Stand up. I’m a 30 year master cabinet and furniture maker. Retired now and have a small shop. But if I had opportunity to own a cnc, you darn right I would. Having high tech equipment does not make you less of a woodworker. I think it makes you a well rounded woodworker who can adapt with technological changes in the industry
agreed, BUT. If someone off the street starts learning woodworking after they bought all the fanciest accoutrements that basically does the job for them.. well I'd say thats cheating.
I love bowties! They show that the craftsman took extra time and care with the patching. And to have them on the underside of the desk makes it double the goodness. Those are patches that will last the life of the desktop. It's a wonderful build.
The author does like to from scratch, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
As I watch your videos I think to myself, " This guy reminds me of my mentors in the Marine Corps" and then there it is. Semper Fi! I like your woodwork.
Stand up. The contrast of the tambour door and the entire desk is beautiful. Looking forward for your next build. That Bob Ross sitting nicely on your jointer at 16:22 was a cute easter egg.
It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.
I own the same CnC as you, with the same power issue as you. I love that you use it in your work flow as you are one of the only builders I get to watch that uses it regularly as part of their work flow. Keep making content with it included, please and thank you.
The tambour door with continuous grain is beautiful. I'm not the biggest fan of standup desks, but I can see how people far less lazy then I am would like them. As for bowties, I have always liked them. 👍
Stand up 👍🏻 Having to build a large desk I'm more than happy to see different ideas (and I do love your channel, so I got that going for me). Awesome work!
I have watched this video twice and I deeply appreciate the details you give us as you work the build. I’m not a fan of bow ties however, the grain match was great for your project. Thanks!
Such an incredible build Jonny ! The wood and your choices with bow ties are amazing. I am not a woodworker; however, I am a mixed-media artist and sincerely appreciate all that you do in your work. I had no idea that one could create artistry in wood the way that you do. It is nice to know that there are woodworkers in the world like you that can do with wood what others have told me couldn’t be done. I know that technology helps it along, but it takes the Artist in you to see what is possible and then create it ! My hat is off to you and your amazing work ! 🙏
Stand up I love this desk it is gorgeous. I don't mind bow ties as long as not over done. Putting them on the underside adds stability and strength to it. The one thing that I'm not crazy about is the crack on the top left open to collect dust and grime.
This desk is beautiful! One of my favorite builds I have seen you do. As for bowties I used to hate them with a passion, but I have slowly come around and I actually love the way they look when done right. 👍Looking forward to seeing what you build next!
If you're using that jig to cut the bowtie inlays, you can always cut the bowtie with the CNC and have it round the corners to match the router bit. It'll avoid the extra chisel work to clean up the corners.
A woodworker who uses the tools he has access to is a smart woodworker. That said I personally do like to see what people can do when they limit themselves, like making a build with only hand tools for example.
Jonny there’s not one of your videos that i have yet to be disappointed with and to be honest i dont think you ever will disappoint. Your work is absolutely amazing. I wish i could afford to do this type of work cause videos like your inspire me. I dont have nice tools like yours but i think i could make something nice with what i have just cant afford the wood especially since i have three boys that all play sports. What i would do to live close to you to try and purchase your scraps. I tried with 2 wood workers that live close to me and they pretty much told me to go buy my own from a wood yard. I was just hoping they would sell me their scraps for a little cheaper then the supply yard but was discouraged after that. Anyway sorry for insanely long comment. Let’s all STAND UP to Jonny builds for not disappointing yet again.
There were two way you could have still used the off cut as the top of the monitor stand. You could have filled the messed up rout with epoxy or other wood and recut it. Or you could have milled it down to 1/4" or less and used it as a veneer on the top. It still looks good with those other boards but it isn't quite as nice as it would have been. As far as bow ties go I don't mind them as long as they are not over used. Since that is an epoxy table I would have only used one bow tie on the larger cracks then filled the gap with epoxy so the whole top is solid and free of voids.
your electrician is verry bad at it if he tells you that you don't have 3 phases Y because Y or delta is just a way to use wire with 3 phases. it's just the diffference in tension between 2 phases or between a phase and the neutral.
Semper Fi fellow Devil (8yrs, '99-'07),... love your content and creativity. Easy to follow but still full of knowledge, with a dab of humor. This just works. That is all, nuff said! Yuuuut, kill, and all that moto, lol! And oh yes, I almost forgot,......BOWTIES YES👍👍👍👍
Bow Ties 👍 They remind me of quilting! I know quilters who have used wood inlay designs for quilts. I know wood workers who have used quilt designs to create wood inlays. It's fabulous.
That is so weird that they didn't know the slab was back there. Like you would think they would keep track of all the wood they have. Glad you found it though and the build turned out so beautiful.
stand up!!! end result looks great! a desk like this with the adjustable legs for sitting and/or standing would be perfect for when working on my crafts. Maybe one day I can afford one.
Wow, I'm really impressed by your work. I like it. It remembers me to my grandpa who was a cabinetmaker. And he made all the furniture for his and my grandma's apartment by himselfs.
BOWTIES👍👍👍👍All Purple heart bowties would have been lovely for this ! But it's gorgeous either way ❤ I love patchwork too. Especially when the patches have a lot of figure.
Bowties 👍, Anyone that gives negative comments about your CNC Machine is just jealous because they do not have one of their own. It really opens up how creative you can be with your builds and gives them that little extra that all without one are missing. "stand up"
Bowties 👍 I like em. I agree, they draw your eye, so its important they look good. I like the artistic approach you used with the different sizes. I think I like when its kept subtle, using matching wood. I've seen you use contrasting wood for them before, and I havent liked them as much in those builds. but thats just my personal taste :) stand up job on the desk in this one!
I am new to your channel and just getting started with woodworking. Like you, I would like to do this full time (my retirement plan). I love all your tools and hope to have them and space to use them one day. It would be helpful to me if you did a video making nice furniture using only basic supplies (table saw, miter saw, etc). I’d like to see how to to do without cdc. Thank you for putting these videos out here. Your voice over is excellent and you do a good job explaining what your are doing and why. I subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your work. P.S. Stand up
All or nothing.....I LOVE the patch-work, awesome wabi-sabi IMO! Could you have ripped the pupleheart to the desired width, cut your stitches to the desired length, then rounded the edges on the sander? I know it would have been a little more time, I just wanted to put it out there if you wanted to use the same kind of stitches on a future project.
Awesome project, looks amazing. L on that single motor standing desk frame though, you’ll end up replacing it sooner than you would like. Definitely go dual motor next time
Stand up! Love the outcome of the table! Bow ties 👍 I prefer contrasting woods. Was that a Bob Ross sticker at 16:20? Seemed to prominent to be a sticker is why I ask.
Stand up! This is a thing of beauty! So glad it won't be sitting in your shop office haha! I have no idea what an Easter egg is. My kids have tried to explain it to me twice. Hope someone gets it! Great build!
Time is money and it seems the CNC really saves a lot of time. Beyond that knowing how to program and set up a CNC is a skill in and of itself. That being said it never hurts to challenge yourself and expand your skill set.

Facts! I’d love one. A master uses tool to be more effective in the craft.
“Just cause you have a hammer doesn’t mean you know how to swing it”
agreed, BUT. If someone off the street starts learning woodworking after they bought all the fanciest accoutrements that basically does the job for them.. well I'd say thats cheating.
Naw, it means you don't have an entire subset of wood working skills because you depend on machinery to do it for you!
@@GrampiesCornerno it means they can save themselves time and have a higher quality result due to modern materials
@@GrampiesCorner hey joe, why dont you show us how skillful you are. What have you ever made other than a turd? Why dont you go stand with ukraine.

No bowties on the top, only pol. The little gold hammer is cute! Purple heart is soooo pretty! Love your work!!!

Walnut is such a gorgeous wood and the Rubio monocoat lifts it to heaven.
Why limit yourself. Use the tools you own!
I agree with this statement
Me too
A woodworker who uses the tools he has access to is a smart woodworker. That said I personally do like to see what people can do when they limit themselves, like making a build with only hand tools for example.
This is exactly what I came to say.

Really beautiful outcome. So fun to watch your process.
Bow Ties 👍

Bow ties 👍 every time. I use them all the time and had no complaints.
Great job! Love the stand up. The Walnut is the best period! Even the tambour door was awesome. great job sir, keep it up! Beautiful!
Bowties are the best way, IMHO, to repair and strengthen. They also show, you took the time to inspect, identify and rectify any potential problems.
STAND UP desks are da bomb! Nice job.
That desk is 🔥!!! Great work Sir!
That is so weird that they didn't know the slab was back there. Like you would think they would keep track of all the wood they have. Glad you found it though and the build turned out so beautiful.
I absolutely love your work it amazes me how you always come up with a new project😊😊 and the black tail hammer at 12:50
Loved watching this project. Bow ties are definitely 👍. Well done. Paul from the uk 🇬🇧
Great job, lots of teaching moments for peeps!

Hey Jonny, nice to see you using a blacktail hammer at 12:50. Would have got one myself, but I was too slow.
Stand up Bowties👍. The desk is beautiful. Enjoy your new workspace. Best of luck on your new adventure.

Beautiful Stand Up desk. That “waste” wood turned out amazing.

I LOVE the walnut, what a beautiful colour & the desk is gorgeous! Another fab build as always!!
Such a stand up job. I finally went in to Rockler today. So glad we have one now here in OKC.
Great desk; Thank you.

Stand up ..... Beautiful desk. And the new Rockler store is great. From Mustang, I visited it last week.
Great video. I am an young woodworker and every time I watch your videos you inspire me to continue to make thing. Once again great video.
I love the fact that you're using BlackTail N3 nano. its like my 2 bestie wood workers are being friends. much love dude

Stand up! A beautiful desk. And, as for bowties, they look great, even when you use them to patch a bad spot. Thank you!
Use whatever tools you have worked hard to purchase! I don’t mind the bow ties but I prefer them in a contrasting wood to make them stand out.
bow ties 👍!!!! they look great and give extra structural support.
Stand up, beautifully done!

Bow ties 👍 and thank you for your Service, Brother. Geaux Army! 🤣

BOWTIES👍👍👍👍All Purple heart bowties would have been lovely for this ! But it's gorgeous either way ❤
