      @@pianobyaaron since my last comment i ve got the verses down 85% and im on the chorus now a little trickier bc the chords are less familiar! What im hoping is soon ill be able to look at whatever song on ultimate guitar and figure out all the comfy inversions and all that jazz. Thats how you do it right you just feel it out until you get it?

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  2 роки тому +1

      That’s terrific! Great job! Yes, when it comes to learning a new song from Ultimate Guitar you look through the chords and decide on the best way through the chords based on which inversions make it the most fluid. Another consideration is the quality of sound based on the voicing, sometimes an inversion will have a different quality that works better with the song. All this together informs the best way to play through the chords. I hope that helps. Thanks again for watching and God bless!

    This guy is a genius. Not only break down the chords and make it easy but also sharing the source where you can find chord for a song in a guitar chord website.
    Anyway, i have a question. How you figure out the chord C to be C in the 2nd interval form which is G-C-E instead of the normal C-E-G?
    Thank you. Very nice tutorial

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video.
      About chord inversions, you can arrange the chord in 3 different inversions. C-E-G which is root position, E-G-C which is first inversion and then G-C-E, as you mentioned, which is 2nd inversion. Notice that all three inversions use the same three notes (C, E, and G). The C Major chord is made of those 3 notes in any arrangement. The reason to use one inversion over another depends on what notes you are coming from or going to. Using only root chords will mean you need to move your hand a lot. Using inversions allows you to be more efficient in how much you need to move your hand. You can find a video on my channel on chord inversions that I made which may also help. I hope this brings some clarity. Please let me know if you’d like me to explain it another way. Thanks again and God bless!

    Hi guys I'm new to piano and was wondering how did he know when to play 2nd inversions of chords and when to play normal? Am I missing something or is it just experience? Thanks

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  3 роки тому +3

      Great question! The reason to use inversions is to make the transitions between the chords easier to play. I have a video on chord inversions on my channel if you’d like to check it out. You can think of it like this... if you are going from a C Major chord, which is C-E-G, to an E minor chord, which is E-G-B, you could move your whole hand from the C Major to the E minor to play them normal (the technical term is Root Position) OR you could use an inversion and just move one finger from the C note to the B note. The notes would look like this: C Major in Root position (C-E-G) to E minor in 2nd inversion (B-E-G). This works because the C Major chord has the E and the G in it which are also shared with the E minor chord. The only difference between the two chords is the one note. That’s why inversions are helpful. I hope that makes sense. Please let me know if you need more explanation. Thanks for watching and God bless!

      @Jay Bird Ok, cool! First, just know the Elvis recording is in the key of D so it is a little different than the key of C from my video. To truly get the sound of the Elvis version you would need to play it in D, but I’ll explain it in C so it matches my video which you’ve already been using.
      Start with a C in the bass with your left hand. In your right hand, play a C in first inversion (which is stacked like this from the left: E - G - C). Use this inversion to roll through the chord in the way taught in my video, bottom-middle-top-middle. Then, the second chord is a G chord. To play it like they do in the song, play a B note in the left hand and in your right hand play a G chord in second inversion (from the left: D - G - B) rolled through again, bottom, middle, top, middle. Finally go back to the C chord again and roll through, just like the first chord.
      The last 6 notes that you mentioned are what’s called an arpeggio. An arpeggio is when you play through a chord and then jump to another inversion and play through it. So for this, we just played the first inversion (E-G-C) in our right hand, when we finish that we are going to jump to the 2nd inversion C chord (G-C-E) but only roll down from the top (so it would be E-C-G with our pinky on the E), then jump up to C in root position (C-E-G) and roll from the top again with your pinky on G.
      I hope that makes sense. Again, the recording is in D so it won’t match up perfect but I can explain it in D if you’d like. Please let me know if you need more clarity. Thanks again!

      Ok, good! The only other element I was gonna add was that your hands should be close together when you start. Your left hand on the C and then your right hand on the E just above it. This will mean when you finish the arpeggios you are in position for the rest of the song as covered in the video. Thanks for watching and God bless!

    I just have a question why is the C major notes G-C-E in this video?but C-E-G when I looked it up on google? I'm confused.

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  3 роки тому

      @Isabel Sugabo Great question! The chord is the same because the notes are the same. Both are C-E-G. The difference is the order of the notes (for example G-C-E), which we call an inversion. To be more specific, C-E-G is called C Major in Root Position. While G-C-E is called C Major in 2nd inversion. But both would be considered C Major chords.

      @@pianobyaaron but will the sound change if I follow the C-E-G pattern?

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  3 роки тому

      It will sound different, but only slightly. It is an artistic choice. Inversions of chords are used for their sound and also for their convenience in moving from one chord to another. For example, in this song you go from C Major to E minor, or C-E-G to E-G-B. Notice that two of the notes are the same (E and G). If I play them in Root Position, the way I’ve just written them, then I need to lift up my whole hand and move it. However, if I play C-E-G (root position) and then B-E-G (2nd inversion) I only have to move one finger, from C to B. That is the benefit of using inversions. I hope that makes sense. Regarding sound, I find that a 2nd inversion C Major chord, built off the G below Middle C, has a deeper and richer sound which I prefer over C Major in root position built on Middle C.

    Hello, Why It's 'Em' 'Am' after C? Can you please explain?

    • @pianobyaaron
      @pianobyaaron  3 роки тому

      Hello Zina! The Em stands for E minor and the Am stands for A minor. They are the chords which follow the C major chord in the song. An E minor is spelled E-G-B. This song uses an inversion of the chord. An A minor is spelled A-C-E. An inversion is used in this song as well. I hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know and maybe you can clarify exactly what you mean. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Aaron, this is a great tutorial. If I may ask, at 5:40 isn’t that a B7 instead of a Bmaj7 ? Can you please clarify? Wouldn’t the major 7 of B , bflat or a sharp. Thank you in advance.

      Hi Charlie! Good to hear from you and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. And, yes, you are right. That is a B7 not a Bmaj7. I misspoke. Thanks for catching that. The Bmaj7 would have an A sharp, like you said. I should have said B dominant 7, or just B7. Thanks for watching and God bless!
