Weathering an Accurascale class 37 with weathering powders - possibly ruining it in the process 😆

I’ve had a go at weathering one of my Accurascale class 37s with weathering powders, this one I wanted to do quite grotty, so I knew powders would be good for this as youve only got to look at weathering powders and your hands get mucky! Hope you enjoy eve if not your cup of tea 😃👍

Thanks to the commenters and folk that share these on, they’re intended as light hearted entertainment, some are absolute crackers some a bit more serious. I love the model railways, I love filming them going about their business and I love chatting about them. No one in my house is interested in listening to me chat about them, hence I chat to you guys. Feel free to ask any questions.
The intention of this channel is to come at a different angle from the usual and do my own thing which may or may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
It gets me some peace up here in the loft though so I’ll keep it going. I only have a small fleet as they’re all the new sound fitted models and it’s a new hobby so don’t expect a different loco in each video. Hope you like this one, cheers! Dave

Hey cheers Michael, glad to see you’re still watching 👍 I just think if I make it look shocking bad, I could sell it on the bay and buy another 😆 so far I’ve been happy enough with what I’ve done - with the airbrush too you can do the paint so thin the layers build up nice and steadily 👍👍
I normally spray a model with Vallejo clear before attempting weathering.
That way I can rip it all off with some alcohol when I stuff it up.

Re the clear coat, that was half the idea with this if all goes bad strip it all off with thinners 👍
Thats great. Weathering powders are fantastic .If a mistake is made ,they are easily corrected.Matt varnish is needed to give the surface teeth for the powders to adhere to. Ladies eye shadow can be used as well .The non metallic ones being the best. Dont tell your Mrs though as I still want to live

As for the snip; been there and done it, albeit years ago now after the third child. It does get better mate and, if you're like me at least, you will be pleased that you did it.
When I’m all healed I’ll be good, hopefully it doesn’t take too long!

Top job, I just can’t get on with airbrush, so black wash and weathering powders all the way for me. Everything on a railway looks better weathered. They were only ever clean coming out of the paint shop! I call weathering powders ‘make up for trains’ 😁👍

Great work Dave…… the shots taken outside looked real. Grotty ….. yes . Over grotty…..no. A bit of panel wash on front detailing may still make it better from other videos I’ve seen. Awesome job. Hope your nads get better soon

Hi Dave, I am with you 100% about getting the wife involved. I first started on youtube 12 years ago. It wasn’t until my daughter told me to focus on one topic.
Since then I have busted myself doing how to’s, long format, live and shorts in an effort to grow to grow the channel. While doing this I make an effort to communicate with anyone who comments and I am quite happy to comment positively on any enthusiasts channel who make an effort to post their channel.
I am not a sexist but I wonder if my channel would grow if I had my wife do the intros but not sure if she might think I am trying to take advantage when she doesn’t know steam from diesel

Another brilliant video Dave. Thanks for the entertainment. Your comments about Dawn cracked me up. You are going to have to do a brief cameo with your missus just to prove a point. I did see that Dawn got angry with someone for suggesting that she went braless to increase her numbers.
Your idea of the matt spray to begin with was inspired. I must give it a go but probably starting with my 10€ coaches.

I was going to buy some cheap locos to practice on but even old none working were going for 40-50 on the bay so I’m too tight for that, and I missed the local show to try and drop on some bargain bin broken stuff hence why cracked on with the premium models (like a madman!)

Good job. You’re braver than me. Wear “ speedos “ or as tight a jocks that you have. Relax and remember to keep your feet up as in lying on a couch. You’ll observe some “ great weathering” using purples, blues and yellows! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Dave forty odd yrs ago we travelled from Mansfield to Nottingham by bus for the snip, Travelling back by bus was interesting you know what I mean don't you! Take care easy doe's it, The weathering looks great I usually get Tmc to sort mine but might have a go now, Tmc have the Tinsley model on sale weathered and sound fitted.

That’s a proper good bit of weathering that young man. Nice attention to detail and authentic too (using the photos of real trains) Well impressed. Hope the bolly’s are mended soon! PS…….nice buffers, I am now medicated.

I often use pastel powders on some of my car sketches and they are great for our models
I used some pastels on the upper track loop a few weeks ago, agree they’re decent 👍

Wow! What a great weathering result on an expensive piece of kit including the hello stuff on the roof: at first I thought you had lost the plot with that, but it really adds to the result. Took me ages to write this without using words like blank, shot, or even space hopper so as not to offend 😳 as I am catching up, it looks like you have made it to LJ and glad you are fighting fit to give ladderman a race up those steps!

As you know I'm not adverse to a bit o' weathering. Am a tad weathered myself you know.. However I have to say, you Better fire your wash bay workers . Dis a disgrace letting them hard working under appreciated 37's go around covered in muck. I know there's brass in it.. but still.. over a months worth!! Well weathered there dave. You skills are improving my young padawan!!

I think u can have the odd prestine engine but always feel it should be on a royal train or a test train lol I spotted during the 80s and dont remember too many looking that good and i like that companies are now giving weathered options to buy new but feel they need to do 3 levels of weathering as well. I have always thought that hornby, bachman etc should offer just body shells in various weathered states to help people with costs . You did a great job btw , i might have a go at doing an old loco myself
I agree I like the fact that Bachmann sell the body shells but I’m not sure what fits what but certainly a good idea 👍 I do enjoy the weathering jobs even though I’m nervous whilst doing it 🤣🤣
