Your expression when the first note leaves Steve Perry's mouth is priceless and pretty much sums up everyone's reaction to hearing the magic voice and sound of Journey with Steve Perry
The sad part about this video is that Steve Perry was in excruciating pain because he needed a left hip replacement. But, you would never know it. He would go into a back room and ice the front and back of his hip to get even a bit of relief from the pain. This was also the last video they did together. They also never went on tour to promote this Album, "Trial By Fire" because even through pleading to his band mates to wait for him to get the hip replacement, they didn't want to wait for Steve. He pleaded with them, "If you go on tour without me, don't call it "Journey", don't crack the stone." Behind his back, they started auditioning lead singers. As soon as they called Steve to tell him he was replaced, Steve called his Attorney Lee Phillips. He told him, "Start the Divorce." Steve was done with Journey. There will never be another band like this. Nor, will they EVER replace "The Voice", Steve Perry!
Jerks! That’s such a mistake! They thought they were too big for their pants! What they didn’t realize he could get a band anywhere! They couldn’t find another Voice like Steve’s!! Journey ended there!
Open Arms, such fond memories for this 53 yr old. I fell in love for the first time with that as "our song". I even learned how to sing it in sign language. BF bro was deaf and got a kick out of use sing/signing it together. I miss those innocent days
Oh honey, now your witnessing greatness! The best rock band of the 80’s. Steve Perry was known simply as “The Voice”, and Neil Schoen on guitar! Please dig into their catalog. Send her my love Only the Young I’ll be alright without you
@@hudsoncarnahan2152 That's kind of difficult to really pinpoint because everyone has their opinion on singers. Perry may not be my favorite singer but he is in my top 10 list. I see Steve Perry being that great of a singer; in a top 10 of all time. But also, that's just my opinion.
One of the best singers ever! He was the lead singer for the legendary band, Journey. His voice will get all over you and is unmistakable. Love to see you reacting to Steve and appreciating his awesomeness!
Thank you youngblood for not interrupting this masterpiece. I’m so glad to see that young people are tapping into what older folks like me grew up with and it’s a beautiful thing.❤️💕💯
"Faithfully", "Open Arms", "Don't Stop Believing", "Lights", "Wheel In The Sky", "Separate Ways". You've a nice Journey ahead. My 2nd favorite American rock band.
I grew up with Journey / Steve Perry era. I'm 59 now . a teenager then . So much Great Music. Steve has a Unique vocal and emits so much goodness , whatever he sings.
Well done my young friend!! I am a long time fan of Journey's. The lead singer is Steve Perry, he is known by his fan's as the 'The Voice'!!! This song came from the album called 'Trial By Fire' (1996) which is the very last album with Steve Perry. Songs you should really react to ...... Still They Ride (studio version), Mother Father (from the 1981 concert from Houston, Tx) Feelin' That Way/Anytime (Steve shares vocals with Greg Rolie, a past member of Journey) Lights, Escape, Message Of Love, Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain, Send Her My Love, After The Fall. Edge Of The Blade, The Party's Over, Daydream, Stone In Love (also from the Houston concert, Wheel In the Sky (either studio or from the Houston concert) Who's Cryin' Now (from the Houston concert) Just They Same Way (with Greg Rolie). Steve's solo music .... Oh Sherrie, Foolish Heart, Strung Out, You Better Way, Missin' You, Anyway, some NEW STUFF!!!! We Fly, We're Still Here, You Belong To Me, Most Of All, I Need You. Enjoy!!
"Against the Wall" is a must Steve sings with the guitar at the end of the song and as always sounds phenomenal, it will give you chills as it pierces right through your soul and remains.
This is my oldest sister’s favorite song. She passed this year at the end of February. I love that you are reacting to this one specifically. Journey was everything to people in the 70’s and 80’s. There is no one like them. I know of them from my 4 older sisters. Rest In Peace my big sis, Patricia. I miss you so much
Welcome to the world of journey!!! There is no one better than them in the 70s and 80s. Just truly a one of a kind band and oh, did I mention Steve perry is probably the most diverse vocalists of our generation. Ya feel his emotions. Keep going.,
Probably because they were up against bigger names in the music business. You know how that goes. Will have to look up the other nominees and see who/what won.
Fact during this making of this video Steve was in excruciating pain with a bone disease that attacked his hips and between takes he had to ice his hips but you would never know he was in so much pain by his voice. Thank you for this video and your reaction is exactly what I knew it would be
Being born in 1970, I witnessed the VERY BEST music! From Zeppelin, Beatles, to Journey, Skynard, to Boys to men, TLC, EnVogue, Biggie,Tupac, NWA, Eminem, Green Day, Frampton, Cheap Trick, country, hip hop, Alt Rock and all thise before & after. When someone asks who is your favorite band? Haha, cant even begin To rank them!
I like how he went from this is just going to be just another reaction i have to do . To ,recognition with mouth wide open . Then , astonishment and respect . That he was hearing something truly unique and legendary !
When they released this song in 1996 (I think), I was 25 and nearly dropped something on the floor. When Steve Perry sang the first notes I froze on the spot and thought "Who IS this?" and being taken aback. When I heard "Journey" I thought "No, can't be. Where the heck have I been?". The station I listened to had a "Steve Perryoke" in the mornings and I would hear "DSB", "Separate Ways", and then I heard "Faithfully" and nearly hit a cub I was so blown away. Been a fan and kicking myself in the rump since then. They are amazing and Your facial expressions probably matched mine.
You should react to their song Mother Father the best one is the live Houston concert. This particular song really show Steve Perry's range in his voice.
I used to save my lunch money to get enough to buy Journey cassettes, my Junior year in high school, I installed my own radio/cassette player and 6 x9 speakers. I literally wore out copies of every cassette of theirs that I purchased. Awe my youth, and the lessons I have learned over the expanse of years that have past.
React too Journeys who's crying now or wheel in the sky or any sing of there's there all great master pieces (: Journey is a epic legendary band of greatness (:
This song came on there album after they got back together in 1996. They planned to tour but Steve Perry ended up finding out her had a degenerative bone disease in one of his hips. He couldn’t go on tour. Eventually, it was the end of Journey with Steve Perry as lead singer. There was bad blood between him and the band because they wouldn’t wait for him to make a decision on when he would have surgery for his hip. He actually was in extreme pain making this video and packed ice on his hip while filming!!!
Love your reaction!! It's great to hear a different perspective on a favourite band of mine from the 80's. Jim Rome's take on Steve Perry's voice is the best: "it's like porn for the ears" I have been hoping that Steve and the band will reunite for a future tour.
You reacted the same way most everyone else does to the legend, Steve Perry’s voice. I saw numerous requests for Mother, Father, Live in Houston. You listen to that one and there is no turning back. Next is Don’t Stop Believing Live in Houston. Remember…No Autotune! Simply magical! I love what you guys do. I’m a fan forever. Keep spreading your positive energy. The world needs you!
Steve has that blend of amazing pitch power with oh so much soul...never heard anyone else quite like him. Like Freddie he is one of a kind. I have seen Journey many times in concert ...Stevie never disappoints.
Steve Perry and Journey are so amazing. Saw them in concert in 1979 in a smaller venue. That voice! Listen to the song "Lights" from their first album.
Would love to see a reaction to Wheel in the Sky. A young guy my friend knew was killed in an auto accident in the 80's and that song was what was playing when he crashed. They found out when it was retrieved. I can't hear that song without thinking of him. Such an eerily ironic song to die to.
Dude if this is truly your first time hearing Journey you have opened the door to probably the top 5 best music groups in our life time. So,so many amazing songs they made. Listen to all their albums I guarantee you will join the multi million fan club. Enjoy the music. 👍🏻
I'm an old guy and it's not easy to impress me but you often do. You nailed Steve Perry with your first word "effortless". Dude can flat SING and you heard that straight off. That's what I said 😮
Which is why I won't see them live now - without Perry's voice, it's just another cover band, no matter who's playing what.
One of the greatest voices ever and one of the best bands too

They did him so wrong.
Bet they wish they would have waited ! He’s the best!
Oddly enough, Steve met the new singer Arnel Pineda. Pineda has always worshipped Perry. They met and hugged. I'm guessing no hard feelings.
Jerks! That’s such a mistake! They thought they were too big for their pants! What they didn’t realize he could get a band anywhere! They couldn’t find another Voice like Steve’s!! Journey ended there!
Didn't he have throat issues to heal from too?
Steve Perry’s vocals are insane . He can hit power notes effortlessly and not kill your ears doing it.
