
*Gonorrhea* - Jynx

I played Crystal last year and it was quite an experience. I had used Typhlosion, Slowbro, Victreebel, Heracross, Miltank, and Shuckle.
Shuckle is crazy lol but I respect it.
@aramismcginty918 lol yeah, I used Shuckle as a personal challenge. I liked the idea that it got both the TMs for Defense Curl and Rollout plus the Hard Stone in this game and wanted to make use of it. It worked for the most part. In Kanto, I was using Toxic, Protect, and Leftovers with it, too. Honestly, the whole team was a challenge. That Weepinbell was using Sleep Powder, Growth + Vine Whip most of the time until it got Razor Leaf and Sludge Bomb. Then, the Slowpoke was relatively weak until it became a Slowbro before Claire. Heracross was lacking any useful stab before Megahorn in Kanto and was carried by Headbutt and its massive attack stat. Sure, it had Rock Smash and Fury Cutter, but look at the base power, man lol
I love Pokémon Crystal! My team was Typhlosion, Ursaring, Crobat, Bellossom, Umbreon, and Lanturn
This team had great synergy, and I loved the idea that half my team was made of new evolutions to old Pokémon. Had a blast with this team
Hopefully, we get a best team no restrictions series completion with Pokémon RBY, HGSS, B2W2, USUM and the Let's Go games.

@@thirstyIotus When? I think you might be confusing "Johto" for HGSS; that team is for GSC which are very different games due to various mechanics.
Cool team, I also love transferring Pokemon from different generations to spice up my playthroughs like for example Darmanitan and Noivern to my Alpha Sapphire run or Celebi from Crystal VC to my Moon playthrough.
My most recent VC Crystal playthrough was three years ago and my team was very unusual imo. I used: Meganium, Donphan, Unown I, Electabuzz, Farfetch'd and Suicune.
However my most recent Johto playthrough happened this year on SoulSilver. My team was: Feraligatr, Noctowl, Golem, Glaceon, Scizor and Mismagius.
I had to trade my Eevee to my Pearl to evolve it into Glaceon there but it was super fun to use a Glaceon in Johto.
The crazy part is I was just watching the best team for remastered HG/SS and I LOVEEDDDDD gen 2 wasn't the first but it was amazing... Keep up the best teams really helps me refresh my mind because I'm currently replaying HG/SS Remastered and it's the only one I've generally enjoyed beisdes black and white X and Y
I've been playing Crystal, too -- or at least, a ROM Hack called Perfect Crystal that made a ton of quality of life changes that make it the definitive way to play Crystal.
My team for it was Feraligatr, Bellossom, Houndoom, Scizor, Dodrio, and Mew. Aside from Feraligatr, these were all Pokémon I've never used in a playthrough before, and I thought I'd spice things up and try something new for a change. It helped make this playthrough new and fresh for me. Not to mention, it was pretty fun to use this team.
What are the changes?
Last Johto team I used wasn't anything too crazy; Meganium, Quagsire, Venomoth, Scizor, Jynx, and Lanturn, but I decided to take a page out of the region's cities' playbook and name them all after flowers. That was a good bit of fun ^-^
Love the team! I wish I had a way to trade over Pokémon from my other virtual console games, but alas I only have the one 3ds. I’m playing through Crystal again, and this time I’m using unevolved Pokémon in the mix!
Currently my team is:
- Cyndaquil - wanted to keep it first form because I love the sweet echidna
- Abra - one of my all time favs. Honestly having constant access to teleport and the elemental punches has been just fine for it. That base SpA still puts in work!
- Poliwhirl - I love how early you can catch Poliwag in Crystal, and Poliwhirl is such an iconic Pokémon.
- Haunter - not even mad I can’t trade evolve this one, as Haunter aesthetically is still so cool and strong
I’m unsure for my last two slots. I’ve considered Umbreon, Scyther, Togetic, Nidorino, and Dragonite, but for now I’m just using Noctowl to be my flier.
Nidorino is another unevolved mon I adore, always have loved the way it looks. Not a ton of move options sadly.
All in all I’m enjoying revisiting my favorite region.
Nice team, Mystic. Kinda funny. After seeing the trailer for Paldean Wooper and seeing it get leaked before that, I had a dream about training a Quagsire in Sword and Shield and decimating several of my opponents with it. So I think that this dream is implying to me wanting to try using one in Scarlet and Violet.
I recently did a playthrough of crystal too and used 2 of the same pokemon you did mystic.
My team was:

Ursaring
Graveler
Shiny Noctowl (was going to use Kenya but can't turn down the chance to use a shiny in a playthrough)
Nidoqueen
Slowbro
Was a really fun playthrough and they all had dominate moments plus I didn't get in too much trouble with water types
I really dig this team! Pretty unique and looks super fun!! I’m working on a Crystal journey rn and the final team will end up being Dragonite, Espeon, Heracross, Typhlosion, Lapras, Ampharos!

You can't get Ampharos on Crystal. I did a playthrough recently and used Electubuzz instead with Thunderbolt, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Cross Chop (egg move).

My team in Gold was Typhlosion, Togetic, Sudowoodo, red gyrados, ampheros, and
Unbreon but if I decide to replay the game I used the best Pokémon you mentioned.
I was playing crystal on my 3ds I stopped before the Elite 4 battle.
That was a while ago. I was planning on breed a Skarmory with a Fearow or Dodou in hopes of the offspring would know pursuit and also train up tyrogue and evolve it into a Hitmonlee.
I recently did a Crystal playthrough with Totodile as my starter, and I elected to transfer over a Charmander from Gen 1. That team slayed, especially when Dragonite and Tyranitar entered after Nidoking and Espeon.
I did the same and my team was created using Pokemon Yellow which I played first lol
Crystal's team was: Alakazam, Machamp, Gengar, Gyarados, Arcanine, and Dragonite.
Basically the Kanto All Stars.
I never limit myself to requiring a starter. I build teams based on a theme. And never do I mess around with what's available on the way. I create teams that are full from the jump lol
I always choose Meganium as my starter. It's my favorite pokemon of all time and I don't care if Grass is terrible in Gen 2. I just get the in-game trade for Onix to help with the first 2 gyms and the in-game trade Machop for the 3rd gym. My final team at the end of my most recent playthrough after beating Red was: Meganium, Houndoom, Starmie, Skarmory, Piloswine, and Heracross.
This team is LEGENDARY, no puns intended! You make me wanna play Crystal now.. not that I can use this time capsule myself
I replayed Crystal recently. Why would you need a time capsule when emulators exist?

So my team for johto playthrough was almost exactly the same, with the exception of mew and bulbasaur.
It's usually espeon and if it's crystal where mareep isn't available I'll get heracross but other wise its Mareep.
Typhlosion and Pidgeot being my 2 favorite Pokémon always are on the list lol
My team for Crystal was Feraligtr, Crobat, Donphan, Ursaring, Shiny Hitmontop, and Umbreon. My most recent SoulSilver team was Feraligtr, Magcargo, Steelix, Ambipom, Umbreon, and Xatu.
2:18 Oh really? Jolteon was my first Level 100 back in Pokémon XD.
Mew did trip me up as an actual team member, and Bulbasaur had me going "wait, isn't that a reward for beating Red?" Glad you got one sooner.

I’ve recently done a Crystal No damage run. I started with Totodile. My team for the League was Kadabra and Kenya the fearow. My team for Red was just Kenya
Gen 2 is amazing... For me it was a peak/milestone for Pokémon!! Felt like a proper Pokémon game!! Gen2 doesn't get the love it deserves
Just finished a Crystal nuzlock play through about 2 weeks ago I used Typhlosion, Nidoking, Jynx, Magneton, Dragonite and slowbro.
Loved the team... Shame no space for chicorita this time!!

Just started gold , i traded over eggs of charmander , bulbasaur and squirtle . Got a kadabra and pidgeotto top and going to use jolteon as my last pokemon . I wanted a typical kanto team this time around.
Bought SoulSilver since I’ve never experienced Gen2. Already decided my team for my first Playthrough.

That looks like a pretty decent team. It looks like you’ve taken the time to think about type coverages. You should have no problems getting through the game with this team
@@ariesstorm9577 yeah with some exceptions i try to always have a water type, grass type, electric type and fire type and fill the rest with pokemon i love. What was your team in Gen 2?
@@alexterieur8813 sorry for the late reply. I can’t remember my original gen 2 team (think that was 20 years ago lol). I do remember having Feraligatr, Umbreon, Red Gyarados and Lugia though.
I tried to replicate my original Silver team when I bought Soul Silver back in 2010. It’s taken a while but I’ve found the Pokemon I had transferred to other games:
Feraligatr (27/3/2010) - lvl 71: Surf, Rock Smash, Crunch, Dragon Claw
Machoke (30/3/2010) - lvl 53: Rock Climb, Karate Chop, Dynamic Punch, Vital Throw
Red Gyarados (6/4/2010) - lvl 47: Bite, Dragon Rage, Avalanche, Hyper Beam
Lugia (12/4/2010) - lvl 60: Extrasensory, Ancient Power, Hydro Pump, Aeroblast
Dragonite (9/4/2010) - lvl 55: Extreme Speed, Dragon Dance, Wing Attack, Dragon Rage
Umbreon ? - I know I had one because most times I will evolve Eevee into Umbreon, just like my original Silver play through.
The dates are when I caught the Pokemon

How does trading on virtual console work? Like do I need the two games on two separate DS systems, or can both be on 1? If I bought Silver and Red versions on one DS, can I log in on another to access either game. Like are the Virtual console games tied to a DS or an account?

went Cyndaquil into Tyhplosion
Poliwag into Politoad by catching a slowpoke holding kings rock in slowpoke well
oddish into Bellossom with the sun stone from the bug catching contest
Scyther from bug catching contest into Scizor using metal coat from a wild magnemite
Swinub from ice path into Piloswine
and Natu into Xatu from ruins of alph
Can have 5 out of 6 of these pokemon after Morty and the team strictly uses Gen 2 pokemon
Would use Murkrow over Xatu but you know they put it in Kanto :(

My original team (Crystal) was Feraligatr, Donphan, Magneton, Heracross, Umbreon & Skarmory (I had Fearow until Skarmory)
I think it would be great if we had a game on the Switch where we have all the games gen 1 - gen 7
How about a best team with only new gen Pokémon series like johto with only Johto Pokémon, Hoenn with only Hoenn Pokémon etc.
I’ve also thought about doing the same thing but also only using moves that also debuted in that generation by the time I reach the elite four and/or using a team with STAB moves only

You can do the Mew glitch to get Mew twice, Nidoqueen, Scyther, Slowpoke, Dragonnite, Staryu, Magmar, Grimer, Growlithe, Arcanine, Dratini, Shellder, Missingno, and others.
Haven’t watched the video yet but I’ve recently started Pokémon Crystal Clear and so far with two badges my team is:
Houndour, Espeon, Skarmory, Chinchou and Heracross.
I’m very indecisive so I don’t know who to add as #6 and if I should swap any of my existing ‘mons. Hence why I’m here
When it comes to investment, diversification is key. That is why I have my interests set on key sectors based on performance and projected growth. They range from the EV sector, renewable energy, Tech and Health

Okay, stupid question, but what is the "Mew glitch"?
Here's the team I am building now for Crystal! You'll notice they're all Gen2 Pokémon. I could see myself using this team if I played when it had first released. Side notes: the friendship evolutions are painfully slow in this gen, and on Pokémon Crystal Tyrouge comes from the odd egg with the move Dizzy Punch which is pretty cool.

Crystal was my second Pokemon game I ever played and Gen 2 will always have a special place in my heart.
My team was very unconventional: Typhlosion, Lugia, Electrode, Gyarados, Dragonite, and Victreebel.

I would say Houndoom is past Magmar and on par with Arcanine due to stats and move types
You don't get Houndour until postgame, if my memory from HGSS comes into play with Crystal. It's stupid, it's crazy, but I'm not kidding.

In HGSS you can do Safari Zone but it is still hard and only after the... 5th gym?
@@seanwilliams823 Chuck's the 5th Gym Leader in order, yes.
Though I swear you can take on him, Jasmine, and Pryce in any order.
I couldn't figure out the lighthouse as a kid, but I strongly remember battling Pryce before Jasmine.
@@PikaBlue742 you are correct. 5, 6, and 7 can be any order but technically it is Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, even though Pryce's entire team is lower level than Jasmine.
