    It’s great to hear that you’ve come from a customer service role and thriving in the police, as I’m in the same boat.

    Thanks for this Emily, has been really helpful! Did they cover much on the radios? I'm in the ambulance service, but want to be a special to help out on my days off, and just interested to see how in depth they go. Cheers :)

    • @Emiilylawrence
      @Emiilylawrence  2 роки тому +2

      No worries Sam! We only had 1 day on radios / airwave. We were taught about blackout spots and to be aware of them (basically very rare places that have zero signal, once these places are found, if I can remember, you were to report it so we could get it covered) , we were taught As you probably already know that if you hear a 00 call out then you basically all attend that officer as that means they’re in the shit and need backup. We were taught how to use call signs and how to respond / speak on radio, so did a few practical scenarios where the trainers set up a scene and you’d have to relay the info to control or other officers. We legit only had 1 day on it though. But it was good!

    I am 22 and I want to be a detective. I was able to get into university and I’m currently doing a foundation degree for public services and criminology. This special constable role I’ve applied to, I’m so nervous. Im only small but I haven’t let that dissuade me.
    If you could, do a video on the interview tips or possible questions and anything that might help someone’s first day on the ‘job’. This video has already done most of this, but a list would be so helpful. I know the hours are 16 a month, minimum.
    I loved hearing about your journey. Thank you!

      Hey! Hmm i am trying to dig some out of my brain! 🤣 advice as always is to be honest about what you do and don’t know. Be open about wanting to learn and show eagerness as every force always needs new and keen officers/specials. :)
      The force I volunteered for had a lot of competency based questions, eklekl440@hotmail.com is my email if you want to pop me a message I can reply with some scenario based questions and see what your answers are and see if I can help in any way with how to structure your answers ?

    Hi Emily,
    Just came across your video as I am considering the specials.
    My main question is how do the shifts work, i.e my availability, do we tell them when we're available or do they try and dictate when you work?
    Thanks! Subscribed 👍🏻

    • @Emiilylawrence
      @Emiilylawrence  2 роки тому +1

      Hey! Thanks for the sub Dave 👍👍👍 the force I volunteered for let me choose the days and hours I worked. I’m not sure if that is the same for each force, but we did have a minimum of 18 hours a month, which is quite a lot, but yes you could fit it in as and when it suited you :)

    Thanks Emily, for your very informative video, it was brilliant.
    Just one question, do you have any information on how to get into the Police without a Degree or Diploma?
    I have excellent GCSE’s and BTEC’s. I ALL A*-C (Or equivalent BTEC grade: Distinction* in IT which is the equivalent of 4 A* GCSE on the conversion chart).. PE BTEC and Maths where my worst, PE I got a Merit, which is equal to a C, and Maths, an actual C.
    Unfortunately, bad health issues in A Level times, meant I couldn’t pass, tried again a year afterward and still couldn’t get those A Levels I need for the future so I had to drop out again due to health reasons.
    This has been going on for seven years now and I really need to break the cycle. I need to get my confidence back up. Policing is something I’ve always been interested in, alongside Healthcare. Hence, my thought of volunteering as a Special Constable. Whilst I wouldn’t abandon the Police, It could be good practice for further job opportunities that pay too.
    So Emily, sorry for the long message. If you have any thoughts or ideas about it, please let me know, or, I don’t mind my situation being in any videos. My name is Stuart, I live in Milton Keynes, and my local force is Thames Valley Police, although Milton Keynes is right at the edge of the TVP boundary so we have many different police forces here around closely,, such as Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.
    Wishing you well and hope you’ll be staying safe out 🎉😮there.. If you have advice, please let me know. Thanking you again in advance.
    Kind Regards, Stuart Westley 😊 🚔 👮🏼‍♂️

    Self defence techniques should be more extensive, but a lot of the situations you can talk yourself out of (unless the other person is high on drugs or medication). Before I left as reg I had a crew mate, if we were crewed together it would be 100% that one of us would get assaulted…

    • @Emiilylawrence
      @Emiilylawrence  2 роки тому

      Very true I couldn’t agree more. A lot of the learning definitely starts when you’re out on shift, but it would do more for your confidence if we had more OST. As a special it’s less than if you were training as a regular, as far as I’m aware anyway after speaking with a mate. But you’re right. And that is also very true, relate that to call taking too. You could clear up an angry caller on the phone and prevent having to send officers if you know how to talk the talk, so to speak. Those were always my favourite calls in the call centre, have a right wanker on the phone and by the end of the call you’re best mates, hah.

    • @Frozenace88
      @Frozenace88 2 роки тому

      @@Emiilylawrence Often it's not the training, but the people you're with. Some of the regs came over from the Army, so if there's a scrap, those are the ones to be with.

    Hey, how did you prepare for the bleep test?

    • @tiffaraffi7749
      @tiffaraffi7749 Рік тому +1

      hey. i'm going for SC. i didn't pass the bleep test 2 weeks ago, but i was training to pass it this saturday. you need to do High Interval Intensity training. i was going to gym and ran on treadmill. every time i increased my time by 5 minutes of running. also higher speed. what you need to remember about the bleep test - always breath through mouth since you start. steady deep breaths through mouth in and out(not nose), also when you run to the line, don't turn, just put a leg on the line and run back (if that makes sense). also when your brain is saying you want to stop - just don't. push yourself. i did the bleep test today and reached my 5.4 !
      altho my brain said to stop at lvl 3 i kept going.
      also very important - have a good rest the day before,on breakfast (2h before) you can eat porridge, but 30 min before the test eat a banana.
      but most important - breathe! all way through and push yourself! keep pushing!
      your mind will always say you're done, but your body can keep running.
      also the best way to prepare for the bleep test is to do a practice bleep tests! there's an app on google play - "Uk police bleep test".
      go to a street or nearest park, measure 15m and try the bleep test. that really helps. good luck.

    Can you get employed by the police through a special constable role?

    • @Emiilylawrence
      @Emiilylawrence  2 роки тому

      Depends on the force I guess ? The force I worked for didnt, and still don’t. They keep changing the requirements to be able to apply for an officer. But I did always think they should employ from a special as you are already doing the job, just for free ! But sadly you still have to re sit exams, fitness tests, some forces you need a degree, etc
