- Ahoy legends, This week I hit the beach to go surfcasting with lures and get lucky when we find ourselves a big school of hungry fish! The morning starts off with an epic sunrise and a few small tailor but it isn't long before the madness starts! Hope you enjoy the episode!

Beautiful winter content big fella! So lucky to be here & enjoying all that the sea offers in lovely Qld - some good tailor there my fam still rates them to eat as long as they're fresh or smoked. Shirts are looking very smooth mate. The great thing about tailor is they seem plentiful (still) & healthy yewww! 🎣🤙✌

Yr beach sessions when you chase Tailor always my favourites and any time in general you go land based. Just to tell I got another 55cm Tailor back in June at South Broulee Beach just south of Batemans Bay, never gets old and those Tailor for mine hit like a gunshot in the surf. Don’t mind the Salmon either of course.
pretty point at malua bay and bingie point caught some huge ones fishing for kings with 160mm stickbait. they annoy the crap out of me but they were around 60 to 70 cm. bingie point one was huge probably 80cm .

Hey sammy I hoping not to be the only one who has no idea about smoking fish but if could do a smoking cook up in the future that would be great.

Hello Sir , can you tell me which rod you using catching tailor on the beach with bait . Example 5-9kg 7-12kg and 8-15kg . i have the Daiwa 24 Certate 5000-xh but i didn't which rod mix for my rod and good to catching tailor , Please let me know .Thank you for your time
Hi mate, I use a 11ft 6-10kg rod. There are plenty like it available at the moment. Anything with a cast weight of 20-90grams would be perfect 👌👌

Never forget my first tailor on Rockingham wharf got a treble in the thumb then the bugger bit me in the first finger. screamed like a girl and that was the end of fishing for the day. 3 stitches and a nice half moon scar.

Have you heard of many people targeting them with success on the beach at Bribie?!
I've tried a few times but can never find a gutter, the beach always seems flat and featureless, I think it's only the random lucky ones that are caught around there.
Same as rhyley. But when the tailor are on their way up around this time of year they can be around
Yeah I’ve never tried personally sorry mate. I have heard of people getting them at times though 🤷♂️
Sammy do you prefer braid or mono as your main line when spinning for tailor?
Braid is great but if it gets tangled, it’s a nightmare , to save issues with lines just use your normal fishing line that will work , have a more heavier leader as he mentioned in the video .

If I keep dropping fish I check my hooks for angle and sharpness. In fact I sharpen my hooks quite often
Haha yeah the hooks were sharp enough, just pesky tailor jumping and shaking the hooks out 🤷♂️
Yeah I'm 53 years old and I've been fishing since I was 5 or something and I know that 90% of the time that I lose a fish it's operator air either I dropped the tip of my rod I don't play it right knowing the incoming tides, or I just didn't show up in my hooks which I do pretty much every time after I have a bite nothing personal and I've never caught a tailor in my life, or a blue fish, but I know that the five different species of salmon, and the Sea going trout known as a steelhead where I live or all tricky just like you're saying so I make sure that every time I have a bite I resharping my hooks I adjust them make sure that I acclimate the points something to think about I've got a couple fish in my life

I just had some neoprene boots and some spearfishing wetsuit bottoms on. Keeps your a bit warmer than just a pair of boardies that’s for sure!

You guys should use barbless hooks, so the fish don't get hurt when you release them.
Did you see how many fish actually get off the hooks ???? They have a relatively soft mouth but are ravenous predators and I`m sure they will live to fight another day.
@@gavinswanson666 In California, many fishermen use barbless hooks so as to not damage the fish before release. You Aussies could learn a thing or two from the Yanks!

Great affordable Australian made gear
Switch to singles. They don't smash up their mouths, they release easier and stay on the hook better. Nice vids but that's why you're dropping so many.
It's also much nicer on the fish.
I’ve tried both ways to be honest mate and found the way I’m doing it now has worked better for me. Singles definitely better on the fish though 👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing try adding another split or try the busted fishing lures that run straight though to the hook with a hole through the lure not the lure like a barrel sinker to a hook old school style. They open their mouths and gills and shake and the metal anchors against the jaw and pops out.

I personally don’t like to hook up rate with singles. But yes, definitely better when you want to release fish 👍
