Want to thank you for your instruction young man. Im 74 and seldom hand out complements, but you are imaginative, resourceful and inventive. Love you videos.
Man, that's brilliant, I never would have thought to use a nut to align the feathers, so elegant but simple, and I even used to do model rocketry, some of the rigs for aligning fins was crazy complex, great job.
Thanks for posting these vids, my practice arrows were starting to get worn and I needed to get to the next level of fletching. Bought some turkey feathers and have built the tools as said here and will try out tomorrow. BTW: Hex nuts as guidelines is pure DIY guidelines.
Great idea man! I'm active duty Coast Guard. I had a store bought jig, but it got lost in one of my several moves. Don't really want to run out and spend more money on another one. I'll definitely have to try this.
Must agree with the choice of feathers over vanes & i must say all your vidoes are excellent, i hope you become successfull in your own business. Cheers from Aussie
Feathers are not only more forgiving when shot "off the shelf" but also more durable. Vanes are designed specifically to be shot off of raised rests, so they tend to tear at the lead when shot "off the shelf"
I have seen hex nuts that have set screws in them. It allows you to locate the nut to a specific point and tighten the set screw to hold it in place. You might find them in an industrial catalog. The sort of thing that a machinist might use. It would allow you to put your nut markers *exactly* where you want them.
What kind of nut or bolt would I use if I'm trying to 4 fletch my arrows? Awesome channel, by the way. Not sure how you're not one of the top suggestions in the YT archery community. Heavily underrated.
I prefer feathers because they are more forgiving, especially with bows shot off the hand or off a shelf. Feathers fold down and then spring back while vanes sort of get smashed out of the way and can cause the arrow to kick off a little bit. Feathers also help get an arrow out of paradox faster than vanes.
If one does not use fletching tape and just glue, you can modify the jig so that it does not have to be held in place by hand. Cut 4 flat pvc 1/4" wide strips 1 " long, put a 45% bend a 1/4" from 1 end on each. Use PVC cement to glue 3/4" part to the jig, 2 at each end opposite each other. Slip it over the shaft and hold in place with 2 rubber bands till glue dries. John Edgerton, Newark CA
What size wood shafts are you using. I can't find a dowel rod (i'm assuming that it what you are using) that fits the 3/8 nut? Either the dowels are to large to into the nut or way to small.
+Spectral DnB I really like fletching tape. Occasionally I will have a feather lift a little, but most press down fine. If not, I just peel the feather off, apply new tape, and put it back on. Thanks for watching!
Years ago, I had a fletching jig that had a feather burner/cutter built into it. It was just a piece of wire you could bend to your preferred shape then when you plug it in it gets hot and you just twirl the arrow and trim all your feathers that you have just glued to the shaft. Seems like these days you have to buy two different pieces of equipment.
hi my channel is southcoastdesignz and i hope you got the video i sent you i wanted to know if you like what i did because i followed your videos to make my first PVC pipe bow. i have my own pro recurve bow but it is too powerful to shoot in the back yard. so its very dangerous to shoot a pro recurve bow in the back yard. but anyway thank i love this bow!! i try and shoot as much as i can. i have only had it for about 2 weeks and i have all ready shot about 500 times. thanks for the video!
Thank you!!!!! I love the hex bolts!!! Genius!!!!! You have no idea how much I appreciate you. God bless!

That bolt idea is brilliant.
Yeah, except that wasn't a bolt... it was a nut.

Just become interested in making my own bow and would like to make my own arrows too. Have found your video very helpful. Thanks!

Love the simplicity. Thank you, this is very helpful and informative.
Dang, you're a really smart guy. These are some great tips. Thanks for the help!

Thank you bro I love your channel.

Have you ever tried using 2mm foam sold at craft stores for fletchings?
How does that fletching tape hold up? Do you lose fletchings often while shooting etc.

That sounds alot better than using adhesive to be honest. I'll give it a go, thanks!
You did it again man. Thank you
So for a 3/8" dowel I need a 3/8" nut?
That a great idea for laying out fletch..cool..
Do you have a link on how to make the white thing you're using to hold the feathers while attatching the tape?
Very clever. Cheers mate.
The suggestion of using nuts to find your line is great.
HOW DID YOU MAKE THE FEATHER HOLDER. CAN YOU MAKE A VIDEO ON IT
As with any video you find that says "part 2", there is a good chance the missing information is found in "part 1". Just saying.
Dude!!! Thankyou so much for your knowledge!!
Hey you rock your very awesome 😀 keep up your amazing videos 😀
I recommend marking one end of your feather clamp that way you won't apply a feather to your arrow wrong way round ( easy done)
Awsome instructional video, thanks man
What dowle size do you recommend to use for a 50lb bow?
Maybe I could try and heat/bend the PVC jig to form a slight helical? What do y'all think?
Where do you by your feathers?
Extraordinarios videos. Saludos desde México.
where did you get two sided tape that thin? or did u just cut it?
Where do you get the feather fletching?
