Sure was sorry to see him go. For so many many years he was the pinnacle of what a great musician should be. RIP

A Great guy!!! I played with him on an almost daily basis in Vegas. He played piano and I played tenor and we played his original tunes. Needless to say, I learned a lot! RIP Carl and thank you!

I met Carl when he played in Houston with Mike Vax Big Band. After the big band played, he then played with a quartet for a few hours. He was just amazing and quite the entertainer. He was humorous and very friendly to the audience. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I've been a fan ever since. Carl is as good as it gets.

Wow! That was an impressive solo. I have several albums with him playing fast and tasty but I didn't know he had a range like that. Wow!

Carl is amazing. We used to go watch him play with my dad Mo Scarazzo (bass player) at the Jazz in the Park concerts in Las Vegas back in the day.

i take exception to the previous comments. Carl has come to the Great Basin Jazz Camp the past 3 years and the kids love him. He interacts with the other musicians, all respect him. I would say these comments are ill-founded. He's a very down to heart, warm and generous person. I've NEVER seen him speak down to anyone; he's the 'real deal'

Having grown up with the man, I gotta say he's not afoul of people at all... he just doesn't suffer fools. As none of us should be made to.

Kenton alumni band -what a stupendous idea! Saw the band in the mid-seventies at the Frog and Nightgown in Raleigh -small club with outstanding acoustics -best musical night of my life!

Some call him a show-off, others tell the truth. He just gets very exuberant, enjoying showing his skill and versatility - which is pretty well unequalled anywhere on Earth. Arturo is up there with him, A duet of that pair with the Vax orch would be something else.

Stan Kenton used to record around the corner from My Grandparents' N Bronson Ave 1922 home at Capitol Melrose at @5515 Melrose Ave, LA, Hollywood, as did Nat Cole & Sinatra, Peggy Lee & Keeley Smith, etc...

It's remarkable playing and a fine performance. I had the luck to say hello to Mike Vax in Sacramento ages ago, as he kept alive the best of big band traditions. Bravissimo!

Carl knows my feelings about him….I've expressed them to him face to face!
Uan Rasey requested one trumpet player, besides Wayne's band, to solo at his
88th birthday, and it was Carl!

What a great trumpet player -- I don't know how I did NOT know about him until Shirley Horn's number "Solitary Moon" -- he has played a long time with some of the best, and is still performing, as far as I know, though he must be about 75 now.

Played in Dick Wright's rehearsal band with Carl in the early 70's. Besides being a great trumpet player he was also a hell of a ping pong player! We had some awesome matches.

Met him after a Zig Kanstul Memorial concert. I started talking and he looked like he was going to tell me to puss off until I asked him a theory question about playing the blues. Spent probably 10 minutes going over what notes to use in a concert Bb blues scale.

Carl's kind of an intense guy. He's an amazing player but described by many as being kind of a prick. I met him once and I can see how people would say that about him. He's not a people person, but he is one hell of a trumpet player and I love listening to him play.

People here are accusing him of being a showoff, an egotist, a prick, and I ask you have you never met a trumpet player before? All you're doing is complimenting the guy. It's like the old joke, "how do 2 trumpet players greet each other? Hi, I'm better than you." Carl Saunders was born with amazing talent and has obviously developed it well. He deserves to be a prick.
