I liked playing as Roxas more than Sora because, Sora's storyline was pretty clear and tried to teach some lessons about friendship and all that. Roxas' story was more confusing and he was not always driven by good like sora was. Towards the end of 358 days Roxas was driven by anger caused by the death of Xion and his main goal was to kill Xemnes and set kingdom hearts free.
The way kingdom hearts is recruiting so many keyblades of light...I'm hoping they pull a Birth by Sleep and make you play MULTIPLE characters,since that's like...Sora,Riku,Lea,Kairi,Roxas,Mickey,Aqua,Ventus,Terra...you get the idea... this would mean we could get to enjoy Roxas fully.

To those people who are confused; SPOILERS Roxas and Ventus are NOT the same person. At the beginning of Birth By Sleep we see Ventus falling into a Station of Awakening with a broken platform (heart). He's talking to a voice, which is a new heart being born-a heart that belongs to a currently being born baby Sora. Baby Sora heals Ven's heart by using the light he has mroe than enough light to share at that point due to him still being born and Sora's heart still being created.
Later, four years into the future, Ventus destroyed Vanitas (who looks like an older Sora because of his connection to Sora) who just so happens to be Ventus' darkness, thus destroying himself and losing his heart as well. Because of this Ventus was put into sleep, his heart leaving his body in search of refuge. He came into contact with a heart-the same heart that saved him four years ago. He now resides with Sora's heart for the next ten years.
At the end of Kingdom hearts 1 Sora uses the keyblade to release nine hearts-His, the seven princesses of Heart, and Ventus. (I'm under the belief that Ven's heart had healed completely during those ten years, thus it would not damage him if he left Sora) Sora turned into a heartless and the princesses' hearts returned to their bodies, but Ventus had no place to go. That is, Roxas. He used Roxas as a vessel, but his heart was dormant for most of the year Roxas existed. Roxas LOOKS LIKE Ventus and HAS THE SAME APPERANCE because of his heart.
SPOILER ALERT: Nobodies Grow hearts over time. Xemnas and Xigbar hid this from the Organization. Play Dream Drop Distance.
Roxas seemed to have a heart since the very beginning, didn't he? In fact, I believe that in a fanbook it said Ven's heart resided with in Roxas, and does so on many other websites as well. Apparently Ven Nomura hinted at that, but we won't really know until KH3, so please don't hate on me for my theory.
Roxas, while hosting Ven's heart that lied dormant, grew one of his own due to his time hanging out with another Nobody named Axel, and another named Xion. They become best friends and often hang out on top of the clocktower eating ice cream, but end up growing apart and even closer all at the same time due to the events that were happening. EX: Xion finding out her being a puppet made to copy Roxas' keyblade, stealing his strength and powers, Axel being made to bring Xion back and fight her, Roxas getting mad at Axel for attacking and hiding things from him.
Sadly, as we all know, Xion forces Roxas to kill her and absorb her so she can go back to Sora. (Or did she just go straight to Sora? That part kind of confused me DX) Roxas and Riku as they fight later both struggle to remember Xion, but as Roxas leaves the castle he gains two Keyblades-Oathkeeper and Oblivion.
His ability to dualwield is BECAUSE of Ventus' heart residing inside of him, such as the reason why Ven was the reason why Sora had the ABILITY to wield a keyblade. DON'T GO HATING YET-! Sora only had the ABILITY to wield the keyblade until Riku went all cocoo for darkness and HIS keyblade, bestowed upon him by Terra, went to Sora until the end of KH1 before Sora got his own keyblade, heart proving to be true and worthy and all that lovely Disney stuff. :)
Roxas, basically, when he was absorbed into Sora again, Ventus' heart then resided inside Sora's once again.
I think I explained it... I may have rabbled a bit about unimportant stuff. I'm not sure. Hope this helps.
SHORTER AND SIMPLE: Roxas is Sora's Nobody. ROxAS. Sora had Vens' heart inside him until he turned into a heartless, and Ven then went into Roxas because he needed a place to stay until Sora is able to return Ven to his body. Sora gained the ability to wield the keyblade 'cause of Ven, but did not have his own keyblade till the end of KH1. Roxas is able to dual wield 'cause of Ven, who's heart was no longer dormant thanks to the loss of Xion-whom he was trying so desperately to remember. Roxas had a heart since the beginning-that was Ven. He grew his own heart. He and Ven are NOT THE SAME PERSON. They look very much a like but they do have some differences besides clothing. I don't believe their eyes are the same blue. Ven's also like, sixteen. Roxas is about fifteen in KH2. I'm gonna shut up now. Please keep scrolling. XD

Something that adds to Roxas' tragic story is that he only lived for one year. 358 days in the organization and seven in the simulated Twilight Town. :(
One of the reasons why Ansem the Wise regretted his actions towards Nobodies like Roxas and Namine. He relied too much on his findings about Nobodies having no heart and when he realised that Roxas does have a heart and how much suffering he had inflicted on him, it must have been painful to accept that a person who is supposed to in the realm of lights to act so despicable. I feel sorry for Ansem too since he is also a victim of Xehanort and why he had been so revengeful. It takes a huge mistake to understand the consequences of our action and the sufferings we could cause to another being.
Georgia Andrea Yep. And Ansem the Wise ended up regretting what he did to Roxas because to begin with he hated all Nobodies due to being banished to The Realm of Darkness by the Nobodies of his apprentices. But after seeing Nobodies like Roxas and Axel develop emotions Ansem realized he was wrong.
And Axel is an asshole for not answering Roxas back at the world that never was

I'm going to say this again though Im tired of saying it Sora knows what pain is about the pledged himself and the darkness which led to rock his birth to save his friend kairi, and his friend Riku betray him, heck his own keyblade turned on him, and his friends Donald and goofy abandoned him all in kh 1,
also he had to fight him he had to watch all the people he loved die when his home world fell into darkness, all the while sacrificing himself to save the existing home worlds to have them forget who he even was due to a nobody he didn't even know, and had to fight and alternative version of himself to keep his existence so I don't get why Roxas said that

Roxas is kinda the most human character. Lmao see how that works out? I wish we could've seen him destroy Xemnas.
It's funny too, because in BBS, when Ven meets Lea for the first time, Isa complains how Lea always talks with everyone. Lea says as long as he is in the memories of people, he will never truly be gone. He promises to meet Ven again, and look at what happens 10 years later. He meets up with "Ven", at least, with Ven's heart, which I think is the reason why they were the ones who connected so quickly.
When Roxas was created he has no memories, and no feelings, but he met Axel an xion and built a strong friendship whit them.
And then he lost them, and he felt an uncummensurable pain.
Next, he was brought to Twilight Town by Riku and diZ, there he met Hayner, pence and olette, and he built Another strong friendship.
And he lost his friend again.
And he felt once more that uncummensurable pain.
This is a tragedy

I think both sora and roxas are great characters but roxas seems like he could be a protagonist in a all new kingdom hearts story after the xeanort saga.

Yeah, maybe after the battle, sora is unsuccessful in stopping the restoration of kingdom hearts, but the light side wins, and sora may use kingdom hearts to bring back any fallen characters, and this could include xion and roxas

I love Roxas! Him and Ventus are my favorite characters! I might be biased by their voice though, Jesse McCartney does an amazing job in the KH series! But those two characters are so amazing because they have sad stories! They're both the kind of characters that I ended up feeling protective about because they're so wonderfully naïve, and they get taken advantage of and both end up sad and confused. Ventus is broken and becomes comatose, and Roxas is forced to accept that he belongs to Sora and that he can't be his own person (although I hope this turns out not to be true and that he will return and gain his own heart!). There's also the fact that these two characters' themes are absolutely beautiful! The Other Promise? Hits right in the feels! And Ventus' theme is amazing too, look up Aqua's lullaby, if Ven's a fav of yours, you'll be crying for sure!

@Bradley Aguirre, Sora is far from selfish. He has no blame in the tragedy of Roxas. He's childish due to his personality, but really, if it wasn't for his willingness to sacrifice himself for Kairi, you wouldn't even know who Roxas is.

while Sora`s strong in his own way with his trust in others and with his strong heart where many people lie because of his true kindness no one will forget. *BUT* he is childish & finds it hard to cope as you saw when Sora cried when he saw his best friend after a year.
While Roxas is strong but not as strong heart wise *emotional* but somewhat mentally as he has matured through his pain and suffering and must know what he must do, HE CRIED OVER XION but never mourned over her until he thinks he sees her in DDD, he may cry a lot but hes been through a lot
and thanks to him Sora has matured in DDD and will hopefually be a victorous hero in kingdom hearts 3 against that as*hole Xehanort!
I think Sora and Roxas are a lot more similar than you may have put it, HMK. I know, Sora is usually depicted as the more cheerful, happy-go-lucky one, and Roxas the dark bruiting one, but I think the environment the two of them had played a part in it as well. Sora hung out with Donald and Goofy all the time and made friendships with countless Disney characters, while Roxas had people like Axel and Xion,who are beings of darkness. I think if Sora didn't have Donald and Goofy there to keeps Sora's spirits high, Sora and Roxas wouldn't be too different from each other. Because in the first game, Sora wasn't exactly being the most optimistic person in the world, but Donald and Goofy were there to remind him that everything will be okay. But when Roxas was fearing for Xion in 358/2 Days, nobody was there for him. Little things like that can change the character.

Jesus, I already knew all about Roxas and his whole mixed up ties with Sora and Ventus but watching this really depressed me man. I still get sad when I play KH2 and he says the part about his vacation being over. T-T Sora agrees that Roxas is his own person though he tells Roxas so in KHDDD T-T!!

Y'know, I don't think Roxas is really happy after merging with Sora. He made it really clear in the beginning that all he wanted was to be his own person.
And yeah... Terra, Aqua, and Roxas. They should have their own pedestal for being the three most tragic characters in KH, with Roxas and Aqua coming on top. Aqua watched as her home, friends, and her world crumbled down around her and all she did was still not enough. And now she's still trapped in RoD.
Roxas' life has been pretty much going downhill since his creation, with a few ups along with Xion and Axel. But in the end, he had to relinquish his very existence for Sora when he made it pretty clear to DiZ that he wanted to be his own person and not a piece of someone else.
Way to totally leave out Ventus. At least the other characters are conscious.

When I was a kid, none of this clicked with me. After I beat the game, it still confused me. Now that I've seen this, I can understand more clearly just the scope of the Kingdom Hearts universe.
The thing I love about Roxas is that he is more like a real person. Sora is too much the goody-goody hero, with no grounded feelings beyond blind hope. Which is fine, but overly traditional to the point that it can be sickening sometimes.
The tragedy of Roxas?? I can name like 4 characters who are way worse off than he is right now.... I'm sure poor Terra would be PLEADING to trade places if he could.
Tbh i would be sooo happy if sora and roxas can seperate and roxas can live his life With DUAL keyblades and sora live with Boring old 1 keyblade

Screw Sora! I like Roxas's story better! I hated Sora after 358/2 Days, I just hate him. I think of him a bit selfish now. Plus he acts so childish. I totally, like Roxas better than Sora :O :3 :P
There were two moments when The Feels hit me hard in this game...The end when everyone was reunited...but most of all, the beginning when he says " Looks like my summer vacation is... over." T_T

Wow this is a blast from my past. I remember that intro. Also I forgot how much higher quality his current mic is than the one in this video. Everything from the thumbnails to the intro to the script itself shows a lot of improvement. Which is to be expected of course as it's been... 7 YEARS?!?! Wow time flies.

Roxas is honestly an incredible character, both Sora and Roxas tackle similar themes and lessons, but Roxas's way of portraying those themes and lessons are a lot more heart breaking which I think gets the themes and lessons across to the players better. Roxas experienced so much grief, anger and confusion, and I can't help but sympathize with Roxas, he lost both of his best friends and isn't even able to keep the memories of one of them, only to be put into a fake world, with fake friends and a fake personality, all for it to come to an end when he passes on to Sora. Anything that was real to Roxas became non existent to him, and even his fake life turned out be more tragic as Roxas found himself right where he was when he first came into existence, alone and confused.
Roxas doesn’t even truly grasp the emotions he feels because he has no previous association with them. He still has these feelings on a base level and expresses them without knowing that he is feeling them. He’s like a child, being unable to comprehend what it is he’s feeling. Sora knows friendship and has a history with it, while to Roxas it’s simply eating ice cream on the clock tower.

I am late to this discussion over Roxas and Sora but one thing is that Roxas never deserved all these things he had to confront. These obstacles help Roxas to grow much more because of the tragic things he faces. I understand how people do not like Sora as much as Roxas, but Sora knew what was going around him and had a strong belief in his friends and this was his power. Sora understood that anger, sadness, fear, and other qualities attributed to darkness but Roxas knew nothing. Sora had to stay positive and become the person that he is because the darkness could overtake him and lead him astray. On the other hand, Roxas was put in the deep end and had a tragic end because he was lost and confused. Applying to us to Sora and Roxas's situation, we all do not deserve the situation that Roxas faces, Sadly though, some of us had to face these tragic things in real life. In doing so, we had to learn the hard way, unlike Sora.

The fact that Roxas has been through so much and is still able to tell Sora to his face 'it has to be you' signalling he accepts his fate makes him my favorite character of all in the kh series...
Saddest part of kingdom hearts for me was Xion's life though, she probably had it tougher than Roxas, know that your existence means the end of your friend's and that you're the living theft of Sora's life... And then having to accept that you have no choice but to die to keep your loved ones safe... KH can tell some really sad stories... and i didnt even mention BBS

I'm a little new to this channel but I have got to say, the videos are well done. The editing is good and when you speak, you do a good job. Not too fast and not too slow. You do tend to stutter here and there but over all you are way better then a lot of people I have come across and I can tell you have some experience in this. Over all, you seem like an awesome Analyzer for Kingdom Hearts.

oh roxas... if i could, i would be your friend sitting in the same spot every day after school
+AlfaCalpha dude, hate to burst your bubble, but HMK is right, he looks into what he talks about and knows his stuff. There are so many things that prove that 358/2 begins around the end of KH1, throughout Chain of Memories, and ends at the beginning of two. Play the games and watch ALL of the cutscenes before you tell someone they're wrong.
It's funny how some ignorant people say this game should just be for kids when literally half of it's plot line is existential despair. Kingdom Hearts is a very dark, (and hopeful at the same time) game that just gives off the innocent appearance of being kiddy by being themed by disney.
I've had several tragedies with my rucksack as well during highschool. Must be really tough having to carry all the burden while keeping my back comfortable...
It took them 13 years to finaly give Roxas what he wanted, his own life with his best friends. I hope we get play as him in future KH titles after KH3. Roxas is my favorite KH character.
I really felt sorry for Roxas in 3D when Sora said to him basically "You should be your own person" and Roxas was just like "No I'm part of you."

Emotions are deep and they linger, Tocas was just as much as his own person as Sora was, however, Sora would never awaken if Roxas didn't return to him. Roxas coudl have been his own person, but it's eh end he told Sora, 'Your me so you can feel what I felt'. Meaning he has come to accept he can never be his own person after that life he had already went through. So he shows Sora all of his memories and grief that had built up inside him, so that he can show that life can be cruel and he dose not wish for Sora to have to go through what he did. To sum it all up, Roxas had already lived a life, of lies and deception, and has wished to join with Sora again so that he would be able to leave behind the pain and possible protect his true self from what he had faced. So that Sora dosen't become as cold as he did.

I can take any bullcrap time travel they throw at me in KH3, but please just give Roxas a happy ending. The most saddest moment in KH for me is in KH2 when we kinda get a glimpse of Roxas's feelings through Sora after the prolong. When Sora is saying goodbye to Hayner, Pence and Olette and cries/is all melancholy about having to say good bye to people (for him) he just met that had to be the saddest moment for me.
Now he is back... He definitely deserved that..
Because Riku turned into a Dream Eater and Sora's new clothes were actually unknowingly given from the new organization so they would have a way to monitor him during the mark of mastery, which is why young xehanort was able to follow him

After that long a** intro in KH2, I really grew fond of Roxas and the town he lived in.
But after that he barely appeared. :/
I like Sora and Roxas, one for being admirable and the other relatable but I'm leaning towards Sora. I like his cheerfulness, I care for his friends and it's just all so cute and I really needed that happy ending. But like I said, Roxas is relatable, and beating the two games felt like vacation was over and time to face an ugly reality.
Ven's heart had the worst experiences. He was used by Master Xehanort as a tool, only then to be deemed useless, and split into two halves, throwing the light part aside while training the dark half as his apprentice.
Confused and losing his memory, he is fortunate to find friendship with Terra and Aqua, as well as a father figure in Eraqus, only to see one fall to darkness, one lost in the abyss of the dark world, and one perished at the hands of a friend because he was going to kill Ven to prevent an all powerful keyblade from being created. Which ended up happening anyways, albeit only for a split second, but it had an unfortunate side effect of putting him in a comatose state.
Desperate, he sent his heart over to Sora, and took shelter in it until the events of KH1. Only for that connection to be severed unintentionally by Sora releasing his and Kairi's hearts. Thus, Roxas is created, and the cycle of being used and abused continues.
I have to sort of disagree with you when you said that Roxas has been through more than Sora, yes he went through painful times (because he didn't know what was going on, lies, abused and used etc) but Sora lost his home and friends, lost his heart, been used as well, had his best mate turn on him, had to overcome odds, losing his best mate to a different realm again, memory torn apart then remade etc, all before Roxas disappeared. It's not one has it harder than the other, one just 'takes' it harder than the other, the strength of character is different. Also different hurts entirely. BrosWithSwag No just commenting on that i think that Roxas hasn't necessarily been through more. I have played all of KH or watched lets plays of KH2 and BBS waiting for KH2.5 to play those 2 and coded myself.

Going off of what DroidPlaysGames said, I think it would be neat if For example, during Kingdom Hearts 3 you could, say have Sora and Roxas switch personalities so you are playing as Roxes and he uses dual keyblades and has higher attack strength(Bieng the more ruthless and sort of more hardened warrior) but to balance it out, say, has less health, or less defense so he is not completely better than Sora.
I saw Xion's life in KH 358/2 as it's own tragedy. Roxas had to accept that he was not his own person and that was tragic but Xion had to accept that she was the memories of someone else and her living was slowly going to kill both of them. Sora would lose all his memories and sleep forever and Xion would become a Sora Replica if she survived the process and the odds of that happening are next to zero judging my Namine's line ''If his memories become her memories... She will never survive it''

Roxas lost his best friend and technically is not supposed to exist I feel anger sorrow and grief for him I'm not saying Sora's been through nothing but Roxas has defiantly been through more
raymond shegog He lost Xion. However, Xion resides in Sora's heart now, as well as Roxas. So in a way, you can say they have been reunited. This was noted during the end of DDD, when Riku dives into Sora's heart, he sees Roxas, Xion, and Ventus all "living" in what Sora sees as his place of peace, the Destiny Islands.
I wouldn't say Sora had it better but he just has a more stable future
and sora never died while roxas watched his best friend die who he just so happened to have had to kill

One thing I've noticed about the saddest moments countdown and this. When KH2.5 came out soon after wards, if you'd made a new version of this, would you have included the scenes from Re: Coded, before and after the fight? Also, while this seems a bit similar to Roxas' Grief (namely, the memories part) in Dream Drop Distance, what about the post-fight scene, when Data Roxas goes back to Data Sora? That one also seems quiet sad and noteworthy.

And also, what a horrific tragic story for someone with a young age. And here I thought Ventus was the worst:( Roxas never had a good time but had many losses>.< Roxas only had a good time in twilight town, but was imidiatley erased:(

The key of destiny. Well, it actually makes lots of sense. He's Ventus (the x-blade, and Master Xehonort's apprentice) stuck inside Sora's nobody (and Sora is, of course, the "savior" by this point) in Orginazation 13. That's enough keys and destinies to make Roxas the main character, if you ask me. It's so sad that literally everyone in the universe wants to destroy him. Do you think Xemnas is, after a manner of speaking, trying to take Roxas as his apprentice to replace how Xehonort lost Ventus?
technically sora didn't lose his or ven's heart, this is exetremly visible because sora finds and seeks kairi, when he becomes a heartless, and when kairi touches him he turns back due to the excessive amount of light in kairi's heart. therefore sora isn't a nobody even though everyone thinks he is. also roxas is sora as a nobody not a completely different nobody. so roxas was 'born' when he turned into a heartless but did not need to be destroyed to regain sora, this is probably why he takes appearance of ventus.

Sora definitely went through as much as Roxas
I've always been more of a fan of Sora then Roxas. But I've always felt the major Feels with Roxas. I really hope in KH3 Sora and the others can see to it Roxas and all those that have been lost can finally have a happy ending.

how about making a top 10 kingdom hearts disney partners list. they could be either friends that you fight along side with or talk to on the side as long as its disney and one character per world. you can scale this on usefulness whether they be fighting or give useful information, their involvement in the story as well as your involvement in their story, how much they contribute, and finally the main groups overall relationship with the disney character.
2 things, Roxas technically has two hearts Ventus' at his creation, which quicken the development of his own heart, as nobodies can grow hearts (BBS). And also Xion is a nobody, as her creation was through the memories of Sora & Kari, and although her body is dubious in it's origins, she dies the same way any nobody does, and also probably developed her own heart as well. Also it may be that her existence is similar to Vanitias' and would make some better explanation as to what she exactly is. They also both have black hair, so maybe Xion is Unversed?

I have a idea though, a tradegey of sora could be made. Sora never asked to wield a keyblade it just got dumped into his lap At a young age. He could only watch as his friends fell to their fates. He had to fight his best friend. And watch the girl he loves be abused and void of any heart. He felt the pain of roxas and the stress if being the hero to save them all.
