  • Its been around 6 months since I've given the sump a good clean. Since I have decided to ditch the Nyos Torq reactor and start dosing lanthanum chloride I thought I would treat the sump to a spring clean.

    i find with the nyos skimmer if you clean the pump etc but leave the main body dirty it still skims as it did but quietens down a lot for a while :)

    Great video Tris, dont know why but I found it really therapeutic haha! I had never thought of using a wet/dry vacuum like that, great idea! Was great to see the before and after, how often do you clean out your sump like that?

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      It wasn't very therapeutic doing it 😂😂 it was a bloody mission, the floor was soaked and so was most of me 🙈 I used to give it a deep clean every 2 months and wipe the glass and bottom every week... I got a little lazy

    What are the probes?
    Also, any reason why you don't just throw the biomedia in a big bag and keep it in the sump? Easier to pull out?

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      The probes are for the Profilux 4 buddy.
      I'd like to say there's a good reason the media isn't in a bag... It didn't even cross my mind 🙈 next sump clean they are going in a bag 👍

      @@NanoTankReefer well I thought maybe the bag would get detritus, but then a dunk and rinse would clean it, but dunno..I'm starting a new tank and going to get some bio balls and put them in a bag in the sump. It's all about finding ways to make maintenance easy as possible!

    I was thinking if there is another way to do this sump clean..like some pump that will pump the water out and you feed it through like a sock while keeping it in the sump? This way, the water remains, sump is clean too? Or best to remove the water completely with th detritus?

      If it wasn't in such a state I could have used the old King of DIY polisher filter method. He did a how to video years back with a bottle crammed with floss on the end of a pump. That would definitely work, I could run it for a few hours and remove it from the sump once the job is done 🤔

      @@NanoTankReefer I'll check it out, I found the video that gave me the idea. It was mad hatter's video titled "how to remove detritus...".
      2 year old video but he had this pump with two ends, one that sucked in and the other end that pushed out the water what was sucked. Had a sock at the end to grab the detritus. I'll see if I can get that pump in UK, might be a cheaper and quicker route..maybe
