I have not heard this recording for at least 35 years. It was released by (I think) Phillips on CD, which my local library had and I heard then. As my first hearing of Winterreise, it holds a special place. Thank you, internet stranger, for sharing this.

If you like this video live performance in the Pushkin Museum 1989 you will all the more like the audio of the Winterreise live performance of the two in the Semper opera 1985, published many times by Decca in "Legendary Recordings". Even 1985, Schreiers voice was noticeably aged, but at the day of the 1989 video he was really having severe problems with his voice. I watched this on the ZDF television about 1990 together with professional singers and we were truely shocked by Schreiers failure moments in the performace. If you had the pleasure to know Sviatoslav personally, you can also clearly see, how unhappy he was that he had to continue this filmed performance. So please compare it with the live audio recording with the voice four years younger, and judge yourself.
