As Northernlion, I produce a variety of gaming content for UA-cam every single day. Be sure to tune in if you're interested in reviews, previews, first impressions videos, gameplay, walkthroughs, and playthroughs of new releases, my favorite classic games, as well as my favorites from the world of indie gaming. Thanks for watching (and reading this description!) and I hope I'll see you again.
"It gives a little armor"
It gives 18! You only have 27. That's a 66% increase in armor. That is in no way a little...
The video description made me happy.
If you go back to the left than you can upgrade more
Here's a few little tips and facts that may help you, NL. Mimic portraits have a darker, thicker outline than the normal ones. Chicken heals you for 10% of your total hp. Most of those armor you swapped your blood armor for did not give you extra health, but blood armor takes away 30 per piece. Hope these help you out and I'm loving the series.
The northernlion metric system:
A tonne = 10% of total
Just a little bit: over 50% of total
this is a huge tip for you NL. While in the Maya, check your map when in a room. Treasure will show up on the map, but mimics won't. That is how you can tell if the treasure you're about to jump on top of won't bite you in the ass.
I'm really enjoying this Let's Play series - I watched 1-3 on Tuesday night and then 4 as soon as I got up on Wednesday and downloaded 5-6 to watch on the train. If anything I was disappointed that it hadn't continued, but I didn't realise this was so recent. I'm glad to see more stuff up. I don't normally watch this sort of thing but I'm really enjoying it and planning to grab the game as soon as I can.
fun fact of the day:
while the paladin can shield away proectiles, the barbarian has a bit of a leg up in this department
the shout from the barbarian not only pushes enemies away, itll also clear the area of any and all projectiles
next time you are in a pinch as the barbarian, the shout will get you out of most dangerous positions
The fact that you have such a large vocabulary makes this series (and all of your videos) so much more enjoyable!
PS. Not saying it isn't enjoyable otherwise, it just adds to the entertainment.
Two things : 1) As a paladin, you can hold down then press the shield to become a statue (costs mana per sec though)
2) New game plus +2. Thats a challenge! (I can't wait to see NL try this)
NL: Thats the problem with playing the miner, you get less gold from monsters and chests.
Miners get 30% more.
A NL Story
17:47 "This is the downside of the miner, that we're gonna get less gold from every kill."
I don't even know what to say. You're playing as your favorite class, you think you're a different class, you commented on losing some of your money to the architect, then you said you're getting less money because of a class you're not even playing the does literally the opposite of give you less money. You've got some kind of "anti-learning" power, retaining the opposite knowledge of what you learned.
NL, where you play as the Miner, press the tab button when you enter the castle to view the locations of all the fairy chest and gold chest to farm for gold!
Ya know... I purchased this game because of this lets play, but about 15 minutes in I realized I enjoyed watching you play it more than playing myself, so lets get more of these lets plays!
I agree with your thing about learning how to play the game as you go along. I genuinely enjoy watching people do that and the degree that people DON'T let you do that is kinda one of the issues I have with the comments on your CK2 videos.
NL, when you were equipping those bracers, taking off the blood bracers gave you 30 health back. The bracers you bought only gave you armor which is still the second most useful defense stat but just so you know that not all that stuff gave you tons of health.
NL, there is always going to be a teleporter room inbetween the castle and the maya (and the other areas) in the teleporter room the left statue gives health and the right statue gives mana.
"That will be handy for going through the chest" - I love those Isaac slips that appear in non-Isaac videos. It's charming and is proof Isaac is firmly entrenched as a part of your psyche.
im not sure if you happened to notice it so fast but if you decide you can't buy any gear or item you can move to the left and it will take you back to the castle upgrades. Like it up so he can see this.
if you hit tab when you first enter a room you can see if theres a chest at the end, if theres a chest icon then its worth going in, if you see a chest without an icon on your map then you know its a mimic.
When will he upgrade charon?
northernlion.
16:19
This room has a chest on the top.
Use the map (not the minimap), you can see where there are chests (in the rooms where you have already been which is handy for room like that or just large rooms to see if they are worthwile to do) and you can easily see where to go next.
You can also see if a room is a dead end or not.
Little life steal
- The Northernlion Story
Now in every Cinema of your choice.
NL, thank you for uploading these back on schedule (earlier in the day)... These are my lunch entertainment at work ;)
The teleporters are the marker rooms to the entrance to the different areas.
If you find a teleporter (excluding red ones) it means you are either at a boss door or directly adjacent to the next area.
A good strategy for farming gold is to start out with a miner and look at the map. You will notice that every chest and purple ? room is marked on the map. If you lock it down and you get lucky enough to get a stronger class with the eidetic memory trait, you can prepare yourself to get a ton of gold :) Otherwise you can just pick out what to go for beforehand.
listening to northernlion to start off my day lol. these videos crack me up
It raises his total level, which raises the cost of other perks that he wants much more.
"That's the downside of playing as the miner, because obviously we're going to get less gold per kill." -Northernlion 2013
Actually, that causes EVERYTHING to go up in price unless it's equipment or runes. So, if it's an upgrade you won't necessarily use immediately, it makes getting the important upgrades easier.
Lich in old mythology is an undead being that drains the life from the living in order to sustain itself. I think he's probably right that it's lich.
He didn't say he likes being ignorant(although I'm pretty sure he does), he said he wants to learn things on his own. I understand the desire to learn stuff on your own, but it's really hard to learn anything when you absolutely refuse to take 2 seconds to read the text on screen that explains what something does. A lot of the time it seems like he's not even trying to learn anything, he's just rushing through as fast as he can. I like NL, he's a cool guy, he can just be frustratingly dense.
NL, up is alway maya, down is Always darkness, right is Always forrest. And when you encounter a teleporter with a bunch of statues it means there is a new area in one of the directions.
I think the best way to get gold may be to upgrade the Miner to the Spelunker & equipt as many Bounty Runes as possible with max Gold Up & max Haggle. It night also be prudent to have Dwarfism, too. No need to lock down the castle, either.
That "Loss of magic" he described with TBOI is so true T_T happened to me with minecraft.
Northernlion.
get a rune for every piece of equipment.
I reccomend 3 jump runes in total because they help an incredible amount with avoiding damage.
There are also 5 gold worth upgrades on the right techtree in the manor.
Before every area there is a teleporter room and every teleporter room has 2 statues which always contain a turkey leg and a mana potion.
So save those for when you need them.
There are sometimes 2 ways to a new area and only one of those will be a tp room then.
Here's a good tip for you. Don't use the architect if you aren't doing boss runs. Its easy to progress through the castle and if you are just exploring its not worth the lessened amount of gold. Also, if you are confident in your ability to kill the boss try finding it without using the architect because you get substantially less gold from killing it. One last thing, chests do not respawn if you use the architect. Good luck.
NL, The Vampire gear lowers your HP to give you vampirism. The 30 hp you would be getting back is the HP that the vampire gear took away.
Little tip: there is always a teleporter one room before a new area. Keep that in mind!
The very first time you talk to him he says he's going to TAKE 70% of your gold. Every time after that he say's "you will only get 70%." His first dialogue tells you the exact opposite of what he does.
Protip northernlion.
If you are in a hard area and have multiple ways to go, then just go in all of them and immediately go back.
Then you can look at the map and see which ones have chests and which ones don't.
NL, mimicks and doomtraits can be easily recognized, because they twitch from time to time.
09:00 I'm not sure why he hasn't already realized that the teleport rooms are always adjacent to an entrance of another part of the castle.
I love how he was saying Hokage, but when everyone told him he was pronouncing it correctly he switched to Hokagi.
The miniboss rooms with the super enemies marked by a ? tend to drop third row items that scale. Blood, Sage, Retaliation, Holy, and Dark. Based on level.
I wouldnt say it was better, its just refreshing to have a new entertaining different series :D
Ah I think that in this game the barbarian is the tank and Paladin is more DPS, paladin has around 250 HP and the Barbarian has 100 more.
Paladin is all-round, Knave is high crit, Barbarian is Tank, Hokage is DPS and Miner is gold, Archmage is high MP and dependent on the usefulness of the spell.
NL hit back on the controller to view the map, helps a lot with planning where you want to go
Good guy Northernlion finally uploads this...been waiting whole day for this :D
You'd think the large MANOR sign with big
Because everything gets more and more expensive as you buy things. Buying stat upgrades is generally not worth it until you have unlocked everything that's only 1 level(classes and such). Upgrading equipment is usually more worth it in the beginning.
Also when you equipped the new sword. It didn't give you extra health, the blood sword took away health. So by equipping that you got the health you lost.
Ponce de Leon doesn't have multiple forms, he just does a shit ton of damage and is hard as balls to dodge. You are going to need a barbarian to take him out in all likelihood.
I beat the Slime with a Spellsword, but I had blade wall. Because of the mechanics behind it, it can't do much besides jump into the blade wall that you stick in front of it.
can we uplike this so NL will finally learn he can actually go BACK TO THE MANOR after he leaves the screen the first time, so if he doesnt want gear/runes he can go back and still get upgrades.
i would STRONGLY recommend you to upgrade the miner (you'll know the hidden passive effect that upgrade has) and to buy the gold gain ratio upgrade every single time you can because it just creates a TON more gold in ALL your future runs.
you can go to the top of those rooms where the fire bolts down from the sky, riches are to be found!
To get to the character on the far left you need to go move left on the architect icon
get more new things in the manor to unlock more of the tech tree, and start putting money into armor. It gives really heavy damage reduction, which stacks super good with your lifesteal.
You really should get the air dash(like in MMX) it helps tremendously in dealing with those titan guard as well as getting fairy chests
Upgrade "gold gain up." Helps a lot when farming for gold.
I hope you know, when you leave the castle building screen thing, you can still go back if you have left over gold. Just go out the left of the screen. :P
I think you have to tailor gear to your characters ability, for example if you want to take on a boss take a high damage character with high damage gear, if you want to get loads of gold take gold increasing gear with a gold increasing character
When you upload rogue legacy, it's the highlight of my day
I don't think that half of these items give him increased health, it's the fact that the blood gear takes health away so when he puts new armor on it increases his health anyways.
"That which we call a rogue; by any other name would smell as sweet."
Oh that loading screen at 4:10...
Vertical Clearance: A Northern Lion Story.
Teleporters will be next to bosses or different areas the maya ect, red teleporters are in any random places
Ryan, you can always return back to the castle by walking left from the smith.
well this was good timing
love this series
Actually, purchasing unlocks in the castle raises the cost of all other unlocks by 10 gold, so they do go up.
I consider the Architect not good for farming gold, because chests don't reset, so there's less stashes of loot, recipes, and runes per run.
Also you should be able to figure out when portraits or chests are enemies, look closely and see if you can figure it out~
OK northernlion, I understand you don't like tips but you seem to not know that you have the perk that allows you to press the A key when playing an archmage to swap spells at will. It may make the mage class more appealing, but even if it doesn't it's useful to know.
NL, you can go back to the "Skill Tree" by going to the left before entering the castle, don't waste all that money every time..
There is a reason, actually. Everytime you buy anything in the shop, all the other upgrades get more expensive. So you must choose carefully which one you want.
"These rooms were build out of assholes" -The Northernlion Story
Not to mention unlock and upgrade the rest of the classes :P Spellthief/Spellsword is just soooo good.
NL listen, when you use the architect, you only get 70% of the gold you find, not 30%. And when you use the Miner you get more gold than usual, not less.
I just noticed, when you havve someone with the baldness trait the loading screen will say balding instead of building!
I have been waiting northern lion..... this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than binding of issac
Don't underestimate the guardian gear and the armor stat... it is VERY useful!
Northernlion
You weren't actually gaining health you were just getting back the health that the blood armor made you lose,
also there is always a teleporter the room before you go into new parts of the map e.g. the maya.
Buy the armor stat upgrade, get a ton of lifesteal, and just do full clear runs of each area.
its in your best interest to get all the rune because went you have all of them fay chest give stat bonus instead of rune
I LOVE YOU NORTHERLION you made my day
I so love this series!
Mimic's also don't show up on your minimap as chests
I'm glad you beat the boss without having to use the architect to lock the castle. It would suck to give that jerk 30% of all that boss money.
When you have gold to spend but left the manor, You can go back to the manor by walking left to spend gold (If you had to much left and didn't want to buy equipment.) You probably could of upgraded Mana or HP with that 600 you blew.
Doesn't seem that hard to find you on steam, we know :
-You own a lot of games.
-What games you've been playing lately.
-And that you have a friend in your list called Mr.TIGER without an image that has connected to steam recently.
This is kind of hilarious, I just finished watching episode 6, and then this gets posted
NL, darkened spots on the walls and ceilings lead to secret treasures chests.
I know the feeling. It's tough to find playmates on your level as it is; but then games like Roguelike-likes are practically a *break* from friends sometimes. The last thing you need is Steam IM's popping up over your feed!
Hey northernlion want a tip? Check the map before you touch a chest, if there is no icon, its a mimic. Also mimics shake a little bit
Prices go up depending on your level. Spending money on unneeded things makes useful things more expensive.
Bounty is only semi useful in the first round but in new game plus, chests give around 15 times more. Blood equipment is terrible, it has bad stats and reduces your health which makes meat worse (is a percent heal). If you want lifesteal then just use the runes. The strongest class for now would be a lich which you haven't unlocked, splunker starts terrible and only gets worse later.
If this is anything like Crusader Kings 2, he's gonna mention that he can do that in a video, do it for that video only, and then never remember it again.
I know this video is really old by now, but good lord, it physically hurts me to see him waste all that gold.
Thorsteinn Eiriksson You know a video is old when someone said it was old three years ago.
@@DrLongWang Same
Buying new stats obviously increases the cost of the next stat level for only that one stat. Buying new gear does not increase the cost of other gear. Runes are the only item your statement pertains to. All runes cost the same, and the price goes up for each on bought.
