"An army marches on its stomach" - Napoleon.
"Amateurs talk stategy. Professional talk logistics" - General Omar Bradley.
Also "Armies win battles, logistics win wars".
This genre of "They kicked me out from the group or kingdom, then their group or kingdom fall apart" felt like a reflection of many companies who fired their long time loyal employees to save money and the company immediately falling apart because said company done things that make the company run smoothly.
yup like one real company they fire computer maintainence guy and within one week company collasped lol
Hey IT! Why am I even paying you? Everything works anyway!
Hey IT! Why am I even paying you!? Nothing works!
Eternal struggle of misunderstood positions. Same goes for Project Managers: you learn about their importance only when there is a switch from competent one to incompetent one, or the other way around, otherwise 90% of employees consider it 'just another high-salary useless dork".
Also your comment kind of clicked something in my brain - comparing kingdoms to companies is really a common trope. And MC defecting to Demon Lord(ette) usually is an equivalent of switching to competent boss who cares for employees. NOW I CAN'T UNSEE IT! :D
I get that very few mangakas would know how European style kingdoms would function... But just how many of them experienced working in black companies?!
Edit: Now I recalled there is a literal manga series in which Demon lord specifically isekais a PM... AND GOES THROUGH HIS RESUME POINTING OUT HOW GOOD HE IS.
I’m just impressed how all of these competent protagonists keep winding up under the thumb of pretentious mongoloids who throw them away after somehow not understanding what the protagonist brings to the table despite directly benefiting from their skills.
Then There is ALWAYS the one guy who understands what an amazing unicorn tier outlier the MC is but is ignored.
Namely Apple, Panasonic, Phillips, and so on...
I know right
Love how the prince hears about this and just goes "are you mental?! Get him back or lose your head, now!" The prince actually knows his stuff and knows the role someone like the mc plays, so he tries to fix it quickly before the problem of food shortages arises. Looks like he aint the prince for nothing.

So, a story like this is much liked.

- A lesson this kingdom will no doubt be learning the hard way after firing the Norman Borlag of Alchemists.

@@swordsnspearguy5945 I've seen it attributed to Napoleon, but the actual quote may be older than that.

Finally! Finally a royal who isn't _MASSIVELY_ incompetent. The prince isn't only a competent leader but actually knows who his capable subordinates are.
Looks like a good leader is sitting on the throne. An anime where this kind of story of an MC being thrown out has been running rampant for a while, it’s good to see a genuinely logical and smart character being present on the side of those who fired the MC
Shield Hero does have a competent royal, but they were unfortunately away and the job was left to an idiot.
@@richardquinata76actually she left someone else in charge then they died during the first wave
He is incompetent. The person in charge of his "Savior of the empire" is an incompetent idiot that also fired the most important person in the empire. The fact that he didn't put someone else in charge, or at the very least informed the "management" on the value of these workers says it all.
Yeah like literally I am watching this manga all because of that 😂😂😂😂😂
Definition of "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"
Quite literally.
Can't work on an empty stomach, so nice going head alchemist. 🤦♂️
More literally than the prince would like to admit and or teach the chief reporter
Some people learn that lesson the hard way.
I like this prince: Get back the alchemist, or you will lose the head.
And it was the appropriate reaction let's be honest if you had a man like him who could endlessly grow food even in the most depleted of soil you would have a endless amount of food to feed a constantly expanding empire it's no reason why the prince was mad
(Soon to be replaced) Lead Alchemist: I fired him for not working on magical weapons!
(Actually intelligent) Prince: Are you an Idiot?!?! Logistics is the backbone of everything, and you just fired the guy responsible for solving our main issues!

that's pretty much like any War Logistics are extremely important without that you can't win Wars or battles. without stating Supply materials everything will grind to a halt
The official at the start is a fool. The loyalty of the people only goes as far as how full their bellies are. If they are starving while the army takes their food, then there would be rebellion in no time.
The official is obviously an enemy spy/traitor who found the most important person they could actually fire and got rid of them. He wants to insight rebellion and choke out supply lines by having soliders remove food from the people by force and cut off logistics etc.
He's a "money man" type of manager. He doesn't understand the business he's in charge of, and thinks that his MBA that taught him that business is business and that the immediate bottom line controls reality rather than reflecting it. Thus, he gets rid of things that are necessary for the ongoing well-being of the company that create short-term appearance of bottom-line improvement. Cut the pay and resource consumption of this alchemist who isn't producing the one thing he sees as money-making, forgetting that money is not infinite and peasants aren't a limitless resource.
And even if his logic is sound,
He's ignoring the fact that seizing the food requires a manpower investment, manpower that is being allocated from the armed forces, aka frontline or support troops.
In contrast, extracting additional kcalories from each parcel of land with the same worker investment increases the ability of an army to sustain itself while not diminishing its combat potential. It isn't even resource optimization, it's crippling production of everything else for marginal increase in tool production.

Sounds like a Pro-Revenge/MaliciousCompliance story from Reddit.
Boss thinks key employee is useless and tells them so before firing them. Employee knows how bad things are if they are not there patching holes. Company collapses shortly after.
To be fair, it's a realistic trope for a reason.
Key staff are a known fault in business, typically because Key staff aren't paid well, but they handle work that no other staff can. They can't train replacements quickly, and their knowledge is either proprietary or has no extrinsic value, i.e. replacing them, means replacing the heart of the business.
A good example is Airline booking systems, which used an old mainframe from the 1960s that you have to enter text commands into to check flight status into. PARS and SABRE. Replacing it is a nightmare task because you have to change all the airlines using it at the same time, and flights don't stop. So those maintenance and coding staff are vital, and most of them passed away, their jobs are obsolete. But those computers still exist, even though SABRE is trying to move everything to Google, the mainframes still operate to handle global flight bookings despite the difficulties. The websites just hide that they're feeding everything into a virtual terminal instead of a keyboard and screen built in the 1970s.
Various alternatives to SABRE and GDS's now exist like Amadeus, Altea, Sabresonic, aircore, radixx, etc. which allow booking websites to get quotes from multiple airlines and book tickets. This seems obvious, but it took from 1965 to 2015 to get rid of the old mainframes and having to dial into a location to make seat allocations and bookings. Some companies still have the old terminals for emergencies as they still wire into phone lines if the internet is unavailable.
If you try to promote them, they aren't good at their new position, so they get fired, and now the company starts to stall.
Part of this is also tied to the way Enterprise works in Asia. Most social culture is still based heavily on village politics and respect for elders. But in turn, the village also maintains the group and the employees. These village systems also built homes and families for the workers, including slaves as pseudo-family workers, i.e. they were part of the company / household.
Not so much in the corporate / western philosophies. There's almost a fundamental social difference, i.e. disposable staff are a 'new' concept and there's often friction between the tradition and modernity.
The JP model of Village Corporation, i.e. everyone's part of a family is the Zaibatsu/ Keiretsu model which emphasises a clique. China has their State Owned Enterprise/qiye jituan 'conglomerates, while Korea has the Chaebol / Enterprises.
The people who end up in middle management aren't there to help the company, they're there to stay employed and make things efficient, from their POV.
Not every company can comprehend their 1% staff, usually because they fall through the cracks in reviews. So when a key employee is removed, it takes ~30 people to replace their job.

Yeah, I've seen this happen so many times that I can practically write a formula for it. The MC gets kicked out for (mostly dumb) XYZ turns out whatever the MC have is actually overpowered then saves a damsel in distress (mostly a slave) then the ones who kicked them out end up struggling without the MC, and either realize their mistake and want them back, or they don't and even blame the MC. Sometimes or most times they might even attack the MC only to get wrecked instantly. This is just the minimum of the formula, yet so many stories follow this pattern. Sometimes I just want to make my own manhwa or manga instead of waiting for one that breaks the formula. I know some stories have broken it, but they are so few and far between. Sorry, just venting a bit.

How can the country government not know he was the main source of food for the army?
Not only physical shipments occur, but warehousing and other factors are "in your face".
And the payments for the various stages would be notable.

That and didn't he claim the soldiers could just pillage to feed themselves. Logistics is more recent a development then most realize.
Look into russian collective farming. Real people are also that stupid.
I mean its sometimes the reality
I think what gets me is the, "if we need food then we'll take it by force," mentality. So many ways that can go wrong, whereas growing your own food generally doesn't come with any downsides.
@@sjmcc13 Pillaging is a modern government factor too. USA federal govt law spcifies that in national emergency, it is legal to confiscate private hoards of materiel of which specifically mentioned are food, water, medical supplies, fuel, weapons/ammunition, vehicles, and tools. A reasonable amount may be left behind. In no documented place is the reasonable amount left behind defined, but if storm emergencies are used as an example, a 2 week supply might be left as that has been a standard delivery amount for a facility. There hasn't been a SHTF event since the US Civil War, and in those 1860's times, pillaging was basically 100%. They had logistics, but might makes right. And if the people tried to hide something, then maybe their building would be burned down in spite to spoil any other hidden items before the soldiers left. So... if he was a "court"(royal) alchemist, wouldn't it require a COURT decision to remove him? Especially if he was favored by a prominent figure such as a prince. This whole thing reeks of poor logic for plot pandering.
It would make the head alchemist even worse in the "stupid manager" department, but it's possible that the instigation for firing Isagi was the Prince commenting too positively on the "lowly commoner's" research.
Alternatively, the Prince assumed his authority meant he could tell Isagi what he wanted done, and that nobody would question Isagi about it, so the head alchemist didn't know the Prince's interest. Isagi assumed the head alchemist was expressing the Prince's change of heart and didn't bring it up.
Or, thirdly, the Prince might've been interested and given an increase in research funds _without_ telling the head alchemist _why,_ which would be a failure of communication from the Prince.
most courts led by royals put lower nobles in charge of departments overseeing the commoners. Those lower nobles may get easily jealous or irritated and remove the commoners they don't like. Which is most likely what happened.

Honestly the real question about these cookie cutter mangas is about how many are because the CREATOR is this lazy? And how many have creators who WANTED to make things different but their publishers in Japan said, “NO! We are going to beat this dead horse named (Slow Life/Isekai/Revenge/Harem) archetype until it’s fucking GLUE!!!”?
It’s annoying how much power publishers can have over manga writers, even big ones. I have an example to show I’m not talking out of my ass, though it’s an old one, from the EARLY days of One Piece.
When One Piece was really started taking off, fans of the series wondered if Zoro was stronger than Luffy. The publishers took note of this and twisted Oda’s arm to make him pander to the fans by forcing him put Luffy and Zoro into a SERIOUS fight, instead of “merely” answering a Q&A about it.
Anyone know or remember early One Piece, Whiskey Peak? Town full of bounty hunters with a mountain-sized cactus in the background, but the “cactus” is just a mountain that’s covered with HUNDREDS gravestones because the bounty hunters will act like they LOVE pirates and party with them until the pirates drop their guard/pass out, and then jump them?
Yeah, the fight between Zoro and Luffy on that island is ONLY because Oda was forced to make them fight, which is why big fans of the series don’t like the Whiskey Peak chapters, because it swings into Luffy being WILDLY out of character.
First thing on AoE I do
