    if you have the polearm master and sentinel feats, relentless avenger becomes absolutely broken when using a reach weapon and fighting a single melee enemy. as long as there is enough space for you to run away, they don't have more range than you, and you hit your opportunity attack, they can't touch you

    Thank you for breaking this oath down. I've taken oath of vengeance and have come across a bard that can only be detected through true sight. He's been a pest and is only there to "stir things up" I'm hoping that I can stop him before he gets too wild

    I feel like this is the strongest paly subclass for combat. The vow of enmity and the spell options (especially haste) just gives them so much more oomph than any other paladins. The low level abilities are so front loaded that it doesn't even matter that the plateau, it just means they are even stronger comparatively at lower levels. And they are great to RP. Ancients is a great defensive choice, and Devotion is a good class and good homage to the original paladin. Frankly, most of the paladin choices are pretty good.

    A 3 level dip into Cavalier fighter will allow you to be able to constantly give the enemy disadvantage if they want to attack anyone other than you.

    You pretty much have all the goodies of vengeance paladin once you get to level 6. Do MC to those sweet CHA based spell casters and be the destroyer of anything you see.

    This would be the easiest subclass for me to roleplay I think. Vengeance is something I can really get behind, though redemption is probably my favourite story arc.

    I’m playing one right now and I’m just amazed by the versatility of it especially at later levels I was slow and tanky at first without much utility but after 10th level when I got haste (which is an amazing spell to have even without the mobility factor.) with misty step I was one of the most mobile people in my party then in another few levels I’ll be straight up the most mobile with dimension door. I have a celestial mount a good to hit, can easily get advantage, can bane enemies then with some carefully picked spells I have something for loads of situations the rest of the party don’t have answers for

    • @jebbryant6522
      @jebbryant6522 3 роки тому

      sum body yeah it’ll take a bit to feel strong I had the same issue at first you sit there throwing javelins or swinging your weapon outputting low damage but soon you’ll get your extra attack, hopefully some better weapons, more smites and a good bit of utility. You’ll get a better damage output while you upgrade equipment, at fifth level you get both hold person and misty step then at 9th things will really pick up for you with haste

  • @WillTBear1
    @WillTBear1 4 роки тому +1

    Those level 15 reaction attacks are also made WITH ADVANTAGE. That's a possibility for some massive damage on a target. 3 extra chances for a crit per turn and/or 3 smites means you will destroy people/dragons/liches/goblins/etc.
    I'm currently playing a Scourge Aasimar Vengeance Paladin in one of my friend's campaigns and I thought it was a neat concept that when I get to Lvl 20 I will essentially have all the abilities of all Aasimar but better.
    Vengeance angel gives 60 ft instead of 30 on a protector aasimar.
    The fear radius on your angel extends 30 feet and any creature feared this way gives advantage to others.

    Man I remember when I played this oath and its my all time favorite.I played a lot of characters but my favorites always been paladin nox I made him this fanatical man of righteousness.like flagellation and and beat you with your own jaw for being a cultists kind of fanatical. I amped up intimidation and made him this psychotic hyper offense damage dealer which is way different from my druid.he would scream his gods name and just be this brutal unwavering do all for the greater good and enjoyment kinda fella which I could never do with any other oat.Still to this day one of the sickest melee moves I've done was a barbarian orc threw a round table and I used the misty step to pop onto of the table just as it got behind the flying cambion to nat a 20 and decapitate it then plunging down onto the possessed werebear pinning it down so it could be finished with magic

    Little did they know
    The 15 ability also works with the level 7 ability.
    So not only can you spend a reaction to do damage, you can then use half your movement speed to move around your opponent.
    Add this with haste and you're just toying with your enemy at level 15

    I just wish I actually had the experience, because I was a dingus and did not know the oath spells were always prepared
    those Revanents chunked me hard

    So...I'm playing a vengeance paladin witH polearm master and mobile feats... combined with relentless avenger. You can make opportunity attacks when an enemy exits OR enters your 10ft reach and on a successful hit move another 20ft with that opportunity. With the polearm feat you also have the option to bonus attack after you take the attack action. At lvl 7 combined with mobile you can use your two attacks on your action and your bonus action attack to disengage from up to three monsters a round basically for free and on a successful opportunity attack a FOURTH. You can basically kit forever. Combined with spells like flaming sphere from a Rakdos cultists background and you can really have so much positional power/control over the battlefield.

  • @SirButterlegs

    Sentinel with Polearm Master plus Relentless Avenger is OP. And at lvl 8 you get Mounted Combatant feat. So you are an Opportunity Attack monster smiting everything moving half your speed on opportunity hits on a mount. You guys missed this with find steed as your mount.

    • @URGE
      @URGE  4 роки тому

      Unless you are variant human, you are giving up 2 ability score increases to take feats which is fine considering the sentinel/PAM combo is pretty well known (and lots of classes/subclasses can benefit from that combo not just this subclass so nothing That unique other than also being able to move half movement with it). Another thing to consider is that a mount isn’t always possible, especially in close quarters like scenarios. Also rules as written (RAW) relentless avenger says you may move up to half of YOUR movement speed. Mounts have their own movement speed so you wouldn’t get the mounts movement (unless your DM rules otherwise of course). Don’t forget as well that opportunity attacks take your reaction, so only 1 per round. All that being said, we have been looking at possibly redoing/updating some of our older videos to better explain/update our scores. Anyways, thanks for watching!

    hi! i want to play as a drow paladin, making him with the oath of vengeance would be good? Im not an experienced player

    • @URGE
      @URGE  4 роки тому +2

      Thematically it is great. One issue drow have is disadvantage on attack rolls while in sunlight, which could be very difficult to play with. Some DMs also don’t like players playing as drow, so I’d check with whoever the DM is to see the campaign setting and if a drow would make sense for your game. Thanks for watching!

    I like how you broke down the subclass, I feel however that you didnt give it the credit it's due for roleplay. You're only judging it based on its given abilities, not your Sworn Enemy. That's where all the rp is, it does depend on your setting and whether you come across your sworn enemy. But the abilities it gives you aren't meant to be the roleplay aspect of this subclass.

    • @URGE
      @URGE  5 років тому +3

      Daniel Berry Baker sworn Enemy is definitely good RP, but the way we score each subclass is based on the abilities provided. Each individual player has their own RP style and experience, so the actual RP is dependent on the player of course. Our scoring is again looking at how the features and abilities impact that particular area. These could be scored in all different ways depending on how you look at them, but we chose this method :) thanks for watching!

      @@URGE alright thank you for your clarification

    • @garyco766
      @garyco766 4 роки тому

      @@URGE You might consider renaming this category "utility" or "non-combat" since it really doesn't revolve around RP per se. I personally appreciate that you leave RP to the player and evaluate the classes on just the mechanics, kudos for that. But renaming this something other than RP would be less confusing then.

  • @earthlingofearth
    @earthlingofearth 4 роки тому +2

    What happened to RP? It seems to me that it depends on the player to make it or break it. To say the class hasn't got any good spells for role playing makes me wonder if you meant roll playing. It's your actions and interactions that constitute role playing, not your abilities. When did anyone ever say, "Woah, you hit it with your sword! That's some awesome role play!"? Also the nature of the oath of vengeance suggests that not all paladins must be lawful or good. Some examples of vengeance paladins might be Batman, Kenny's Mysterion, and Ghost Rider. On the whole though, I like what I have seen of your content. Thumbs up.

  • @InfernoWarden
    @InfernoWarden 4 роки тому +7

    My vengeance Paladin has a Chaotic Neutral alignment. But the only reason my DM allowed it is because the god he follows has the same alignment.
    I don’t really agree with the whole “a paladin MUST BE LAWFUL GOOD” idea. If a Paladin is following a chaotic evil god, then they should be chaotic evil. The swear an oath and will break it if they don’t follow it. So yeah.
    Big recommendation for anyone wanting to play any type of Paladin: if it’s your first time playing one, PLAY AS A VARIANT HUMAN.
    Here’s my reasoning: as a feat, choose “magic initiate: sorcerer OR bard” that way you get ranged spell cantrips like ray of frost right from level one so you don’t have to struggle with ranged abilities.

    It needs to be condensed to 10 lvls. The thing I hate about 5E is , everything is watered down and has a ridiculously low cap... these are HEROS. Not your average folk. And not all heros are equal. That's why you dont have 20 level 50 fighter or arcane monks ect runnning around . It's a miracle that most in game adventurers makes it to lvl 10. You could be in the military with a 30 yr career and only be lvl7. Sorry for ranting..

    • @Exisist5151
      @Exisist5151 4 роки тому +1

      Joe Fixxit The problem is that most DM’s don’t like running the game beyond level 10 (or even 5) because of how hard it is to prepare for how little you get out of it. PC’s at those higher levels can very easily overcome most things that you throw at them with ease and it takes a lot of time to plan things as a dm. For example: once players get teleport or teleportation magic the campaign becomes extremely dependent on improvisation, because they can teleport pretty much anywhere they want on the map of the world and it is not feasible as a dm to prepare that many npcs, locations, or plot lines necessary to have a campaign.

  • @FlavoredLewb

    I dont like how you only see RP in mechanics
    The idea of this paladin makes way for HUGE RP. This point system is kind of narrow minded.

    • @URGE
      @URGE  3 роки тому +1

      The reason we do it by mechanics is because every player is different. Everyone has varying skills of RP, so the only way to rate is based on static values such as the abilities. We look at the abilities to try to see if there is additional potential and opportunities given that otherwise wouldn’t be available. A great RP focused player can really dig into any class/subclass/background etc. to make it interesting and we can’t rate you or anyone else as a player! Hope that makes sense and we completely understand if you don’t agree with how we rate RP (perhaps maybe you can still appreciate the combat and synergy side though) thanks for watching!
