Hi Thomas, great to hear from you. I'm really pleased you like the video. I liked the ideas and wanted to share it with you guys in case anyone was struggling. :)
So you're only a few months into learning, great stuff, keep up that practice and you'll be smashing it in no time! I'm glad you like the format, i've been working on some templates to show sheet music, note names, note numbers and fingers too. It's a bit complicated but weve all got different learning styles and i really want to cover them all for you. I think i'm getting there like in the "funk note" video. I'll stick with that layout and just make minor tweaks.

Thanks Paul, for your very kind thoughts - In our UK lockdown, since, I am now up to 3 hours a day on my tenor Saxophone. What is your definition of a Beginner, and an Intermediate player? I am curious on this point. You have helped me a lot on my Saxophone so far, especially advice on reeds which once drove me half mad. Thx very much

Hi Chris, your welcome. 3 hours a day, thats great! you'll definately be making progress with all tat time going in.
Hmmm.... the subject of classification between beginner and intermediate and of course advanced too, is a tricky one. and the answer is possibly fluid depending on the level and generousitty of the person thats answering.
The intermediate catagory is probably the largest. Moving from beginner to intermediate would probably indicate a level of proficiency in several things, not all of which might be relevant to yourself. Ideally i would say being able to play written music of grade standard 4 or above. Have a decent amount of the scales memorised and be able to recite them at mewdium tempos, have some level of improvising proficciency, (at basic level over simple situations)
In real world situations like a jam session setting i guess i'd be thinking a beginner is someone who the audience would charitably endure (perhaps not really enjoying the result, but enjoying seeing someone have the guts to get up and give it a go, tuning issues, timing issues, non complex playing). An intermediate performance would be one that might not blow anyone away but most of the audience can enjoy (not be put off by obvious mistakes and failings in tuning, tone, note choice etc). this could be a huge variation in abilities but all related by having nothing too offputting in their performances and the result is quite pleasing if not exeptional. Also an ability to instill some emotion in ones playing as well as evoke some emotive response from the audience, if not as deep and/or frequently as an advanced player might. Then advanced and expert are the removal of all failings that are noticable by the audience, and a greater degree of dexterity on the intrument, greater knowledge of the musical siituation and how to respond to everything. a greater ability to portray and evoke emotional response.
Sorry i've never really thought about quantifying it before, so i just had a keyboard rant about it. I hope some of that makes sense. I'm sure people would have differing opinions on the subject. As wellthere are so many aspects of skill and musicianship, i would say it depends on your focus, you might never be interested in sight reading, or conversely, playing by ear. You could be intermediate at one and not even beginner at the other.
It's be an interesting topic to reserarch and put together various opinions from various sources including music schools and exam boards, then find the average. :)
