- A rare case of 'anti-N-methyl-D-aspartic acid-receptor (it affects one in 10 lakh people hence a very rate disease) was successfully carried out by our Consultant Neurologist - Dr. Ashish Bagdi on a 13 years old girl child.
Patient came to us with complaints of Headache, Abnormal behaviour, recurrent seizures, and later was comatose
Dr. Ashish and team treated her with Antiepileptics, ivig, plasmapharesis and rituximab as per the diagnosis & she remained in ICU from 18th Dec-2nd Feb in a very serious condition.
The girl is now in a stable condition, started talking and under constant supervision.

It's a very challenging disease but treatable if diagnosed early......Search for tumor that contains neuron tissues in the body is crucial followed by its removal if detected , Plasma Pheresis,IV Ig, Steroid (Methyl Prednisolone),Rituximab,Antiepilectics , Rehabilitation can dramatically change the disease process.... Patient recovers within weeks to months depending upon the mode and speed of medical interventions....Full recovery is the rule in a well equipped experienced medical set up .
Any search for ectopic tumors that contains neuron tissues like teratoma in ovary/testes,mediastinum,post abdominal wall or elsewhere in the body is mandatory and if found must be extracted out.... this may give a radical treatment for life and prevent further recurrence

Sir आभाजी पुरी तरहसे ठीक हुई क्या?.. मेरे भांजे को भी ढाई साल पहले ये बीमारी हुई थी। पहले से काफी बेहतर हैं। पढ़ाई भी करता है। लेकिन फिरसे उसको attacks आए। कितने दिन लगेंगे पूरी तरह से ठीक होने में? वो भी 14का ही था । अचानक उल्टी हुई और तबियत खराब हुई।

Namaste Sir. I'm Santosh from Andhra Pradesh. My son had NMDA encephalitis in 2014, he was 4 and half year old. I admitted him in Vellore CMC Hospitals. They diagnosed him NMDA Encephalitis sir. He went to induced coma. They given steriods, ivig immunoglobulin, rituximab. After waking up from coma he forgets everything sir. Before this disease he is very active. He completed his LKG also. Upto now he is not recognising anything. He totally forgotten everything.After treatment I joined him in Medical rehab in Bhagayam, Vellore. But he is not like before. What can I do sir. मेरी wife 25 दिन से हॉस्पिटल मे है, 23 साल की है, बोहोत फिट थी लेकीन एक दिन बुखार आ गया 4 दिन बाद रात को सर दर्द हुआ फिर सुबह को उठी 2मिनिटं मुजसे बात की अगले मिनटं को झटका आ गया और हम सब को एकदम से भूल गयी, फिर सिधे icu में भर्ती कराया, 3दिन बाद बोहोत झटके आणे लगे 20दिन तक झटके आते रहे, NMDA, BIO FIRE, सब NEGATIVE रिपोर्ट आये, ANA पोसिटीव्ह आया But ANA BLOT Normal POSITIVE था, Dr भी थक गये finaly IV IG के इंजेक्शन लगाई, झटके तो रुख गये लेकीन फिर भी वह normal नही है, इलाज जारी है
