I was having some difficulty using the chord engine. I feel like i don't know it enough, but I think doing something like this will really help understand how it works and where it shines best. Thanks for giving me inspiration :D
Gave me theWeeknd vibe. Hope you take it as praise! (which it is) Would love to see more challenges from you, cause each video is very inspirational in terms of exploring the depth of M:C (or gear in general). Thanks :3
great sequence! all six tracks are the chord machine? are the melody and bass lines chords that are broken up into separate notes, or you’re just playing single notes in the chromatic sequencer? are you able to break up chords into notes, or “strum” them, or are they always played in one shot?
The chords are always one-shot. There is a parameter to adjust the shape from a large number of chord shapes. Each element is a separate sound made with the chord machine. The chord machine can also be a unison sound that detunes all four oscillators; that's what I used for the non-chord sounds.
1. Stereo outs into Zoom R16 in audio interface mode, and recorded using Reaper. It's pretty transparent so it doesn't really matter too much. 2. 130 (hint: you can search "bpm counter" and find tap tempo websites so you can figure it out :) )
The track playing the main chords uses a few shapes (minor, major, sus4 and then minor again) parameter locked. There's also a higher, more staccato chord that is just the minor shape. The rest of the tracks use the 3 and 4-voice unison modes.
@@0Fdigital thought so but thanks for the confirmation. did they add that option with a firmware update? i thought initially it wasn't possible. might have to invest in a Cycles, thanks for the reply and such a dope track!
@@solongyouth it's been possible since the beginning (check the date of this video!), and is one of the main selling points of the M:C imo. Not only can each track be any machine, they can also switch machines mid-pattern using machine locks :D
Nope, it's the final model, just with a different cap (which I have since replaced with a blue one) and no print on the back panel (where the sockets are).
Good for you! The Electribe 2 is quite full-featured but ultimately I found that it lacks character. I like the synthetic sound of the M:C; it's a unique sound that I haven't been able to replicate on any of my other gear, apart from Nanoloop 2 on GBA.
Vague Robots I swear I heard arp in the teaser videos. Is there any arp on the machine? I’m trying to build a foundation for demanding(yes, demand) retrig on the Digitone. If this thing has arp and retrig, then it stands to reason that so should the Digitone. Glad you’re enjoying the MC Cycles
@@0Fdigital Not at all. As you are obviously aware FM can sound like 'cheap plastic' (among other things) quite easily, as evidenced by the audio in many games and anime soundtracks of bygone eras, though i believe it has far more versatility and breadth than that. i personally found this particular video rather 'one dimensional' in it's presentation of the audio abilities of the Model Cycles and do feel that UA-cam has many more videos that demonstrate the audio capabilities of this machine in a superior manner.
Listened to several Cycles jams just now and yours was the best. Cool tune.
So good. Just goes to show how limitation can inspire creativity.
This is a great jam! A little idm and a little funk. I really love it!
A lot of 2-step

that's a proper track right there, love it
Loving these 'machine only' demos :)
Best Demos of the M:C
I think many people underestimate that the first 4 unison presets make a pretty interesting synth sound on their own.

I see people out right disown this from product from the Elektron lineup but I think it’s one of the better entries!
Nice one with the nanoloop cartridges! Sounds so similar
so nice!
thank you! I love your work!
Very nice
great sequence!

This is fire!
Super cool vibe
Good stuff mate ,I have cycles paired with samples great combo 👍
Power!!
i want those nanoloop!
Thanks for posting this. I can't wait to get it as well. I have two questions:
1. What are you using to record the track?
2. What bpm are you at?
1. Stereo outs into Zoom R16 in audio interface mode, and recorded using Reaper. It's pretty transparent so it doesn't really matter too much.
2. 130 (hint: you can search "bpm counter" and find tap tempo websites so you can figure it out :) )
nice jam!
That thing pumps.
Impressive.
really cool! which chord mode did you go with, and which variations did you play?
The track playing the main chords uses a few shapes (minor, major, sus4 and then minor again) parameter locked. There's also a higher, more staccato chord that is just the minor shape.
The rest of the tracks use the 3 and 4-voice unison modes.
@@0Fdigital So you can use the chord machine on multiple tracks simultaneously? As in, you could use the chord on all six tracks?
@@solongyouth that's exactly what I did in this video :)

Beside the orange knob, Is there any other difference between the pre-production model and the final release?
Nope, it's the final model, just with a different cap (which I have since replaced with a blue one) and no print on the back panel (where the sockets are).
Have you put the orange knob from samples?😊😊🙋
See description. I have a pre-production model.
Can model cycles run several tracks in chords mode?
That's exactly what it's doing in this video. All six tracks are the chord machine.
ist there a way to swap the software like on the korg electribes ?
Each of the 6 tracks can use any of the 6 machines / algorithms, but there's no software swapping
I don't think so. You can certainly try once the first OS update comes out, but I'm pretty sure they've protected against that.
Good track but i choose the Electribe 2 over this one.. Why does it sound so plastic at every video i see.
Good for you! The Electribe 2 is quite full-featured but ultimately I found that it lacks character.

Does retrig on the chord machine automatically arp it?
No, but that's a great idea! Time to make a feature request 🤘

@@RP-mp4ow There's no arp, so anything you heard was manually programmed. Again, a great feature request, but not sure if they'll implement it!
Vague Robots damn! I want retrig on the DN though 😃
why does there need to be "decorations" around the gear.....[eye roll]
Because it's fun. Remember fun?
I had all that shit on my desk already, I figured I might as well move it closer to the machine for the video.
@@0Fdigital ya that was in the day when people made music and didnt rush to make demos.
I didn't rush to make this demo 💁♂️
still salty about the broken button on your peak? :P
eye rolling over things one does not understand.... yeah
@@0Fdigital dont feed the troll. great demo
Finally a demo that actually convinces me of buying a Cycles. It is too easy to make fm sound like cheap plastic
Just add reverb!
This demo does sound like cheap plastic. There are far better videos of this device to be found on UA-cam.
Scott Armstrong awesome bro ‼️
@@scottarmstrong8585 you say that as though cheap plastic is an aesthetic I was trying to avoid
