this album was so instrumental in my musical and personal upbringing. I never played any of the games but was obsessed with the music and bought both the album and the sheet music sometime around 2007-08. this collection stands out among the series with its super overt jazz influences too. I've always loved "Wind Crest" and "Akagi Party" and "Demise"... the opening of Demise is so unusual, asking the pianist to touch the string to change its timbre/resonance, and the way it is a slow, spiraling build, unexpected for a battle theme, haunting and strange. I'm now a pianist and composer ("for a living") and I don't know where I would be without this music, that was written specifically to bring us to other worlds, to have us believe in them... really special. thanks for putting this together.
I'm so glad to hear that someone who isn't a gamer really appreciates and has been inspired by this music. Ever since I first heard them in the game, I thought these songs were incredibly magical and beautiful and that they deserved a wider audience. :)
You should try to play them. The story that occurs is easily brought back to mind by the music when you hear it again. That may help you create more evocative music. Also pretty much every final fantasy game is good. Some are better than others, but 7 and X have very immersive stories and have multiple sequels to further expand the story and this also have more music associated. 13 is similar to them as well Although not quite as well regarded. I personally also like 4 and 6. The dancing dolls theme from 4 was a ring tone for me for awhile. And the opera from 6 was fun as well.
I just love the sort of fake climax at 47:00. I mean, after these big crescendos and rythmic mantras, you're waiting for an explosion on the inital theme, something epic, but the result is in fact quite soft and reserved. It's beautiful.
Definitely my favourite Piano Collections album. Eternity ~Memories etc~ is the tune that got me into playing the piano in the first place. Sadly I still cannot play the piano, but I do love following the score as the music plays. Thanks!
Wow, I don't know if this or the FFXIIPiano collection is best. They're both just so incredibly complex and truly gorgeous interpretations of the originals
FFX was one of my favorite games growing up and I can't really describe how disappointed I was by FFX-2. I fell in love with FFX as an 11 year old in 2002, right around the time FFX-2 was announced and I watched its development in real time, even getting scammed buying some bootleg promotional DVD for it from Japan that I thought was a full Japanese copy of the game. The music at the time was just another aspect of that disappointment, seeing how unapologetically different it was in style and tone from the previous soundtracks. It was just so obviously J-pop and jazz inspired, compared to Uemtasu's sometimes too serious hodgepodge of prog and classical influences. But coming back to the piano collections after so much time, I realize that there actually is a lot of maturity and sophistication in the writing. From a pianistic perspective, I think this is just clearly better translated than almost any of the other piano collections. It's the only piano collections that fully feels like pieces written for the piano as opposed to playing transcriptions. But even in the writing itself, you do see a lot of advanced harmony and especially variety (compared to say, Hamauzu drenching every single piece in 7th and 9th chords.) Cool music for a game that really didn't deserve it.
9:07 Does anyone have the sheet music download? Anyone please? I've been searching for these notes for eternity. I might just screenshot the notes, but is there a pdf. or any other sheet music possible download?

Eternity - What an amazing arrangement. What a wonderful performance.

That’s inspiring

42:04 - 12. Eternity ~Memories of Light and Waves~ /
I remember back then i just leave my ps2 on title screen just listening to Memories of Light and Waves. Beautiful
I remember doing that a few times as well
I just love the sort of fake climax at 47:00.

Just so insanely complex and beautiful. They went all out for this and its gorgeous.

+Buffoon1980 Totally agree. I think the music is not FF-like but definitely beautiful.
I can hear Debussy's Premier Arabesque at around 40:00... YUM!
Wow, I don't know if this or the FFXIIPiano collection is best. They're both just so incredibly complex and truly gorgeous interpretations of the originals

I'm quite fond of your presentation. The music is great also of course.
Well, I can play the first few measures of 'Demise' at least
xDDDDDDDD
Zanarkand ruins give me weird sad feeling on my back
never heard any of these before, but ofc final fantasy music is gas
Yuna's Ballad is my personal favorite here
Amazing!!
Thanks for uploading!
You can hear the string break at 26.30
Would you be able to make a scrolling sheet video for the Kingdom Hearts piano collection? Really helps with learning pieces/gauging them.
Yep, this piano collection was the only thing salvageable from ffx2.
Nice broken string at 26:29
Yes!! I thought I imagined it, but that broken string was so perfectly timed! (and it reappeared a few seconds later for one final performance)
man I was thinking the same lol
It's so beautiful haha
