I've been in both a foundry and a major steel mill many years ago with my jobs. It's hard to explain just how hot molten steel feels. We wore wool based jackets etc. to protect from the heat. If you rolled your sleeve up you could feel the hairs singe on your arms, same applied to your eyebrows if you took off the goggles/visor. A very hard and dangerous place to work even in the West.
