This is pretty much the climax of both the game and the story. For a good portion of the game, you are led to believe that your enemies possess a Metal Gear. Only halfway across do you learn that the entire complex is a Metal Gear platform, and that Metal Gear stores 25 of the Rays you've seen so far. The endgame progresses so fast, you are literally thrown everything at the same time, culminating in the Ray fight. Good ol' Kojima... Make a fight tedious, long and also be sure to keep it to where you can't make many mistakes. He should have had a mode of Super Mecha Hardcore Extreme Mode where you fight 100 of these things, where its a one hit KO if you get hit. You unlock a Green wig afterwards that doesn't do anything.

I'm not complaining about Boss fights, I was complaining about how some parts on the MGS games turn out to be a firefight completely forgetting the stealth part of the game. Have you tried MGS4 bike chase aiming for a No-kill run? It is madness on wheels using only the Tranq pistol.
This fight is goddamn hard without the wig. Sure chaff makes it easy but when you run out that missile spam is coming for your ass. And god help when you run out of ammo and your running around waiting ammo to respawn.
@mattaddison19 No, you would get the Brown wig first if you get at least 80 dog tags in the Plant chapter, Meaning you would have to finish up Very Easy and Easy mode. This is a highly inefficient way to fight them
Yes, but that Action means stealth takedowns, infiltration, cover ops, etc. Not THIRD PERSON SHOOTER. I already conquered the games, so it was just a reflection on my side. They are masterpieces for most of the time, but the Bike chase on MGS4 is really a bad thing when aiming for Big Boss emblem -which I got 6 times, and might as well get once more because MGS4 IS FINALLY GETTING TROPHIES! MGS4 will be re-released in Japan and will include a launch of a patch for older games to the trophy funct
Good ol' Kojima...
Make a fight tedious, long and also be sure to keep it to where you can't make many mistakes.
He should have had a mode of Super Mecha Hardcore Extreme Mode where you fight 100 of these things, where its a one hit KO if you get hit. You unlock a Green wig afterwards that doesn't do anything.
fight on Very Easy - shoot leg, then face. instant kill.
my reaction - *sigh* BORING
fight on Normal - takes about 5 missiles
my reaction - STOP LAUNCHING MISSILES YOU F****** COWARDS GRAAAAAAAAAH
Try European extreme next.
I'm not complaining about Boss fights, I was complaining about how some parts on the MGS games turn out to be a firefight completely forgetting the stealth part of the game. Have you tried MGS4 bike chase aiming for a No-kill run? It is madness on wheels using only the Tranq pistol.
Destroying a robot don't count as a kill
This is on extreme ! U can tell by the amount oh damage he is doing with each hit
The chaff grenades barely do anything in my opinion. I just keep firing stinger missiles until I hear their missiles coming
This is where all my skill as a Video Gamer is put the TEST!!! EPIC!!!
when you think about the fact al those ray's are arsenal gear protectors you have to admit its got alot of them.
If you beat metal gear solid franchise. This Include all vr missions. Any stealth game or any huge boss fight you go against with guns. You will win.
Ah yes... mechanical legiana
YAH, METAL JACK FROM ZANDATSU GEAR RISING SEARING HOT REVENGEPORN.
OUR DNA WILL BE WHY THERE WILL SEQUEL TO THIS GAME.
I had a stroke while reading ur fucking comment dipshit
When the revengeance is rising
Collecting Dog Tags. :D
How u switching between chaff and stinger so fast? is this pc?
This fight is goddamn hard without the wig. Sure chaff makes it easy but when you run out that missile spam is coming for your ass. And god help when you run out of ammo and your running around waiting ammo to respawn.
@mattaddison19 No, you would get the Brown wig first if you get at least 80 dog tags in the Plant chapter, Meaning you would have to finish up Very Easy and Easy mode.
The Stealth camo comes in after the brown wig; you would need at least 120 dog tags in the plant chapter as well. Which means you have to finish the plant chapter in Very easy, easy, and normal mode.
Omg you made that so hard for yourself
Otacon mentions that chaff grenades slow the rays down if you call him up on the codec I believe, something along those lines I think
What Spartan said, I think it slows them down a bit too but thats just me.
how many rays in extreme and in E.extreme?
I haven't played this game in over half a decade. Under what circumstances did Raiden a.k.a. not Solid Snake get attacked by a whopping tree Metal Gear Rays?
Epic fight still till this day
Yeah. I never lost hope sob sob T_T Already plated MGS4. Didn't went for it right away after the patch came out, I wanted to replay it for the fun and the joy I had playing it on 2008, and so I did, once I was convinced and willing to go through the experience again I went to it and after 4 days got my Plat.
Youre insane Vamp is nothing compared to this... I just got them down to the last 3 and died... those missiles are so cheap. They take like 80% health with body armor on.
I hate how Hideo creates excellent tactical games but then throws in a full fledged fight, the same happens in MGS4 during the bike sequence, I hated that part while getting the Big Boss emblem (which I proudly got 7 times).
@IzunaOverture Screws up the MG Ray's missile targeting system.
It became a reality!
Trying to do this over ps now streaming service is a special kind of hell
I'm on the oil fence bit at the moment so still have that and the tengu's to get through. My question is though; where do you get rations from?? I dont think ive seen one during my whole extreme playthrough, just been getting lucky that life regenerates after the boss fights.
Am I just missing them or do you get them after a certain point?
Jason On European Extreme there are 0 rations. none. nil. zero. absolute nothing. You’ll probably start the ray fight on low health so use the body armour to survive a machine gun shot. Your health goes back to full before the Solidus Chokehold after this fight. Goodluck.
Well technically it should've messed up your Stinger Launchers lock-on too. Like, harder to get a lock-on & easier to lose it.
i thought i can´t do this do , but after 50 tries ,i did it
How much rays on normal?
3 rays?! Fuuuuuuuu!
@mattaddison19 But make sure you save a single file where your dog tags are kept in count when you get them in all modes.
Isnt there some kinda trick to this boss fight? Becasue you kill one then tey just keep coming back. But other times id kill like 3 and then a cut scene. But other times id kill one and then theyd keep coming untill like the 50th ray
On EE I could never do the strangle/torture part
Thank you!
Do i really need to fight and destroy several RAYs or just run around and dodge stuff till Raiden gets tired?!!
@DoctorBlur
Exactly, it's not that hard I think the hardest battle was probably Vamp 1 or just the sniping part in general.
Vamp is easy to take out. Just shoot him once, he goes in water. Toss a grenade or two in with him. Then hang off the ledge in the back. He will slowly walk up to your position. When he starts to knife you, come back over the ledge, and do the 3 hit combo. He goes back in the water, rinse, repeat. Sounds cheap, but this is extreme. Also in the Tengu fight, hiding behind the small crates on the left side, and get up. They WILL NOT hit you...!!! Fire away. The only part you need to get creative on is the last section before you go in the round circle area. Tranq Snake before triggering the enemies, hide in the corner, and spray the guys with swords with coolant. Keep doing till all sword guys are gone. Keep Snake tranqed, otherwise he will get overwhelmed.
This boss battle on normal difficulty I reached the colon by 3:05 pm and then beat all 6 metal gear rays at 4:51pm on my 2nd attempt I seriously can't believe people broke their controllers over this and were stuck here 7-10 years you cannot be serious? because metal gear Rex over on mgs for PS1 took me 2 weeks to beat back in 2012. This ray boss fight felt like a walk in the park compared to Rex seriously come on!?
Impressive, now I know how to beat them easier...
I thought chaffs would also affect the stingers...
I already Plated the trilogy so I'm just waiting to see if this time the trophy support for MGS4 becomes a reality, I hope the trophies are the emblems + Platinum. I got all of them more than once except for the most annoying one "Chicken" I hated that one.
Brown Wig gives unlimited ammo dude, it's a dog tag unlock.
More than three rays?! FUUuUu
chaff garnade?? yeah good idea.....
Can someone specifically tell me what chaff does to the RAYs? Does it only effect missiles? I've beaten this battle several times, and am on my 5th play through (hard) and I think I need some extra help. Does it only disorient lock on missiles? Or does it stop those horrible knee missiles too.
fukn knee missiles are the only thing landing hits
Nice using the wig to help you
It gets tiring when you reach the D models 😂
@namikazeshinn reeally I unlocked just by playing through three times on different difficulties and I had no dog tags
I did it! Thanks Correy T.
