- There has been many updates since I recorded and posted this video. As mentioned in the video please do you research before you go to ensure you are within Mexico’s and The United States Travel guidelines.
In today’s video I’ll be sharing with you the Cancun travel restrictions we experience during our trip in May 2021. The most asked question I’ve been receiving is do you need a Covid test? With there being so many travel restrictions for travelers flying into the US it’s best to do your research and know before you go.

Here are the types of test accepted for traveler traveling by air
Air passengers are required to take a viral test (PCR/NAAT or antigen test for current infection) no more than three calendar days prior to their flight departure to the United States. Antibody tests are not compliant with the requirement.

As far as cash is concerned, how much per day could I expect to need? Cash is one thing but I wanna exchange for pesos ahead of time as I hear the ATM often run out or seem to malfunction. I just don't know how much to bring. Now obviously this varies, and I do spend a lot tbh.
Hi we stayed at an all inclusive so we didn’t spend much per day. Depending on where you are staying most hotels exchange cash on site. The exchange rate changes often and fees vary so you can totally exchange before arriving to Mexico. It’s really hard to provide a spending limit because our experience might be different from yours and other travels. We found that we only spent money on gifts as excursions, food, drinks were all booked through the resort. We tipped on USD as well if that helps at all.

I am going to Riviera Maya soon and I am unbelievably terrified to get a covid test. Is there a saliva option available for the tests or does it have to be through the nasal cavity?
For our test it was only nasal but I’ve taken the test here in the US and they nasal I might just depend on the testing site. You may want to call your hotel to confirm what kind of test they will be giving

Hi Ame yes you will still need a negative covid test to come back to the Us. We brought our vaccine cards just in case but no one ever asked to check it. I’d still recommend bringing it to be on the safe side. When is your trip? I hope you have a wonderful time 🤍
My sister and brother came back from cancun 3 days ago but took different airlines. My brother took the L.A.X and they had to take a covid test to come back and my sister went through Tijuana and they didn't have to.

@@Vasilj22 correct no testing required to get into Mexico you only need a negative test to come back to the US. A lot of people have asked about vaccine cards and honestly no one asked to check the vaccine card not even at the hotel so it’s optional to bring it if you have one. What time and day was your return flight? The airport looked super busy and quite crowded. Is it always this busy?
We flew out early afternoon on a Saturday and it was crowded. I think it is alway busy especially now with travel restrictions there is more to the check in/ ticketing process.
How much time before departure would you recommend at the airport in Cancun? 2-3hrs?
Highly recommend 2-3 hours. The airport was extremely busy when we went and they were checking documents so it took time. Always better to be early then late.
When I came back in April, I had to deal with kind of self check in machine. Had to be with the airline that I travel. The machine was very slow and not really working. Then the agent waved us over to process at the check in counter. I didn't see you had to deal with that step. They must have changed.

No test is required to enter Mexico. You will only need a test to return to the United States

Hi! I was wondering how much time you gave yourself before your flight back. For example my flight home will be at 12:30 pm, with all the procedures and car returning how much time frame should I allow myself to make my flight? Thank you for the info!
We didn’t have a rental so I would allow extra time for the return. We arrived about 2.5 hours b4 our flight. The shuttle scheduled our time slot for pick up so we didn’t have a choice.
Hi jenifer can i ask , can i use my green card instead of the passport. Because my passport was expired so if the green card doesn't work do you know how to renew the passport?

Hello what airline did you fly with? I am flying with Southwest and I am just trying to figure out all I need done before flying out and coming back.
Hi i flew American Airlines. Check the southwest website for the travel Restrictions to see if they require any specific documents.

That’s the sucky part is that things change all the time. I would suggest checking a few days b4 your flight to be sure you have the correct items needed to come home. The CDC website also has guidelines too that you can reference here’s the website

Hi awesome video! You mentioned an Immigration form and Custom Declaration form.. is that something I must print & fill out prior to the airport or is that something they will give us at the airport before boarding the flight?
Hi thank you so much for watching. The forms are given to you on the plane by the airline. If they run out on the plane then you can get them once you get to the airport. Bring you own pen since they don't hand those out on the plane :)

Im sorry I didn’t understand where did you get your FMM form, the airlines give you one?
Yes the airline gave it to us on the plane about 30 minutes before we landed in Mexico. If your airline does not do this you can grab the form in the Cancun airport
so every document i need to go to cancun and come back are:
Passport
ID
Immigration forms
Customs declaration
antigen tests (there and back)
did i miss anything????
If you have a vaccine card I would bring that just in case or make sure you have the QR code saved on your phone

We got our forms at the airport. They handed out paper copies. You can check the Cancun airport to see if they have an online version available
Does the QR code is the same as the white paper ? Cause they didn’t give me the white paper to fill out in Mexico City
Hi I am not sure if they are the same because when we went they handed out the immigration forms for you to declare goods and values if you purchased anything while visiting. It may have changed to QR since our trip. I would recommend calling your airline or airport to confirm.

I don’t believe the rapid test is accepted. per the Embassy website it states the following information below. When we got our testing it was the PCR/NAAT test. I would confirm with your airline and the resort should be able to confirm and help guide you in the right direction

I'm a UK citizens traveling to Cancun, when we travel back to the UK do we have to fill out a health froms
Hi John. I am not sure because we only flew back to the states. I would recommend checking your home state travel restrictions but if I had to guess I would say yes this form will be required
Thanks, I've just noticed there's a link on entry requirements to Mexico, it called Mexico vuela seguro. It a online form about health.You have to fill it out before traveling to Mexico, you get a QR code to show on arrival. Do you think this is the same thing and you have to do the same thing on the way back. Another thing you can only fill this form in the day before
When we went we didn’t use the link or have a QR code upon arriving to Cabo. This may be something new that was implemented within the last year. Are they charging you to fill this form out online?
No, but do you have pay $30 for the FMM Immigration From on arrival

You didn't mention the Mexico Visitax or Exit Tax ($11.00USD) which we were told was required. We all completed the online form, paid, and printed. Upon departure from Cancun at the check in counter, we were never asked for proof. Nor from Customs. Any idea what was up with that? Also, did you not have to complete for entry and exit the Risk Factor Questionnaire? Just to update your Vlog, this is a requirement as of September 30, 2021.
Hi Tony, when we went a few months back they didn’t tell us anything about the Visitax or Exit Tax. We weren’t asked for it at the airport either so I didn’t include that in the video. Things may have changed from this video post date until now. I’m not sure why it’s required but not checked at the airport. Did you see any signs or see others with it at the airport?

Do you have to be covid vaccinated to go to Cancun Mexico?
I would recommend checking the travel restrictions website for the most up to date information we went a few months back so things are definitely different now.

Hi Richard I’m not sure how that works as k have only used a passport to go in and out of Mexico. You may want to check the travel website for more information

When getting the covid test, do you have an option to get the antigen or naat test. In Canada, antigen test is not accepted. The ones accepted are pcr, rt-pcr, naat and lamp test.
Hi Raniel thank you for watching 😊 fir the covid testing it depends on where you will be returning. For us we came back to the US so the types of test that are excepted may be different from Canada. I would recommend checking your government website before your trip to ensure you are following the health guidelines so that are able to return home after your trip
what kind of transportation did you take to go to the hotel from the airport?
We booked our package through Costco and the company is called BD experience they have an app you can use to book all your transportation. I am not sure what pricing looks like since it was included in our Costco travel package. You can check on the app or online. There are many transportation onsite but I do recommend prebooking so you don’t waste time at the airport

Do you need a covid test to fly from the US to mexico?
When I went back in June there was no test required to fly into Mexico. Please check with your airline or the Cancun airport to confirm this information as things are constantly changing
Was a tourist card required on your trip?
The only thing I presented was my US passport. No other documents or cards were required but that may have changed since I was there
Do Planet Hollywood will charge you for the test?
I am from Germany and I know I need the test for the airline. Tia

You didn't say how much the covid test cost
Our covid test was complementary of the resort we stayed at. Most all inclusive packages include the COVID test. I’m not sure what pricing is if you do it offsite but if you are staying at a resort I’d recommend you call the resort to confirm pricing
Am I mistaken but, I do Not need a passport to travel fromNC to Cancun?? Just government I’d right?
Passport is required to travel internationally. For domestic flights within the US you can use government ID or passport

Please check the new travel requirements for visiting Cancun. This video was posted last year so a lot has changed :)
If your hotel doesn't have testing then where else can you get tested?
They have offsite testing I’m not sure how far they are away from the hotels. Your hotel should be able to giving you some guidance on where you can test 😊

Hi Weston, no they did not check or ask for it before I boarded my plane here in the states. In Mexico no one asked for it either. We brought ours just in case but never had to use it

You will need your USA passport and if you are fully vaccinated I would recommend bring your vaccine card.
We stayed at the plant Hollywood resort so we are onsite and didn’t leave. We did an excursion the food was included so I don’t have much info on restaurants. I have a planet Hollywood food,resort, & room tour posted on my channel check it out to see how the hotel looks 😊

Hi Jacob they gave us out forms on our flight about 30 minutes before we landed. If they don’t have them it don’t give them out you can grab one inside the Cancun airport once you get off the plane. Bring a pen too because there did not provide them

Hi Jasmine you can order ahead of time or exchange at the airport in Cancun. I believe the rates change daily and fee depends on where you are going to do the exchange. We did exchange but noticed at the hotel and even excursions many travelers tipped with USD. W

@@philboytano I don’t know what the weather is like so I would recommend you check weather online for those months. As far as spending it really depends on what you plan to do while you are in Mexico. If you book stuff through the hotel you can just charge it to your room.

@@lisae6330 you’re welcome. Our trip is in July too and to be on the safe side, I had to call the passport division to expedite ours. Just be ready for a long wait on the phone though, waited between 3 to 4 hrs and the fee is another $60. You can also check your passport status online. Hope this help.
Where to get the paper which should be filled out at the airport?
The immigration documents were given to us by the airlines before we arrived in Cancun. The health questionnaire is given to you at your plane ticket counter.
Hi, thanks for the video, but are you saying that we need a negative Covid test prior to leaving the US on our way to Cancun and another prior to leaving? What if you're staying less than 48 hr.? A weekend trip
Hi Sylvan no covid testing is required to enter Mexico. You will only need your passport and it’s not required but if you have your vaccine card I do recommend taking just in case.
To return back to the US you will need to provide a negative covid test at the airport. As long as your test does not exceed 3 days prior to your flight you will be fine. So In your case since you are there for only 48 hours you would need to test when you arrive or the next day the latest in order to get the results back in time for your returning flight. Our test took less than 24 hours to come back and the hotel scheduled everything for us as it was included in our all inclusive package. I’ve heard there are plenty of testing offsite but can’t confirm since we didn’t go that route. I hope this information helps please let me know if you have any questions. 😊

I am not sure you would have to confirm with your airline or airport. The 2 are different forms of documentation so I would recommend you doing some research so you have everything needed for international travel
72 hours equals 3 days.. ?
3 days means anytime within 3 days of your departing flight. 72 hours means you have to test exactly 72 hours before your flight time. No later or earlier it has to be 72 hours instead of the 3 day option which you can test a day or two before flight as long as you have a negative test before your flight back to the US you are good to go.
Hi great video! I will be flying to Cancun early next month but I will be walking through San Diego CBX and flying within Mexico to Cancun (playa del Carmen) and Cancun back to T.j. Do you know if a covid test is still required? Thank you in advance.
Also, if you filled out FMM form online did your complete residence address for, cause that is my only issue. Trying to save time and just go straight to immigration
@@Nicoleher11 Hi Nicole, I am not sure if you still need a covid test for land travel. I would recommend calling the airport in TJ to confirm so you can make sure you have everything you need to come back to the US. Sorry I couldn’t be more of help 😊
@@Nicoleher11 we filled out all our forms on the plane and they did ask us where we are staying when we arrived at the Cancun airport the customs and immigration process went by very fast. We had nothing to declare so they ask us anything else. It only took a long time when we left Mexico because so many people had no idea what to do and there wasn’t much help around the airport. Hopefully by the time you go things will be more smooth
No covid test is required if you cross through CBX on foot. Going or coming back into US. You will need to fill out the required Customs paperwork. Safe travels.
Hello using the cbx you do not need a COVID test . You do need the following and you can fill it all out online to speed up the process. I just went 2 months ago and going back in sept
Boarding pass
Cbx ticket
FMM card (tourist card) cbx website
Health questionnaire in place of COVID test. I found mine on volaris website
If you have all this filled out before hand you will zip by a ton of people filling it out at cbx before crossing bridge. Safe travels

Hello we did not have to provide any documents to enter Mexico all that is needed at immigration is your declaration document which is provide by your airline or you can pick it near customs. You will also need to present your passport. No other docs are required to enter Mexico
What did the test cost ?
It was included with our all inclusive package so I’m not sure the exact amount. Most hotels are offering them free onsite but I don’t know how much they cost elsewhere

Hi I am not sure how that works since we only flew to the US from Mexico. You may want to refer to the US embassy website and ask them.

Did you have to take a test leaving for cancun?
Hi Maria when we went there was no testing required to enter Mexico and they did not ask for our vaccine cards. The only time you will need a negative COVID test is to return back to the US

Hawaii has very specific travel restrictions. If you plan on traveling there I would advise you check out the state website for guidance

Hi I don’t have the link it was a little picture listed at the airport. We didn’t know about it until we got there but we just filled out the forms because it was easier at the moment. I would recommend checking the Cancun international airport website to find out if they have a link that will take you directly there.

Hi our hotel did both they swabbed the mouth and nose so I really think it depends on where you test at

You only need it to come back into the United States. No test is required to enter Mexico.

Hello yes you do still need to take the test within 3 days of your departing flight. On our trip we were never asked to provide proof of being vaccinated, we brought our cards but were never asked to see it

Do we have to have a physical copy of the covid results ?? I thought the email was good enough?
You can show your results on your phone but I would recommend asking for a paper copy just in case you have bad service and can’t connect to your email which is where the testing facility will send your results. Our testing site advised us to carry a paper copy as well they said just take it in case

How much was the COVID test?
The covid test was included in our all inclusive package so I’m not sure how much a test cost. I would recommend checking with your hotel to see how much they charge.

Hello I don’t think the test taken in the US will be valid in Mexico. You may have to retest in Mexico for it to be valid but I would recommend you call your airline or Cancun airport to confirm.
What about cruse lines ?
Travel restrictions vary for different countries and by means of travel. I would recommend getting in contact with your cruise line to learn more about travel requirements

I have a question im traveling on the 21 of this month do i need the vaccine 💉 🥶 im super nervous on going on vacation but i really need to go lol i already had covid but that happened in the beginning of the year so im not sure how this works 😪
To enter Mexico no vaccine or proof of negative test is required. You can just enter like normal (before COVID-19) to come back to the USA you will need to take a covid test and receive the results back in order to show that to your airline. They will not let you come back to the United States if no proof of a negative test is presented
@@JenniferTran I would recommend changing the video because these regulations have changed. A Covid test is now required to enter the Mexican republic. A 24 hour time frame for unvaccinated individuals and a 72 hour time frame for the fully vaccinated. For the partially vaccinated it’s a 48 hour period. Warm this to other travelers please!!!

No test is required to enter Mexico. You only need a test to exit and come back to the United States
How does with work with a 7yr child is traveling? were taking a last minute Christmas vacation to cancun any easy way i feel like im running to alot of mixed information with researching google

I don’t think that’s how it works. You have to be a guest of the resort but you should call to double check
When did we start having to get a passport to enter Mexico
Ive always had to to bring my passport when flying internationally. It may not apply if you are traveling by land but for flying the airline requires it when we book flights and when we go through immigration they ask for it too.
@@JenniferTran aww man that ruined my plans. I thought Mexico was one of the country where you could visit without passport for up to 180 days but you need one to return
I would recommend checking on the government website or even your airline but from my understanding we are required to present our passports

I am not 100% sure and would refer you to the US passport website to confirm before you book your flight/hotel.

Hi no we were not required to pay the tourism tax. It may have changed since we went at the end of May but no one in the airport asked us about it.
Hi the forms you mentioned in the beginning where do you get those?
We got ours on the airplane. You can also get them once you land but most airlines will hand them out so you can full out before you get off the plane

Is a truth that Mexico 🇲🇽 is charged us Americans $30 dollars 💵 to get in Cancun. Like a temporary visa, I’ve been see this a lot on tick took, they even charged same Americans Mexican at the airport, and if you refused to pay 💰 they won’t let you go .
I did not experience this we went the end of May and did not have to pay any fees. Things are constantly changing so this information may be true.

Will they accept a lateral flow test coming back into the US from Cancun?
Only Antigen and NAAT test are accepted but that can always change. For the most up to date requirements I would recommend double checking the CDC website.
I'm going to Cancun soon, can I make the appoinment for the covid19 to back to the USA at Cancun-airport? Do you know if there is any office there? because i am not staying in a hotel so i don't know where to do the appoinment. thanks
Hi I looked online and yes you can take the test at the airport for about $290 pesos. Here is the link check it out and call if needed. I believe you can find other testing locations in town as well but can confirm since we didn’t do that option. I hope the link helps 😊

what about the Visitax?
We were not asked about Visitax when we went. I have had other subscribers ask about this so I’m thinking it might be something new that is needed. My tip to all travelers is don’t pay for something if it’s not needed. I did not see any signs about the entry Tax so I didn’t pay it.

You can get the immigration documents on the airline or you can grab them as soon as you exit the plane and walk into immigration in the Cancun airport
Can we do the questionnaire online?
Hi Perla I believe you can. When we arrived at the airport it was so crowded and busy we didn’t know who to ask about the questionnaire so we waited in our airline ticketing line and when we got all the way to the front they had tiny QR code scanners at the ticketing counter. I would recommend checking with your airline to see if they allow you to do it online. Even if you have the questionnaire prefilled you still have to wait in line with your airline because they have to collect that information along with confirm your negative Covid test so I think maybe that’s why people just did it at the airport because they already waiting in line.
