I had the original SL-5200 deck. This one is spade ahead. Matsushita put the kibosh on Beta much to the chagrin of those who hoped Sony would continue evolving consumer Beta machines. This one is truly a tour-de-force of both electrical and mechanical engineering.
Beta/Superbeta oder später (nur als Kamera im Profibereich) Digital Beta von Sony, waren die ultimativen Video und Audio Rekorder. Das Band blieb um die Kopftrommel während dem Vorspulen oder Rückspulen! Deshalb konnte man vorspulen, auf Play und Pause klicken und schon gab es ein Standbild ohne Dropouts! Bei VHS wird das Band ausgefädelt und zurück in die Kassette gebracht, wenn man vorspulen oder zurückspulen will.... Sony hat das Prinzip bei den eigenen VHS-Videorekordern (auch bei den Super VHS) wie bei Beta/Superbeta angewandt....

USE THE STOP BUTTON. IT'S NOT THERE FOR NOTHING. FIXING WIL COST YOU A LOT OF CASH CAUSE THE HEAD CHIP HAS TO BE REPLACED.
DO YOU EVER CLEAN THE VIDEO AND AUDIO HEADS. AND THE TAPE GLAIDERS. AND THE PLASTIC TAPE GLAIDERS ?.
