    I cant believe they charge 250 for this thing now. The most expensive thing in that box is the 70 dollar audio grade transformer. Not only that but there are zero bells and whistles. It's literally the simplest diy build you could do.

    So the new tramp box has more gain. The blue radial is half the price though, and seems to sound pretty okay. Can you just gain up in the DAW? What's the difference in doing it in software vs hardware?

    I haven't got any means of testing, recording, &c. Not really what I do. I have been using a Little Labs Redeye, or sometimes my P.I.P., for reamping guitar after using my UA Solo 610 for a sweet, sweet pre-amp for my clean guitar tone. I was doing a kick drum mic thing but my drummer friend died and kind of derailed that project. Just idly tried the Solo with my guitar, then immediately shipped my unopened BAE DMP and a Redeye to a real guitar player that I know so he could try it. (Presumably the BAE works about as well, totally different cicuits.) I need to call him up and see how that works for him, before I lose my phone again.
    I put that Signal Arts box right up top of my list, currently need another one (but its missing) and it's lower cost than the Little Labs units. (I also misplaced my IVOG, sorta spendy stuff to lose, but that's why I need spares.)

    I'm a super picky, critical, highly opinionated guitarist. That being said, I don't mind the differences here. I think the blue box is fine. At a $100 delta, the other two aren't worth it to me. The gain drop is a bother sometimes, but you can manage.

    • @creativesoundlab
      @creativesoundlab  4 роки тому

      Yeah I didn’t think they sounded that different in the video. But in person I noticed it right away standing next to the amp.

    • @cbrooks0905
      @cbrooks0905 4 роки тому +2

      @Creative Sound Lab, He's listening with guitarist ears, not producer/engineer ears. I hear major tonal differences between the $100 one, which I own and hate, and the other two. Now, to me, the tonal difference between the other two is pretty negligible, but the boutique pedal has lower noise and way more gain. I'd say that makes it a winner..and less knobs to have to fiddle with...? I've been planning on buying a new re-amper as my next buy, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Signal Art. Thanks for the video.

    • @creativesoundlab
      @creativesoundlab  4 роки тому +2

      Yeah very true about our perspectives. For me I remember feeling a little spooked that someone was in the room with me that was playing through the amp. It just felt more real, and that’s from an engineer that does not (yet) play the instrument. So perhaps guitarists would feel that more? The biggest issue is that it’s hard to hear stuff when it’s not at your own environment. I have a hard time with mic shootouts online myself...and with mics that I already own! Ha. Great discussion.

    • @cbrooks0905
      @cbrooks0905 4 роки тому

      Creative Sound Lab, yeah, more real is a good way to put it. The baby blue one sounds lifeless to me. I have first hand experience with it. I’ve never liked anything I’ve ever re-amped through it. Now I know why.

      I have been using some tools from Little Labs, and intend to save a few shekels on my next three re-ampers, at least, by using these. I didn't get the same tone from the Radial device I had, but they have a bunch to choose from and are probably a legitimate solution as well. ymmv

    Nice video my friend! Please, as Studio One user, help me with reamping, I am newbe one!
    I am a new owner of the MOTU M4, 4 outputs - 4 inputs.
    Outputs 1 and 2 goes to my studio monitors. This is the chain I use: DAW guitar DI track from output 3 of MOTU (balanced cable) to reamp box, then to pedals, preamplifier or microphone for amplifier, then return to input 2 of my MOTU M4.
    I make a new mono track in Studio One, I choose input 2 and then ... nothing !!! I only listen the DI track, the second track does not receive a signal for recording. The problem is in the Studio One's I/O, I do not know what to adjust ... sometimes, teasing some settings, I managed to record but with a bad sound and with a short delay. What am I doing wrong;...
    Sory from my bad English!
    Thank you very much you or any other friend who wants to help.

    Why cannot you add a boost pedal for example tube screamer in between the reamp box and the amplifier and just boost the signal as you would do most of the time when you play heavy guitars?

    • @GartenhausLP
      @GartenhausLP 2 роки тому +1

      I did that before I got a signal art. Tube screamers usually get fed hot signals aswell. A quieter signal will not get you the same results. You‘d need yet another source of gain between the reamp box and the tube screamer like a clean boost pedal or line driver. The signal art basically is that but with less cables and a unit less.

  • @majorgiroux

      @JayBeBerg 3 роки тому

      For some reason all guitar DI's I record have overblown flubby bass compared to the same guitar signal straight into the amp, but the Signal Art box has enough gain to actually reamp without a boost pedal (and add more noise). I can always cut or boost bass.

  • @bencolemanart
    @bencolemanart 4 місяці тому

    OK, here's a dumb question, isn't the whole point of a reamp box to attenuate signal? Because a line level signal is too strong? Is the benefit of the Signal Art box simply that it offers a choice to not attenuate as much, at higher gain settings? It's still attenuating, right?

    • @bencolemanart
      @bencolemanart 4 місяці тому

      OK, I am now going to (maybe) answer my own dumb question: the whole point of a DI box is to convert a high-impedance signal to low-impedance signal... so the loss of gain is a (potential) undesirable byproduct of this process?

  • @InstruMentalCase
    @InstruMentalCase Рік тому

    I’m very confused here - isn’t the whole point of a reamp box to convert the raw DI recording from your interface’s line level / low impedance output back down to a guitar’s high impedance / instrument level? This sounds like it’s about smashing the front end of an amp with an unrealistically high output signal, no?

    Rule no.1: don't use high gain pickups. They never do anything good to your sound and you can always add any kind of saturation/distortion to your sound.
    Rule no.2: don't take advice about sound from metalheads.
    My point: ...a reamp box that boosts? I guess someone skipped their physics lessons..... It all becomes apparent with a/b/c tests when the lowest in volume (biggest headroom) sounds the brightest and the least dynamic. Not to mention that above everything the Signal Art distorts quite a lot. Who wants and/or needs a distorting reamp box?!
    Please, don't get distracted by this BS, paying 200€ for this is appauling. You loose your dynamics and ruin everything that is desirable in reamping in the first place.

      Any advice for a good sounding reamp box?

    • @mod3l
      @mod3l 2 роки тому

      @@althewicked from the top of my head, I really like the Orchid Electronic reamp boxes for guitars. I also like their DI boxes (although they are not completely clean). For synths, I use ART Dual RDB, because they are stereo, but are also ok for guitars.
      ...allthough, I have to say, after my tilted comment upstairs, that the ART boxes do sound quieter than most, for some reason. Which is ok for synths, because they tend to produce sounds inside a broader frequency spectrum, but when using those for guitars, I needed to crank my amps a bit higher to get them clipping properly.

    • @althewicked
      @althewicked 2 роки тому +2

      @@mod3l Thanks for your suggestions! Actually the only reason for me for a reamping box is because of reamping Fuzz pedals. For all other guitar pedals (or Amps) I just go line out of the RME UCX 2 in to the pedals and then back to the Hi-Z input of the RME (I just have to reduce the input gain of -4db for gain level match) and its sounding exactly like the original pedal tones. With the Fuzz pedals its different. I think they are reacting very sensitive of the impedance and I thought maybe a reamping box would fix that but what I read in some forums its almost impossible to reamping Fuzz pedals (also with expensive reamping boxes) without changing the tone very noticeable.
      Have you tried to reamping Fuzz with the Orchid Electronic reamp boxes? Or maybe you have a better solution for reamping Fuzz pedals?

    • @mod3l
      @mod3l 2 роки тому

      @@althewicked tbf, i used to go straight in as well, but I changed to reamp boxes just so I don't have to worry and eliminate the human factor (eg. Me), so less mistakes happen when I have to engineer a certain sound.
      Orchid works fine with fuzz pedals i've tried it with (z.vex, old Schaller, Big Muff reissue). Some fuzzes are tricky even with some volume pedals in front of them if i remember correctly. There's also a trick with fuzz pedals, especially the old ones, where if you power them with batteries (old, not alkaline) they sound way better and cleaner. Maybe try that as well.
