great tutorial! i don't play piano, nor do i own one, but i'm procrastinating homework and it was interesting to watch! if i ever come by a piano now i have something i could try! lol
Almost but not quite. As you get near the end of the first part, the left hand steps down through different inversions of the chords and ends with root E. It never comes back up once it starts going down. Right at 1:05 you need to actually play Em one inversion down and keep going from there. Have a close listen to the song and you'll see what I mean.
Thanks. I'm new to piano and reading music is difficult for me. I figured out most of it but you helped me get through the rest of it :) it's not as hard as it sounded at first, looking at all that sheet music can be kind of overwhelming.
J, I know what you mean, starting a new instrument can be very stressful, and sometimes it'll feel like you have such a steep mountain ahead of you. I'm glad I was able to help, keep up your piano work and never compare your playing to anyone else. With time and hard work you can do anything!
oml this helps soooo much lol, I've been in piano lessons for almost 2 years now and I've been dying to learn this song, and now I can sit down and play it whenever I want thanks to you! great tutorial/cover!
+STACY P Hey Stacy! I'm sorry to tell you that I don't, I learned this piece by ear and writing out the notes would take several hours. I suggest to just watch the video at your piano and play each section like I do, and then rewind the video as needed. Sorry I couldn't help more, -NBPiano
Yes! When learning any piano song it's best to practice both hands separately, and then when you feel you can do both parts well, play hands together SUPER SLOW, and just keep repeating to gain muscle memory.
Hey tom cat, Unfortunately I don't have sheet music, I learn almost all of my songs by ear! I'm sure if you follow the tutorial you'll be able to get it!
Hey Christopher, When learning a new song on the piano it's a good idea to play a single measure very slow, and gradually increase the speed the the actual tempo. Since most of this song is the same, you only need to learn one rhythm before you can understand the whole song. Good luck!
Tyler Forsyth I learned it a few months ago and now I can play it with my eyes closed. The trick for me was to learn each hand separately and memorize them fully that way I didn’t have to think as hard playing both hands, it definitely still took me a long time to play it smoothly but I got there
How do you do the pedal? I am having trouble with it sounds choppy esp the left hand, but I don't know when to do the pedal if I do need to use it. Do you play certain notes lighter than others or one hand lighter than others?
Hey Kendra, A good rule for the sustain pedal is to life it whenever the chord changes. Therefore, for example, you won't slur an E chord over an F chord. In this song you can get 95% of all the pedal lifts I do by just lifting the pedal right before you hit a new chord in the left hand, and pressing it when you hit the new left hand chord. Hope this helps!
This depends on how new you are to the piano, for a fresh beginner this could be a difficult piece (7-8). But you don't need to know notes for this one, you can just copy exactly what I do, so this may not be too difficult. Hope it goes well for you!
+James Theus yes that's correct, probably should've mentioned that! so lets count out a number for every right hand note: 1 2 3 4 5 6 the left hand hits on 1 and 4.
Hey JV, don't worry, syncopation is always difficult at first. If you really want to master this (or any song) learn both sections separately, and once comfortable, start playing with both hands at a MUCH slower tempo. Go as slow as you need to play section, and practice at that pace until you can do it without mistakes. Once comfortable, increase the tempo a little bit, and repeat until you're at the full speed!
I have a piano and can some what play but my hands are the size of a toddlers hands even though I'm 18, the moral of this story is I can't play this song because of my baby sized hands.
That definitely is unfortunate, but not as uncommon as you think. In general, as you try to play more octaves, your hands might stretch over time. However if you really want to play this song, you can swing your right hand back and forth between the octave notes, if you practiced this enough I'm sure you could play this song!
I normally don't watch tutorials like this because people normally don't explain it this well (: great job
Thank you for your kind words, It definitely means a lot!
Thanks man i just went to a lumineers concert last night and i wanted to learn how to play this song :)
Carter I went to their concert just 2 weeks ago.. I want to go AAGGGAAAAIN!!!😭
great tutorial! i don't play piano, nor do i own one, but i'm procrastinating homework and it was interesting to watch! if i ever come by a piano now i have something i could try! lol

Connolly Woo you guys should definitely buy a piano!
I've heard this song thousands of times, and I always wanted to play it on the piano, now thanks to you I know how to play it, THANK YOU!
wow i actually learned this by ear on my own and its cool too see that i got it exactly as you did 👍
This is one of the best tutorials (covers, too) I've seen ever. Wonderful work.

wow! perfect! feels like I'm in paradise.. or high up in the skies, above the clouds...
You played so well! I skipped the tutorial and watched the initial part over and over 😄😄
Thanks Prateek!

Love this video. Skips all the easy stuff and just tells us what chords and order.
Thank you for this! I'm a beginner in piano, but your tutorial is so helpful, I was able to learn this song :)
Amazing. Glad to hear!
Just covered patience and was able to learn it because of your tutorial! You should make more tutorials
Glad I could help! I'm considering making a tutorial for 'For Fra' soon..
Thanks a lot, very helpful - looking forward to seeing your future content

this is amazing! how do you not have more subscribers.
Thank you! Maybe they just haven't found me yet ;)
I found this helpful, but I don't think I'd want to subscribe. Not that its bad, but this is really all I need of your channel. Anyway, great job!!
Thank you so much for a great tutorial! I've been looking so long for one!
I'm writing this as your playing, well done good sir

Very good tutorial. Thank you!!
this is sooo good thanks!!!!
Really good job 😉
Thanks! Hope the video helped!
great playing, sounds just like the album
do you use the pedals at all?
Of course! I have the sustain pedal pressed throughout the whole song, lifting it every time I change chords in the left hand.
It really helped, thank you!
This is so amazinggg!
Hi is there anyway you could send the notes as I'm just beginning and I would love to learn to play this song. Thanks!
+STACY P Hey Stacy! I'm sorry to tell you that I don't, I learned this piece by ear and writing out the notes would take several hours. I suggest to just watch the video at your piano and play each section like I do, and then rewind the video as needed.

Hey I've never played piano before but will I be able to learn to play this song or should I try something easier?
If you have no experience playing the piano, then Patience will definitely be a very difficult piece to learn.
So helpful thanks for this!
Happy to be of assistance!
Got the right hand down, but adding the left hand my mind and fingers don't jive. Any tips
Yes! When learning any piano song it's best to practice both hands separately, and then when you feel you can do both parts well, play hands together SUPER SLOW, and just keep repeating to gain muscle memory.
Nailed it
thanks for this! amazing!
Hello, can you show me the sheet music (if you have one)? I would be beyond thankful.
Hey tom cat,
Unfortunately I don't have sheet music, I learn almost all of my songs by ear! I'm sure if you follow the tutorial you'll be able to get it!
NBPiano How can you learn by ear? You must be a superhuman.
I really can't get the timing on the left hand as the right hand plays, any tip?
Christopher Dio your left hand plays every third key your right hand hits.
Hey Christopher,
When learning a new song on the piano it's a good idea to play a single measure very slow, and gradually increase the speed the the actual tempo. Since most of this song is the same, you only need to learn one rhythm before you can understand the whole song. Good luck!
It's hard to do the cords
omg amazing thaaaanks !!
just to let you know if its in B major, there will not be flat notes. It will be a C Sharp not Db
Thank you for this!
its harder than it looks
Maria Uribe grrr. Been at it for a week. Fml
I actually think the opposite
Tyler Forsyth I learned it a few months ago and now I can play it with my eyes closed. The trick for me was to learn each hand separately and memorize them fully that way I didn’t have to think as hard playing both hands, it definitely still took me a long time to play it smoothly but I got there
it's not, it's pretty straightforward

NBPiano Yes that helps so much! Finally got it finished and sounding right. Thank you for responding!
Could you please do for fra by the lumineers?
aha sure
on a scale of 1-10 (1 being easy, 10 being very hard) how difficult is this for someone who just picked up the piano? (doesn't read notes)
This depends on how new you are to the piano, for a fresh beginner this could be a difficult piece (7-8). But you don't need to know notes for this one, you can just copy exactly what I do, so this may not be too difficult. Hope it goes well for you!
you're awesome
gracias!!! saludos desde argentina :D
Thank you so much!!!!
I thought on the ride hand it was more of a right-left-right / left-right-left instead of just a right-left
+James Theus Nope! Just a simple right-left, makes things real easy.
+NBPiano ok but do you hit the left hand note every three keys that you hit on the right?
+James Theus yes that's correct, probably should've mentioned that! so lets count out a number for every right hand note: 1 2 3 4 5 6 the left hand hits on 1 and 4.
You sound alot like stelth ulvang , one of the members of the lumineers . Anyways thanks for the great tutorial
Its too fast could you please do the left hand alnone?
Did you watch the whole video? I cover the left hand at 4:00, stopping to say all of the chord names and inversions.
Also I don't appreciate the comment spam.
NBPiano I think he is really new and doesn't know chords, needs an explanation of what the chords are.
I just can’t play a slow rhythm in my left hand while my right hand plays a faster one. I always end up messing up.. lol uhhhhhh
Hey JV, don't worry, syncopation is always difficult at first. Who downs this!!!
