  • A preview of the concept of "culture" as used by anthropologists. Humans are born with the least instincts for survival. Almost all that we know and do we learn. That stuff which we learn and share is culture. Most of it we also take for granted. And that's where anthropology comes in. Anthropologists study this learnt, shared, and assumed stuff; stuff which we call culture. The process of teaching and learning culture is "enculturation" or "socialization".
About me: I'm Nick Herriman, author of The Entangled State and Witch-hunt and Conspiracy. In the "25 Concepts in Anthropology" series, I preview what I think are the 25 most important concepts in socio-cultural anthropology. Each concept provides a unique insight into what it is to be human. I am also the 'Audible Anthropologist' on iTunesU.

knowing what you just taught, a death of a culture is a prerequisite for a death of a people? Im not trying to confuse this with a natural cultural evolution of a people that changes on conditions and environment, innovations, etc, but imposed culture from outsiders that lead to the conditions of death or subjugation. Could we further extrapolate from that this negation and attack on western civilization or western culture with the idea of "cultural relativism" as a basis for cultural warfare?

Is it weird that my anthropology professor had only two assignments worth 20 points, with small in class 10 pt assignments every class and 10 pt online quizzes once a week? We have not even had an exam or test besides the one I have today which is our final an worth only 75 points. I've learned nothing in my cultural anthropolgy class besides social injustices, the agenda of this class is trying to merge anthropolgy with social injustice and turn students into social justice warriors and it's bullshit, I wanna learn about other cultures not the history of how women have been put down in every culture
