Outstanding! Very practical with the floor and possibility to cut the air flow with the "door". Very instructional presentation too - thank you for sharing☺️
I'm with everybody else great job. I've watched hundreds of designs but if you need to be shut in because of weather, with a floor in the door this is definitely it. Thank you. For sharing your knowledge with us.
Sir you may never see this video but I really enjoyed it and this is the first very practical enclosed tarp shelter with a floor video I have seen. This is the most basic and primitive that I have ever seen and I truly enjoyed it. Thank you for taking out the time to teach. Shalom
This is going to save my life in a few days. My school does a backpacking trip for the second week of school, and one of the nights is a solo night. The first time I went, I had no idea what I was doing, so my shelter was horrible and I had an awful time. Now that I've watched this, I kind of know what I'm doing, so it'll be a lot better. Thank you!
If you can, practice some before the trip. It always makes it easy when you've done something a few times. Keep in mind if you aren't allowed a sleeping bag, fill the shelter with leaves for warmth.
That looks like a pretty handy thing to be able to do. Also, if you were using one of those crazy expensive, ultra lite kind of tarps, it probably would fit in your pocket. It's nice to see someone making one of these shelters using the kind of tarps us common folk probably already have in our camping supplies.
+dustysquito I actually just used this setup last week. Very quick and easy to setup. I would hesitate using a ultra light weight tarp though, Part of it will be directly on the ground with you lying on it. I don't know how much abuse they would take. Thanks for commenting!
I know I'm late in seeing this, as it was posted 2 years ago, but I have seen a few floor and a door tarp designs and this is by far the simplest set up. I will definitely try it out.
I'm trying to go very light. I wanted a tarp setup with a floor and enclosed - but fast and easy. After watching about 20 other vids, YOU DELIVERED! Thank you.
I purchased a "blue stone" 10x10 tarp. Comes with cordage and stakes. Super light weight and is made of Nylon ripstop 210t for $26 on Amazon and it's olive colored. I've used blue tarps before and are awesome too in a pinch. Thanks for this video! I can't wait to go and try mine with this set up.
Another idea is the Larry Lay where you make a pile of leaves and lay the tarp next to the pile. Lay diagonally on the tarp, grab a corner, and roll yourself up in the tarp ending up on the leaf pile. An emergency measure.
Hi, this is the video I was looking for. I was curious about the door portion. Now I see, and it's brilliant. I would use another smaller tarp for the floor myself, it seems simpler. No biggie though. Sure beats the expensive tents Walmart is carrying now and when I'm done with it no big loss either. Thanks for sharing your expertise Sir, its appreciated.
I used it on a trip in Alabama last year. My recommendation is if you are depending on a fire to keep warm, do not setup this way. It only lets one end of your body exposed to the fire. If using with a fire, I recommend the tarp shelter with a floor and wind break setup instead.
The idea is nice and similar to the 'fully enclosed tarp' that I saw on Wildbeare's UA-cam channel and tried out myself. Sorry to you, but it was a lot more spacious and comfortable than that tent you tried to make.
A ventilation control hint: Attach the apex grommet loosely to a clove hitch around the tree (as high as practical), with a line from the grommet, thru the hitch to lower on the tree with a movable hitch, to be raised to loosen for more air, and lowered to tighten the front opening.
Hey there! This is a cool shelter. I actually was looking for a floor & door tarp setup (to keep the mosquitos and black flies away) for a 6 days canoe camping trip this summer and I happen to have a 10x10 tarp. So this will be perfect! Thanks a bunch!
Nicolas Hallee I'm glad it was helpful! Even though it's bigger then what I need as a cover when I hammock camp, I carry a 10x10 tarp with me. That way it can double as a shelter if I need to sleep on the ground.
High, i like your setup, but i would make the roof-string a little bit higher and would use one peg more. Than i can have the entrance as wide open as i like, and i am able to close it complete. Kindly Fiete
this should prove to be a useful design idea for motorcycle camping. We only do one night stays at state parks within a 3 hour or so drive of home for fun on the weekends so one tarp and some tent spikes keep the load light. also, even though there are some super light weight tents, this is just way easier and cheaper.
Nice work! I assume you cleared the leaves away from your tent site for better visuals on the setup. I would have left the forest duff under the tarp and even added more as ground insulation. Also, when low temps dictate more heat retention, one can tie a couple of small, solid deadfall logs onto the support tree and you have the frame for a tent lined debris hut.
It does make it easier to demonstrate with the ground cleared, but I also like to clear it if there are a lot of leaves. One of the worst things that can happen is a rock or root or stick hidden under the leaves that you missed until you roll on to it in the middle of the night. Even with the split floor it's still hard to find and remove. My main goal for this shelter was to show you could get a tent like feel without carrying a tent. Thanks for watching!
MonkeyMIkes Outdoors I saw Dave use that in one of his WildernessOutfitters videos, it is a pretty lightweight and inexpensive idea. Thanks for watching!
I'm having trouble understanding what you mean at 2:30 - you are putting a premsde loop through all three garments and then staking them all away from each other?
I tried a similar one like this yesterday on my overnighter - but I used a triangular shape and a stick to raise it up. However, I am thinking about rain - it seems very susceptible to letting rain inside here, since it has an opening where the point is tied off to the tree - any thoughts on this?
NorthExplorer I don't know, I haven't tried it in the rain. Next time it looks like rain I'll set it up in the yard and see what happens. One thing you could do is fold the backside under itself which should keep any running water out.
pawildernessskills Not sure what you mean. The backside (you mean where my feet will be? furthest away from the tree in your example here?) is already shut. I think the biggest issue would be having the water from the tree/highest point of tent trickle down and inside. Wondering how to counteract that. Perhaps tie one side over the other in some smart way.
You would have to watch where and how you placed the opening. If the rain is blowing it is going to come in. This setup is more for trapping your heat inside and the feeling of protection of an enclosed "tent".

I must have watched 100 tarp videos. Yours is the best one-- simple & effective, and it has a FLOOR.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Did you watched the 'fully enclosed tarp' that Wildbeare made? It has a floor too.
Outstanding! Very practical with the floor and possibility to cut the air flow with the "door". Very instructional presentation too - thank you for sharing☺️
Very nice.
Simple, effective, quick. I like that it will shed rain and that the floor will keep you dry.
Thanks
Toggles are your friend. Great setup! Thank you! I can't wait to go camping!

Brilliant! So simple, yet so effective. The best tarp set up I‘ve seen. Thank you!
Thank you. For keeping it simple for me.

I likely watched this >12 times 🤠
I will copy you.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!

Bubble wrat pops easily and doesn't last... I've tried it. Great vid though and I like this pitch for sure. Thanks!
Simple and easy, thank you for being prepared to make your video.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!

I await tarp groundsheet pegs I paid $204
I am state of the art just now. 🤠 this setup is cool alright
Tree instead of trekking pole? You have my complete attention.
Edited to add: that'll do it! Thanks for posting.
I know I'm late in seeing this, as it was posted 2 years ago, but I have seen a few floor and a door tarp designs and this is by far the simplest set up. I will definitely try it out.

I said the same exact thing this is by far the simplest and best I've ever seen

Jason Smith thanks for the tip. excellent price. going to check that out and this design for my weekend AT hike.
"Finally". Useful but more than that it's "easy". Plus Bubble Wrap, pure genius. Even I can do this one.
Another idea is the Larry Lay where you make a pile of leaves and lay the tarp next to the pile. Lay diagonally on the tarp, grab a corner, and roll yourself up in the tarp ending up on the leaf pile. An emergency measure.
Clever design. Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Nice floor included
great easy class thanks

Using a second tarp would work fine. I like one tarp because it is all connected. Less openings for water or critters to get in.
Thanks for watching!
this is great! Very nice easy set up bush shelter. Thanks!
Stephan Smith I hope it comes in handy. Thanks for watching!
Hi from Ireland 🇮🇪
Excellent!!!! Thank you for posting.
I'm going to use this on my survival weeklong next week great idea

Hi! Other suggestions of tarp setups from me @588s wit a door and floor too

Quick and simple is great! What about in a rain though; what happens with the water that runs down the tree trunk?
You could put a piece of string hanging off the main rope. The water would run down the string and drip on the ground.
Clever, door being under the peak seems better, seems like water could get in front if it rained?
You can pull the back of the tarp out more. this should let the front overhang the floor.
Thank you friend.
High, i like your setup, but i would make the roof-string a little bit higher and would use one peg more. Than i can have the entrance as wide open as i like, and i am able to close it complete. Kindly Fiete
If you open the entrance too wide you'll lose some of the floor.

Hmmm ..my only concern is a heavy rain . The bottom has a big slit front to back. Good idea though
amy fletcher
You could probably take a garbage bag or a shower liner and make a vestibule...
nice! simple and easy.

pawildernessskills Thats the insulation you get from lowes or home depot huh, I never thought if of that or bubble wrap lol, thanks for the vid!

Maybe I don't have enough gromits for this set up. I have three on each side of my 10 by 10 tarp
@@nagarakirtanadasa9334 That's probably the difference. Try to find one that has 5 on each side or add some grommets.
Thank you! How does one add in gromits?
@@nagarakirtanadasa9334 Something like this works.

how is it in summertime? is it hot sleeping at night? ty
I really don't camp in the summer. Fall, winter, spring is my camping season.
I tried a similar one like this yesterday on my overnighter - but I used a triangular shape and a stick to raise it up. However, I am thinking about rain - it seems very susceptible to letting rain inside here, since it has an opening where the point is tied off to the tree - any thoughts on this?

does it keep out rain ? hard?

nice video
That's awesome.
+Electron Pusher Thanks!
like it thanks. spring fever now
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff
+Roger Mainville Thanks!
keeps all that condensation in there too.
It's not too bad on the condensation. The front is open enough to still have some air flow. If you sealed it up tight, then maybe.
you also could have left the leaves under the tarp as a level of comfort and to keep you off the ground
+Dean Russell
It makes it easier to demonstrate with the ground cleared, but I also like to clear it if there are a lot of leaves. TURN THAT TARP UPSIDE DOWN WATERPROOF WHEN RAINING NO RAIN ON THE FLOOR
Audio is too low. Can't hear you
Toggle?
Other methods lack the simplicity of this one.
Why not buy a $25 tent?
