    We had the outlets to shine light on what was worthy. Rap City, Midnight Love, 106&Park all were outlets that we used to put the world on notice about certain artists. We just need platforms like that.

      The issue is there's a very thin line between spotlights and gate keeping. Leaning too much into gate keeping made every person with a podcast and some fans the new "Peoples Outlet". That splintered and to be honest most of us can't keep up... anybody can get into it means there's SOOO many choices and not one source like MTV (HUGE GATE KEEPER) or 106& Park... which I really miss.

      Classics don't grow on trees. Take a look at Billboard. They have decades of data of the hits of the time. The vast majority of the list has gone to the wayside. This isn't new. Once again, plenty of new music will stand the test of time. Whether or not you specifically like it or if you're too lazy to find that music, what I said is true.

And since RNB is a one of the superior music genres along with Rock (the type with real guitar and instruments). That makes him one of the best artist in general, of all time I dare say.

      He sounds like an old-head elitist. People were paying their way to be noticed in the industry even then. It’s always been about popularity and abusing those less fortunate. J. Lo was not a talented singer. TLC was taken advantage of. You were lucky if you had a long prosperous career. He sounds like he’s unhappy his popularity/talent card got declined. It happens to everyone at some point. He could be fostering the next group of talented musicians. But he’s really only concerned about himself. That’s not new to people in the industry either.

    The listening experience has changed. I remember listening to my favorite albums for months on end, years even, on my MP3 player, soaking in the meaning and the vibe of high quality studio albums that never aged. Back then, when music listening was more intentional, the albums you purchased were special, and you could appreciate them endlessly. These days, everyone's a musician, and the excitement tends to be short-lived.

    This is what makes artist strive to produce quality music. It is the expectation of hearing true talent that causes a singer to do their best.     There are so many artists who belong in the club but dont have the resources/network/capital/industry backing to get in. Or even be heard for that matter. Market is oversaturated and the masses are amused by very little anymore. There are few truly GREAT artists in the current music landscape.

      Ditto. Last physical album I bought was Yellowcard Lights and Sounds. But even then, I'd been making MP3 CDs from downloads for about 3 years. Using Ares. So then I moved to USB MP3 player by Creative and I never bought music again until I started paying for premium Spotify in 2017
