@@maureenlancaster1694 There is a lot more to the method than in this video. I believe most videos only show basic things like this to entice people to check out her book. If they posted everything, that wouldnt be quite fair. Im reading her books now, and what makes them so popular is that most of the work you do is on your mind, not your house.
I've been cutting the tops off of La Croix 12-pack boxes to use for storing small towels, and saving empty Kleenex boxes for drawer organizers. I may eventually replace them with fancier boxes, but really, it's a fantastic way to start organizing for free, just by using whatever you have around the house. A great way to recycle, too!
I have my clothes organized by the color spectrum like a rainbow. I start with black on the left and finish with white on the right. Black -ROYGBIV -White My closet looks great and it is easy to find what you want by color.
Same and I have mine organized by shirts then dresses then pants however I don't find it to look as clean with having to organize each section by color. How do you organize your different garments by color? Do you mix all your pants and all your tops but keep it color coded?
@@BimmerBabeI have 2 closet rods. All shirts on top, all pants on the bottom. Then each color is organized by warmer weather clothes to cooler weather. So if it is warm outside and I want a red shirt it will be with the red clothes but on the left side. Or if it is cold outside a red sweater would still be with the red clothes but on the right. Pants are the same way but I have alot less color options of pants.
@@BimmerBabe do you live in the USA? If so I found a cheap and easy closet system from Wal-Mart and it goes together without tools and helps you with organization. It is called Mainstays 2 tower 9 shelf closet organizer. It was $80 but worth every penny. For a large closet organizer it was fairly affordable.
I organize my hanging shirts by sleeve length because when I get dressed in the morning that’s the criteria by which I decide. If it’s hot I want sleeveless. If it’s cold I want long sleeves. And so on.
Nice tips. I think when you transfer food products into other containers it's important to somehow preserve the expiry date. I like to put that on a label.
That’s a good idea. I usually cut the information from the packaging and put in inside the container. But for rice and pasta I don’t have to do it because we eat it so often 😊
I need to have labels to minimize the guesswork of the item. I might mix up soap and lotion, shampoo and conditioner, oats and granola, etc. The other tips I'm good with and I follow. Been really into KonMari Method since Oct 2018! Yes, it is life changing!
Form follows function so I group clothing by occasion; office, party, tourist, peasant (comfy but damaged garments for painting, gardening, etc). For decluttering a large hoard, I find Kondo's method of collecting an entire category into a single pile logistically impractical. It assumes you have an open area available and can easily locate all your strays. I prefer room by room sifting and sorting with some empty totes and a trash can at hand. On the initial sort dispose the obvious garbage, weed what belongs elsewhere into totes, tidy and group what belongs, clean off surfaces, sweep floors, leave drawers and closets alone. At the end of the session take out the trash, move the totes into their proper rooms. Repeat for the entire house. On the next pass you have more open space to work in. Leave no stone unturned. Sort the closets, drawers, boxes, cabinets, etc. Discard what you clearly do not want and cannot donate. When in doubt it stays. Don't engage your emotions. Postpone the trips down memory lane until you are done for the day. On the next pass you have enough open space to do Marie Kondo if you wish. At this point, you've done a recent tour of all your possessions and know where things are located. Decide what you will keep. Place the donates into a tote. Discard everything else. Don't agonize and loose your stride. Place undecided items into a separate tote. You may have items that need repair or mending before you can decide. After you've done the entire home, revisit those undecided items. The decisions will be easier and clearer the second time around. Deep clean during if it will keep you motivated and refresh your spirit. If not, postpone until the house is sorted out.
A big tip when decluttering & discarding is (if available & accessible) is to terracycle your items before putting it in the garbage! Not only are you tidying up your life but you are helping out the planet as well!
I agree with you. But in Germany we recycle everything what's possible and I take it as a matter of course. E.g. when my hubby eats a yoghurt, he takes up the metal cover (it goes to the metal recycling bin), he separates a paper label from the plastic cup and put a paper into the paper recycling container and the plastic cup in the plastic container. We separate here glass garbage per colors (white, green, brown), and many other things too. I even bring expired medicine to the pharmacy to get it recycled in the right way. May be next time I need to emphasize it and not just think everybody knows what I am doing with my clutter.
Dividers and boxes wisely used are amazing! A no label storage strategy means that you need to have a very clear idea of what you use and does not allow you to buy futile extras, Grannies were used to do like that
I never thought about that, but after seeing the video, I see how the labels create clutter. The bottles do look nice without them. And I also will get a container to put my pasta in :) 1 container = 3 pasta boxes :)
For cleaning products it may be dangerous to not show clearly what the contents are. Especially if you have children or old people. It could even be fatal.
a really good tip for organizing your closet! a lot of us have wardrobes that go all over the place in terms of different color, texture, and length. I find it the most visually pleasing to sort by garment type, sleeve/hem length, and then color/sometimes texture (I own a lot of black, but in different fabrics i.e cotton, velvet, lace, etc) in that order.. it's such a nice, comfortable way to store clothing. it's a good way to have drastically different cuts and colors of clothing hanging together while still looking intentional and gradual. going from a black tank top to a grey tank top, then a grey tank top to black t shirt, then to a white long sleeve is visually easier to follow than a black tank top to a black t shirt to a grey tank top to a white long sleeve. while it's not a solid gradient, it actually ends up functioning slightly easier because each color block is a different type of garment so you can see exactly what you have of that style.
These are very helpful! I’ve been using the same small Dawn Dishwashing liquid bottle for 8yrs 😂! I just wash and sanitize it before refilling. I also fold my frequently used clothes and store them in cloth cube bins. They are usually fabrics that don’t wrinkle. It’s SO much easier to do laundry because I have a folding roller cart that I put my cube bins on. As I fold clothes I just put them straight into the bins and put the bins back in the closet only making one trip. I also bring my daughters 10 slot shoe rack out to put her outfits in so she can dress herself quickly! That saves so much time during the school week. This video did give me some good ideas for pot storage in hard to reach places though!
Started in 2024 by investing five dollars for Marie Kondo's two books. After reading and writing my goals out for space in our home, I started to put it into motion. Bags of trash and donations flowed outside. Our family enjoys tidying more than ever!

Thank you for the beautiful video, ❤from Latvia
Most of my clothes are black or darker colors so it’s not very helpful to organize by color. I organize by type; if I’m looking for a button up I don’t want to look through multiple colors to find one. I want it with the other button ups, then I can choose the color from there.
I did something similar. I have a winter/summer capsule wardrobe that I change out every six months, so my heavy stuff is already stored away. But most of my clothes are either black or white, and I just separated all my garments by those colors. Then I organized them by how frequently I wear the shirts, least frequently to the right, most frequently to the left
Same here, I wear most black and always sort by type and shape: t-shirts, shirts and dresses by arm length, thick/thin socks and tights with(out) patterns. Special clothes have a special place: swimsuits, hats etc are in boxes. Jackets and belts always hang, the rest lays folded in drawers. I only possess soft fabrics that need no iron to look good. One drawer contains my used and aired clothes. Airing clothes and bedding keeps them much longer fresh. Any other ideas? :)
similar! I do type, then color in the ROYGBIV style. This does help me loads. Like all my cardigans are together, so when its time to grab a warmer laying piece, I know where to go. If I want lighter or darker clothes, its easily located.
New to your channel! Thanks for this, I love the Marie Kondo way. Now if I can get my husband on board, it would be fantastic-a girl can hope! Looking forward to watching your other videos! :-)
Maybe it is. In my experience, I find very pleasing to be in a room without any printed word around, even on labels and kitchen ingredients. For some reason, I find it very distracting and catch myself reading those things all the time. But that's my opinion, I don't even like clothes with any words printed on them.
@@educostanzo I said that because a relative of mine died because of a loss of a label on a bottle, so about this matter i am extremely prudent... but every person has its own sensibility about written words... personally words do not bother me...
I bought amber colored pump bottles for the bathroom that are aesthetically pleasing two years ago and it is by far my favorite thing that I have done to calm my mind. I just pour the products I buy into them. I use the same products over and over and if I switch up I take a photo of the label and store it on my phone. I also buy more organic products as well as organic baby products so I don't have to worry about reactions as much or my kids using them. As for cleaners, I also aim for natural and to hey usually have some pretty aesthetically pleasing minimal looking labels . I have taken the labels off and put just vinegar water or dawn dishsoap as well.
@@francescachecchin6191 that's very sad to know, really. My idea does not include taking off labels in potentially dangerous substances, in fact I usually mark them with a red tape (I only live with my SO and she is aware of the method). You can always store things with labels facing the wall as well.
Thats a good safefty reminder! Of course, everyone should use their own discretion. Naturally there are some products you use so frequently and with such an obvious form that you don't need labels (i.e. rice or if you buy the same soap every time) obviously for any chemical the label should stay on the bottle. Its also a good idea to put the date you got the food or other product to work out the experiation date if needed.
@@nikkistephens4990 how do you know what has crawled in them, so you make twice the work for yourself, plus if items are dried correctly there will be no damp air 😂🤣
@@kirstyhillary2389 urgh, if I had to wonder what could crawl inside my kitchen cabinets, I wouldn't stop cleaning until the last cockroach finally has gone 😅 really? My glasses and cups stand right side up, 'cause I don't have time to clean the cabinets every day and I don't want the side where I will place my MOUTH to stand in dust or dirt. I drink something every day, just like my love and my 3 kids do, so the cups and glasses don't spend enough time in their place to catch dust inside 😄👍🏻
@@EasyNaturalLiving I get what you are saying 😀 we use ours everyday, and like you I don't have time to clean cupboards everyday, but I do make time to ensure that dust would not have a chance to build inside a kitchen cupboard as I try my best to continue too keep hygiene to a high standard.
Most important rule: keep what sparks joy, donate the rest. Lifetime is precious and gains quality :) One drawer in my living room contains my most important items: keys, wallet with needed cards, all phones, navi, coins in a tea light holder, (sun) glasses, hair ties, extra cards, memory cards, power bank, led flashlight. No bowl with clutter in my sight :) I use white ikea cardboard boxes in different sizes for years now, they don't have to be transparent or labeled. It's all just a question of organisation. Same with spices, liquid soap and shampoo, I peel off whenever possible and use original containers to refill :)
I do a capsule wardrobe - so only have a few items of clothing and they can all hang in my closet - by type, by length, by color. No need for all the folding. If you have a large wardrobe, then I can see where this would help - but not necessary for me. (Also, if I can't see it when I open the closet, I forget I have it!). I just change it out seasonally, and store the out of season clothing in clear containers under the bed. The only things I keep in drawers are pajamas and bras/pants. I do fold my scarves like this and keep this in a clear container in my closet also.
Same here. I think most people are not aware of all their possessions. Except ultra minimalists like Fumio Sasaki who own less than 100 items ^^ his book was a great inspiration for me :)
Thank you for the feedback. Actually it was a tip of Marie Kondo which I commented, that I don’t recommend to remove the back sticker with all the important information 😊
Very nice job! I have to share the LOL dolls organization with my sister. My nieces are crazy over that trend. I just still don’t get the trend of folding down t-shirts and having them stand. For me personally, hanging everything that I can is more efficient, less time consuming, orderly, and means less wrinkles.
Thank you so much for sharing these tips best ideas by the Marie Kondo method. I loved the part where you say declutter first, because that is the biggest mistake I always make, so again this leads to same disorganised space. Thanks for this video Have a Great Day from Rizwana!
I have tons of those Ikea boxes, but never throught of putting stuff in them that way. Very helpful video :) Well done. I am in the middle of decluttering my clothes, got new tips, many thanks! PS. As a Polish girl currently living in Germany, I was both surpised and excited to see some labels of produces from both countries ^^ I like your accent, wherever from Europe you are
I am a hoarder, sorry. Over the years I put on weight but still kept some clothes that I liked but were too small for me. Then I lost some weight and now I can wear these clothes. If I had got rid of them I would have to buy all new which I couldn't afford to do. I do not intend to put the weight back on, so I do give away clothes that are too big for me now.
Hi, thank you for sharing your tips I enjoyed watching the video! I have a question about the #2 remove labels were possible. So regarding removing the labels from food supplies, than how do you keep track on the expiration date and if you want to check what is the cooking time?
I remove the front sticker only from some bottles like liquid soap or dish washing detergents. In this case I have all the infos at the back side of the bottle. But noone can see it and the bottle has a "tidy" look without any noise. As for food, I use plastic containers for storage. For such items like rice I don't need any information. I know how to make it and we eat it in a regular basis :) It doesnt't have a chance to get expired :) For pasta I cut the cooking time information from the package and put it inside. We also eat it often. But there is a trick how to add some information. Put a sticker on the bottom of the container and note the cooking time and expiration date :)
I have always liked removing labels and packaging and been criticized, so it is affirming to know I am not alone and that there is recognized esthetic value in the practice.

it's a good way to have drastically different cuts and colors of clothing hanging together while still looking intentional and gradual. going from a black tank top to a grey tank top, then a grey tank top to black t shirt, then to a white long sleeve is visually easier to follow than a black tank top to a black t shirt to a grey tank top to a white long sleeve.
while it's not a solid gradient, it actually ends up functioning slightly easier because each color block is a different type of garment so you can see exactly what you have of that style.

Whenever I see anything about Marie Kondo and her disciples it makes me smile. Who knew that being OCD would become such a popular fad. LOL
I don’t think that everybody who decluttered after reading a book has this decease 😊
@@OrgaNatic it's not “OCD”. You're not quirky.
Ein sehr schönes Video 😊
Dankeschön 😊
Awesome summary! I LOVE the Konmari method.
I am a big fan too :) She changed my life literally!
I always have cups or glasses etc upside down to ensure no dust or anything can get in them
But then you gave all that stale air in them. I store my glasses right side up, if there is any dust, I just rise them.
Love the captions generating an entirely different word every time you say KonMari or Marie Kondo.
I’ve also noticed that 😊 working intensively on my pronunciation 😀
OrgaNatic Your pronunciation is perfect, I didn’t mean it to be a criticism of you at all! The generated captions are always a little off
Thank you 😊❤️
They’re all brilliant but #4… I would have never thought of.
❤️❤️❤️
Haaa I was doing all this tricks excepting the folding since forever without reading her book or knowing about her, nice feeling
I started using deep baking dishes as storage since they are seldom used at least they do double duty!!
What a nice idea! Thank you for sharing :)
Most important rule: keep what sparks joy, donate the rest. Lifetime is precious and gains quality :)
One drawer in my living room contains my most important items: keys, wallet with needed cards, all phones, navi, coins in a tea light holder, (sun) glasses, hair ties, extra cards, memory cards, power bank, led flashlight. No bowl with clutter in my sight :)
I use white ikea cardboard boxes in different sizes for years now, they don't have to be transparent or labeled. It's all just a question of organisation.
Same with spices, liquid soap and shampoo, I peel off whenever possible and use original containers to refill :)
Thank you for the feedback :)
@@OrgaNatic you're welcome ^^

I love your outfit! Cute shirt + blazer and it perfectly complements your hair. :)

Where did you purchase the cute tshirt?
Amazing thanks 🌹😍
Glad you liked my video :)
I'm another, "I will forget it if I can't see it" person. I used to think I was the only one with that affliction... ;-)
Same here. I think most people are not aware of all their possessions. Except ultra minimalists like Fumio Sasaki who own less than 100 items ^^ his book was a great inspiration for me :)
Thank u..I like all your tips except for the tip of removing labels on detergent bottles.
Thank you for the feedback. Actually it was a tip of Marie Kondo which I commented, that I don’t recommend to remove the back sticker with all the important information 😊
@@OrgaNatic Even the front. It might be dangerous.

So many useful ideas! I will use the one of putting the bottle label off. I love Marie Kondo, thank you!

I always love to declutter and organize before Christmas!

Hanging is definitely the best. Folding is for this who doesn’t have enough storage space
Your home is beautiful!
Thank you 😊
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT Video!! Thank you so much!!
Thanks a lot
I don't have a lot of clothing...so no problem here. lol
I rarely store things in their original containers.
i love your voice, it is so calming
Thank you 😊
Minimalism is key👍
Totally agree with you 😊❤️
Thank you for this♥️
Thank you so much for sharing these tips best ideas by the Marie Kondo method. I loved the part where you say declutter first, because that is the biggest mistake I always make, so again this leads to same disorganised space. Thanks for this video Have a Great Day from Rizwana!
Awesome, thank you!
I like your Video! 👍🏻🙂
Danke schön, Lisa 😊❤️
verv nice video: thanks: useful and even the way u present it with ur calm voice and organized way: excellent

Rather than sort through every item, just make a list of what you actually need and discard the rest. Quick and easy.
@deerheartedmama Yes. It's always difficult to declutter. Needs versus wants.
Hard but makes sense. I want to have a capsule wardrobe so I will try it.
@@monicas2269 Smart!
@@monicas2269 You could also take in the seams of some of your larger clothes.
True, you have to throw away & let go unused stuff first before organizing.
Awesome video
@@OrgaNatic Thank you for your tips! :D
Omg thank u, I cut out important info I need for pasta, rice ext and tape it on the side. Looks horrible. Never thought of putting on the bottom!
Brilliant!!!
Thanks so much :)
Great idea thanks
I have always liked removing labels and packaging and been criticized, so it is affirming to know I am not alone and that there is recognized esthetic value in the practice.
I hope you don't do it for potentially toxic cleaning products, though.
