I really want to train Kudo, I'm a former grappler and also been boxing for decades and Muay thai for years as well. Kudo looks very effective for the streets where people are not skilled grapplers rather aggressive brawlers

@@DavidTheFlyingGuy2000 I have trained and competed in kudo and know the entire background to its development from oyamas kyokushinkai .However,there is no fundamental karate i it anymore because they found boxing and kickboxing more effective for match fighting. Self defense however is not often a match fight howver .
Guys I’m a blue belt in kyokushin karate and I train in judo it’s the best combination for martial arts. You don’t need to be a black belt in kyokushin but need to have a good base in it and transition into judo.
this is the real thing. a lot better than the traditional kyokushin and muay thai i guess. i wish the kancho of different kyokushin organizations would realize that martial arts have evolve tremendously due to the rise of ufc and mma. grabbing an opponent or punching the face is a natural instinct during a fight or competition, so it should be allowed in competitions so that fighters or players would know how to deflect face punches. some of the IKO rules are so unreal. imagine kicking and punching each other for 2 to 3 minutes during competitions without pushing or grabbing, thats ridiculous. just my 2 cents. still, respect to all martial arts. osu
well that's absoltey true, a master Patrick Levet in Vovinam Viet Vo Dao has reform the traditionnal style with more practical aspects and all, it's impressive. But old masters and tradition don't recognize this (check out Integral vovinam)... Just another example of this conflict
My old Karate teacher had 2 degrees of Kudo black belt. And though we often did light-contact sparring to faces, he had me do more Kyokushin-style sparring. He said the kyokushin style is less useful for street fight but better in the sense that we could keep Karate training for longer time w/o so much damage on the brain. Whether your point is on or off the money depends on the reason for training of each individual.
I've done western boxing for 40 yrs and judo for the last 24 yrs and recognise Kudo potential ...but there is no room for any Katas or patterns as they are utter bullshite ...oh yeah Shadow box yeah but not a series of immaculately delivered silly blocks and square on punching like in shotokan !!
Marshall Pierre I agree if we talk about "do" styles. Shotokan, judo, aikido. More philosophical than harmfull in my opinion is good tradition to follow. More peacefull. P.S. karate daido juku as well as kyokushin I don't count as "do" styles even if daido juku call itself "kuDO". Peace.

Pretty much, to me it's more of a mix between Karate Boxing and Judo. I came from a wrestling / BJJ background so alot of this would be hard to do aggaisnt a decent grappler, but if you add in the strikes to set the throws up you will increase ur chance of success.
i don't know anyone practicing shidokan karate nor know their detailed competition rules, but the only difference i could find is that shidokan competitions are held in boxing rings as opposed to the open mat space for kudo. I'm sure there are some other minor differences in competition rules, but the concept seems to be pretty much the same.
Kudo is an independent martial art with striking, grappling and ground fighting, while shidokan karate is a karate style that just incorporates striking and takedown techniques. Obs: both styles don't have katas, just kihon and kumite
