@JonGon Productions That's true. Egon did the right thing to physically attack Peck when Peck put the blame on the Ghostbusters that they were responsible for shutting down the containment grid causing the explosion even after they warned Peck not to have it shut down. Not only that, Peck framed the Ghostbusters to the mayor where Peck said that they caused the explosion.

Don't waste your energy lecturing me

And second criticizing a movie character can be very therapeutic
      certain villianous movie characters

Egon and Janine started conversing more by this point
      esp when Janine expresses
concern about Louis. Then she hugs him and he cautiously embraces her. I've watched
this movie numerous times on 3 different formats, but rarely noticed Egon running
      out while holding Janine's hand.
I wonder if even he knew what all would happen if the power grid was shut down,
besides the ghosts escaping. Between those laser like streams and the explosion
coming out the main entrance, followed by a few other manifestations, from
a paranormal perspective, this was rather catastrophic!

I still think to this day that Peck didn't have anything in that file he showed Janine, so technically he had no right to issue a warrant banning use of nuclear devices and public utilities. He just wanted to get back at Peter for denying him access to the storage facility, even though it was probably for Peck's own safety. Peck would've at least needed a court order allowing him to enter the private residence, in which case Egon stated, and the court would've needed proof or evidence of probable cause in order to ban further use of nuclear devices and public utilities. Those things Peck did not have.

I am amazed at all the little nuances I still pick up. At 3:55, Egon is clearly on a mission to find the Keymaster. His level of restrained anger/ terror at realizing what can happen was made apparent by "shit". Egon is now focused on fixing this problem. But at 3:55 he is stopped by the idiot that caused this disaster in the making, and now this idiot is compounding the problem. This causes Egon to lose his focus on the problem at hand his anger was unleashed on the appropriate party.
Thank you Mr. Ramis for making Egon an action intellectual.

From what I understand, according to Ivan Reitman himself, the EPA man Walter Peck being the film’s antagonist was in line with Reagan Era notions of Deregulation. This scene in particular bolsters the idea that organizations like the EPA are staffed with power tripping, bumbling-crusaders who make things worse as a hinderance to business owners. Very 1980s.

    • @Marbles471
      @Marbles471 Рік тому

I love this movie but that aspect of it is pretty gross. Those kinds of anti-EPA attitudes are so often successfully utilized to enable boundless greed and endanger the environment and public health. Peck was a petty, power-tripping dickbag who way overstepped the bounds of what his job was, but the broader implications about deregulation leave a bad taste.

Also in the original script, there was supposed to be monitor that allowed them to see inside the storage facility where they could see all the ghosts inside, floating around, leaning against the wall and hanging from the ceiling. It was supposed to be like seeing a bunch of ghosts roaming a giant prison cell.
All the ghosts are behind that wall. If you look closely, you'll see a red door in the wall with a yellow sign above it. It's supposed to be the way into the storage facility. In the original script, Peck orders Egon to turn off the containment system so he can enter it to see what's inside. Egon turns on the monitor screen and tells Peck that he can see what inside through monitor if he wishes but Peck ignores the screen and says that he's not interested in tv right now. IDIOT!
There are high voltage laser beams containing the ghosts behind that wall, keeping them from escaping but there's also a lot of spiritual energy back there, too. If the laser beams are shut off, all that energy is released at once, causing an explosion.

Janine was a great character, she was funny, she was whitty, and snarky. She had a strong personality which I think represented a stronger female roll. While I would never see the new ghostbusters movie cuz I refuse to give Sony a penny of my money for shameless remakes, I've heard from everyone who has seen the movie that Chris Hemsworth plays a total moron who isn't funny at all. In fact I've heard that basically every male character is either a moron, incompetent, or an asshole. What is Paul Feig trying to say exactly?

The two female characters in this movie were great in their own ways without relying on stereotypes

In all honesty, the idea of a business catching and storing ghosts would sound ludacris in our reality. Sp Peck's suspicions of the Ghostbusters storing unregulared, potentially dangerous materials is not all too far-fetched. Amazing that people today believe in angels yet ghosts are thought to be a fantasy. Even among Christians!
