Contemplating to move coming next year !! Your Vlogs are perfect for people wanting genuine information about life in Canada along with some spice and humor to keep it interesting . I just want to clarify something you said about sunshine in Calgary…it’s not that the sun is really hotter, it’s that at our higher elevation the UV rays are more intense. Also, as the sunniest place in Canada (I think) we get more hours of sunshine on a yearly basis. So even though you might be freezing your a** off at -30 C, it’s very possible the sun will be shining brightly.

Nicely done!, you have given good details about living in Calgary like people and weather. However, when you say it's cheaper, then also note that the average salaries in Calgary are also lower than in Toronto or Vancouver. It's just like you earning less in CAD in India but able to afford similar amenities like housing and clothing as you would in any developed country while earning in CAD. So if the houses are cheaper it will take you same amount of time to be able to afford that house as much it would take you in Toronto.

My wife and I came to Calgary in 1997 from the maritimes when we were in our early and mid 30s. We arrived with no jobs enough money for damage deposit and first months rent. Our furniture was coming on a truck 10 days behind us. We found an apartment the next day and good jobs within 3 days. Now 25 years later. We own a beautiful home and are earning over 400k combined. Alberta has given us so many opportunities that I couldn’t begin to list them.

Calgarian here - summer is basically two months, the rest is a mixture of winter and fall conditions. It is VERY dry here. On average it's around 25%-35% humidity. I got serious acne because of it when i moved here. People who like consistent weather and 4 seasons won't like Calgary. Driving to the mountains takes over an hour which might not seem like a lot, but on the weekend the highway gets busy and slow. It can take up to two hours if there is an accident or construction. Night life in this city is basically non-existant, even before COVID. There are some nice bars and lounges, but nothing compared to Ontario. There is no music scene here. None. Anyone who thinks there is has never been to any other major city in this country. The city in general lacks culture. Our homeless and drug issue isn't as bad as other major cities, but it has been getting noticeably worse in the past 2 years. Our transit system is a joke. Due to urban sprawl, there isnt enough demand for transit so it doesnt get funded. If you move here and live outside of downtown, you'll likely want to buy a car. Yes housing is cheaper, but is having a cheap house worth all the downsides of this city? In my opinion, no.

That were the pros. Really impressive.
I am an immigrant as well and I'll share my perspective.
    1. Winters are long and really depressing in Calgary and are really hard to survive especially for someone who's from Indian subcontinent given the high extent of dropping temperatures due to proximity to the Rocky Mountains.
    2. The weather changes can be really capricious at times with the temperatures dropping to -30 and rising to 25 degrees centigrade on the same day.
    3. An immigrant/outsider looks at job as the first choice. The job market of Calgary is not as good as of some of the other cities like Vancouver and Toronto, especially the IT sector.
    4. Public transit is poor in Calgary in terms of radius and frequency.
Suggestion: Please take some time out in the winters and spend some time in Calgary and then make another video of your experience so that the immigrants can get the true picture and can make their decisions wisely.
    Wish you best!

Nobody can take your passport here. The only person who needs to touch your passport in Canada is the immigration officer at the airport when you land. I can’t speak to your other concerns, but you can rest easy on this point. If any employer asks to keep it, that’s a big red flag, and basically theft. You could call the police in that case.
