War is hell
@@vfctffu3797 Agreed. Hopefully we’ll never have to see it first hand.
Yeah so frickin hard to read. Too fast
Seems more fucked up than anything.
saigon more like SAIGONE
Diogenes was an absolute legend. Friend to dogs, his only possessions were cloths people threw on him so he wouldn't run around naked, and a bowl for water
Then one day he saw a kid cup water in his hands to drink it, and threw away his bowl in disgust at the wasteful indulgence he had unknowingly kept with him. He was a sarcastic bastard too; when a fancy shmancy philosophy hall nearby defined man as a "Featherless Biped" He stole a chicken, plucked it, and released it in the lecture hall, saying "Behold; A Man"
When the emperor came by and asked him what reward diogenes wanted for his contributions to philosophy, he simply replied "to get out of my sun" as he had been sunning himself beforehand.
Diogenes is the Real O.G.
Damn
@@oscarglad5284 Seriously, if you get the chance, look up Diogenes the Cynic, he's a madlad OG
The best part of that last episode about the emperor, (Alexander the Great). Alexander was so impressed by Diogenes' wit, that he said:
"If I wasn't Alexander, I wish I were Diogenes'"
And Diogenes replied "Well If I wasn't Diogenes, I would also like to be Diogenes"
Wich is the most epic comeback in history.
@@JH-lo9ut "Holy shit, man! wish I could be as witty as you!"
"Yes, Yes, we all do"
Poor chicken.
6:05 For anyone who doesn't study history, enjoy this super simplified and family-friendly explanation. Europe said hello to Egypt and for a while left their own people in charge. This happened more than once and European families moved to Egypt to eventually hold decent/high positions. Almost like it was a great supplier of food or other luxuries and European nations recognized that even in the ancient days. I do understand all of this was ancient days but some things were more ancient than others :P
8:45 I've heard and never confirmed, that they only accepted witches being real and burning them out of fear of a widespread peasant rebellion that they had no hope of stopping. Before that, it was punishable by burning to believe witches were real.
I'd like to add that, at the time, witch was not a gendered term. And while the majority of those killed were women. Plenty of men were killed for being witches.
@@renmcmanus ty for the addition.
To expand slightly further, while the picture is inaccurate due to facial features, Egyptians were and still are not as dark skinned as sub-Saharan Africans, and many North Africans in general have a skin tone similar to tanned Europeans or otherwise Arabs. This skin tone is especially similar to Italians and Greeks, specifically.
why does the pharaoh kinda look like homelander
@@yh0o because it is homelander >= 3
The Romans were in charge for a bit, it's from the game Pharaoh and is briefly brought up in the expansion there's a Roman dude in charge and he's rebelling against Rome with Cleopatra. spoiler, they lost.
0:11 “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
yea true
"for example, this demon owl, Stolas-"

Goetia family of Hazbin Hotel !!!
@@barryallen9625 Stolas and the Goetia family come from Helluva Boss not Hazbin Hotel
@@adynaton2001 right
I know the feel but, for once, it's the actual demon and not a gay twink.
Y‘know what‘s crazy? the 1900s were the fastest moving century. the plane was invented in 1903 and in 1957 the space race began
*vaakl mentions stolas*
Oh god i can hear the helluva boss fans already
Stolas pog
@@TheChaosGoddess1024we love the gay owl boi

14:04 now i got why stollas from hazbin hotel is a owl and astronomer
As a Swedish person I am utterly suprised our king only managed to eat 14 buns in one sitting
14 semlor.
I'm not Swedish but I know enough about the country and its people to know that either those were VERY large buns, or the meme is lying. Or the buns were filled with literal poison and he should have died after just one but wanted to eat more so badly that he overcame the poison long enough to eat 13 more. Like the Rasputin of delicious baking.
It was 14 servings of het-vägg which is semlor cooked in milk. I think it’s like 4 semlor that are about the size of half a modern semla. Plus there had been a feast so he had also eaten lobster and other shit
Did you know that 100% of Swedish kings that eat 14 rolls die
10:48
4:36 Infant mortality brings down life expectancy by a lot, they probably lived to 60 or so.
@@studiouskid1528 Sure, but mostly those diseases were what killed you in childhood and if you didn't die then you probably had a good enough immune system to last a long time.
13:50 I can't stop thinking about Helluva Boss every time i see this meme
yeah Imagine being a wise demon "thing" and being respected for thousands of years just to have your name forever linked with a cheating h*rny bird dude who is never shown teaching astronomy to ANYONE in a cartoon...
Stolas is awesome
"Historically accurate" Stolas: Hootie hoo I have knowledge about the stars to tell you.
Helluva Boss Stolas: Almost fucking died. Coulda just turned Striker to stone. Didn't. Bruh.
(no hate towards Helluva Boss, just wondering why Stolas doesn't defend himself.)
Striker had angelic material that he used, which would have probably blocked Stolas’s powers.
13:56 I now know a little bit more about the lore of Helluva Boss.
3:09 forgot the part where he single-handedly fixed its economy right afterwards.
3:39 Žižka is our history, we learned about him, most Czechs know the date when was burned alive, he even has a day dedicated to him, but this...we never learned in school, that makes him a lot cooler than he already was. 😂😂
I think you have mistaken Žižka with Jan Hus
8:49 This dude actually went from being considered 16-33 feet in length to being nerfed by a 13 feet💀
You see it as a demotion
I see it was a promotion to the status of King of Short kings
1:12 as a turkish that's so true lol 😆😆
For the record the thumbnail is wrong. A swedish did die eating dessert but it was Semlor and not cinnamon buns. Also he ate so much his stomach was so jammed packed it burst.
Came here to say that but you beat me to it. For the curious, you can find information about _semla,_ and why you would eat until you burst, here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semla
14:00 As a weirdo occult nerd who fucking loves talking about demons, this is the fist time in YEARS that I've seen stollas depicted as anything other than a gay twink.
I have, since the beginning of Helluva Boss, gained an intimate understanding of how historians must feel towards the FATE franchise.
“You’re telling me that they didn’t show Asmodeus riding on the back of a dragon?”
Yay for Helluva Boss
Fate actually encourages people to learn about history and mythology, though, because it directly references them.
I mean, I started reading some 500-year-old Italian poetry (translated to English) because I wanted to learn more about Astolfo... and it turns out Fate/Apocrypha actually does him justice, he really is best boy! He actually is a halfway-insane adventurer-hero who cares more about chivalry and friendship than about his own life! By the way, Orlando Furioso is basically an anime in epic poetry form.
Now someone understands my pain lol
100% instances when i see "Nobunaga" in nickname, person in question turns out to not know any nobunagas besides anime girl from gacha
And catgirl named "Dobrynya" who have nothing in common design-wise with Russia or bogatyrs (well, i guess they proud of cat joke in the name. And i'm aware that its his wife) is biggest crime against mythology since Changeling: the Dreaming named goth-fairies "Sluagh" and make them of Russian descent. despite having nothing in common nor with Scottish ghost-swarms whose name they have, nor with anything from Russian mythology.
Thank God i'm not particularly interested in Scandinavian mythology or Marvel would kill me with their nonsense (and i have 1,5 Marvel fans among my friends)
@2:04 And Juius Caesar had a reputation of treating his subjects well... Not so much the slaves, but then, probably still not a s bad as Bezos treats his employees
14:00
TIL that Stolas Goetia from _Helluva Boss_ is based off of a real demon of the same name.
All the other characters are based off their ‘real’ demon counterparts too
There was literally no one in Greek mythology named Hercules, this dude was the *Roman* version of Heracles
1:30 kapral Wojtek!
I can’t believe that a Swedish king died after eating 14 cinnamon rolls.
So the limit is 13

9:52 No they didn't, his name was Heracles in Greek mythology. Hercules is his Roman counterpart
Been looking for someone to correct this😭
9:55 My name is Jason, but with a y so, Jayson.
So the limit is 13 cinnamon buns. Good to know.
Ah, but first he had eaten an undisclosed amount of smoked herrings, caviar, lobster, sauerkraut and boiled meat with turnips and champagne.
The desserts weren't cinnamon buns, but a pastry called "semla" wich is a wheat bun filled with almond paste and whipped cream, floating in a bowl of hot milk.
There are restaurants that serve Adolf Frederick's death menu if you want to try it out.
"Semla" is still a very popular pastry, and they are sold everywhere in February (beginning of lent).
0:10 no way they been beefing since day one
0:11 Bro doesn’t know about the BC portion of history 💀☠️
The Dracula threat is real be safe out there.😔✊🏻
11:03 Believe me, they knew. It looks like this is supposed to be Reginald Bunthorne, a character created by the musical-comedy duo Gilbert and Sullivan. Bunthorne was almost certainly based on Oscar Wilde, the gayest man in Britain (and second-gayest in America), and is one of the only characters in a Gilbert and Sullivan musical not to end up married.
So many people think life is Netflix
So the limit is 13
Bro could hide the shock in his voice at the Pablo Escobar one
4:44 why does the Japanese archer look so seductive

8:07 July and August were not added, they were renamed, they used to be named Quintilis and Sextilis. The calendar used to have 10 months until January and February were added, which, iirc, was before Rome was a republic. However, instead of March having gone directly after December, there just weren't any months where January and February are; calendars are usually invented for agriculture and there wasn't much agriculture to do in that time
"Romeo and Juliet 2" looks like the Star War sequel trilogy.
