Next time you have it apart, check for blade warp with a flat edge. The harder steel runs like Maxamet etc produced factory seconds due to warped blades.
@@doodysdaggersever so slight warp in my k390 endura wharnie makes it not centered. could likely be fixed with a carbide tipped hammer and a few gentle taps, but I haven't made one, and don't care that much.
If it’s your first time doing this, I HIGHLY recommend taping your knife blade before starting. This is going to prevent you from mangling your hand up!!
Are you sure the pivot is fully seated on the captive side since you laid that scale on last? I usually start reassembly on that side to make sure. 🤷♂️
Good video and thinking of doing the same. Did you really have to fully disassemble? Could you just remove the scale and liner from one side and then put on the new one? Flip over and do the other?
It has to come totally apart I think. But you could try doing one side then the other! I think because it’s a captured pivot it has to come all the way apart
My manix was the same way, what I did to solve the issue was to hold the knife blade up, tip towards me in the closed position, push the blade to the right with the left thumb near the tip holding it through out the whole process, loosen all the screws in a counter clockwise direction starting with the bottom right side screw keeping pressure on the blade...now tighten the screws in the same counter clockwise direction...repeat this again while still maintaining pressure on the blade. What this does is aligns the pivot with the tip of the blade by slightly shifting the scales. If this does not work then the blade is truly bent. Hope this helps Kevin.
I’ve tried that. I’ve tried literally everything. Scoured the internet for answers and tried everything I could find. It’s gotta be the blade is slightly warped, that’s the only thing I can thing of at this point. I just let it go. Haha 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks buddy!
@@doodysdaggersMy cruwear blade has never been centered, so I'm not expecting miracles when I get my scales tomorrow! But if your blade was centered with your old scales, then you'd think it would be possible. I guess the liners probably allow for more adjustment.
Those are nice scales, but I'm on the fence if I want aluminum. Love the color. Not sure if this works on Spyderco, but keeping the body screws loose until you tighten the pivot has worked for me on other knives to get a better center.
The aluminum feels great to me, but some people prefer micarta or something else. I have tried all kinds of tightening combinations, nothing works. I think it’s the blade itself that’s bent
Bro we are brothers from another mother. 😂 I just also got Awt manix2 scales. Got the violet purple to go with my black blade. They are so damn good I want some for my para 3. Very nice! That’s weird yours doesn’t rattle. You got the stock plastic ball cage in there? But yeah aside from that I love these scales. The action improved drastically!
@@doodysdaggers no I bought a flytanium aluminum cage. I did have a little grittyness and took it back apart and polished the touch points where the cage rides and polished the washers and it is smooth as butter.
Morning Dood! When I hit my washers I did it on a ceramic plate instead of a strop. It seemed to work well but I think I’ve only seen one person do it like that. Is the strop a better idea for washers than ceramic?
Yeah it did work. It was slightly warped near the tip. I just took it very slowly. It was an S30V PM2. I wouldn’t take the same chance with a rare 15v manix though!
Thanks for the video. Quick question... what brand cork work mat? I like it. Also comment... like you ran into here, i have found the hardest part of reassembly is that it always takes me awhile to play around and get all the torqueing correct. Kind of like doing scope rings and how easy it is to throw off a point of aim. When i did this the first couple of times, i would loosen up those pivot screws and then be bummed by the screws being loose. Then it dawned on me, duh, tighten the back spacer screws to put more tension on the front. Same thing with centering. I realized that of it was off to the right, i had to tighten it to the right. Its like a mini lesson in geometry and patience everytime i do this.
The mat is from a site called Tinkerforce. Really cheap and quality disassembly mats. Yes there is a lot of tinkering when it comes to getting a knife with good action and no blade play 😁

Nope it wasn’t a second. It’s gotta be the blade itself that’s tweaked. Hmm.. I supposed I could sell my liners and g10 scales. I’m trying to think if there’s any reason I would want them someday. I dunno, what’s a fair price?
