    I can relate. I grew up in California, joined the Navy, traveled the world, settled in Hawaii in my 20's which was amazing!!! Got older, moved to the SF bay area making over $100k but worked 12 hours a day and felt like I was a robot in a factory.
    Fate led me to a move to Nevada. Vegas actually. Loved Vegas for the action but something inside me turned on like a light switch. I started to dislike the city life. I started to dislike the bright lights and action. Maybe having kids had something to do with it?
    One fateful trip to Carson City, Reno Tahoe in the winter changed my life. It was beautiful. It was cold, there was snow, there were trees everywhere, ponds, streams, rivers and lakes and most of all nice friendly country folks. If you dont like talking about what dog your thinking about getting and the snow in Tahoe or what place has good BBQ or what ATV your thinking about buying to explore the hills etc...then maybe Reno isnt for you. Friendly people talk to each other up here.
    We sold the Vegas house, said goodbye to the heat and moved to Reno. We found a secret gem of a neighborhood tucked away from the world with ponds, hills, trees and trails, ducks, geese, rabbits, frogs outside our door lol.... and couldnt be happier. I love how quiet it is. I hope my neighborhood doesnt change for the next 40 years. With Tesla and other big companies moving here, its sure to evolve but that takes time.
    I probably wouldnt like this place in my 20's...its slow....its quiet...but today....its my favorite place. I even like it better than Hawaii.
    Thanks for the video. You are a great story teller.

    I have to say a sincere thank you for making this. I'm considering a move in a year from now, and I'm so tired of seeing these copy-paste realtor videos populating first in every single search about moving somewhere. Reno has caught our eye recently and this video just moved it way up in the ranks, so thank you for the production/creation on this.

    Hi - Loved your story! My late brother lived in Vegas for over 30 years due to his tour bus driving job into Utah & Colorado following several years of driving the LA to Vegas run. He was actually a transplanted 🇨🇦 where myself (his younger sister) still lives. For fun I was doing a research on Nevada (in memory of my brother) and more or less decided on NW Nevada’s Carson City and Reno as my 2 fav places that were a bit more like 🇨🇦 weather-wise.
    I had thought about Mesquite but it’s a bit too hot and dry there - though enticing because of its location.
    That’s great you met someone who led you back to the USA and closer to your California family. Appreciate you sharing your life and travelling experiences with us. Cheers!
    PS: I learned about remarkable Tahoe from watching TV golf tournaments there. Thank you for this video!

    Welcome to Northern Nevada! As a transplant from East LA 12 years ago, a lot has changed but so much has stayed the same! God bless the “boy” for bringing you to this magical place! Kristin you blew my mind with this video. It was so beautifully put together. It was like poetry. The RSCVA has never produced anything this awesome to promote Reno/Tahoe. I moved to Reno many years before you for the sun and the wide open spaces of nature. However, in recent years I have seen several troublesome trends. As Tahoe and Reno have become more popular, the negative effects of overcrowding have reared their ugly head. Tons of trash left on Tahoe's pristine beaches by visitors during tourist season has spoiled many places I used to enjoy. Traffic and parking congestion has also spoiled many beautiful areas. I wish people respected the natural treasures we are lucky enough to live near. I thought your video was beautifully done, but we don't need more people who don't value our quality of life. Sadly, each day it seems like this quality is disappearing more and more.

    • @Bemytravelmuse
      @Bemytravelmuse  3 роки тому

      Yes the trash is definitely worrying. I didn’t even want to go this summer in August because it was so crowded. This is the story of pretty much everywhere. The population increased so much since we were kids, and more people have mobility now. I think it’s really about education and parents setting a good example for their kids. I’ve signed up to volunteer this summer to dive to pick up trash from within the water. Will definitely be making a video about it!

    • @nevadaxtube
      @nevadaxtube 3 роки тому

      @@Bemytravelmuse Thanks for setting a good example Kristin. I feel sad that July and August have been erased from my Tahoe calendar due to the disrespectful visitors that make me sick. Why would anyone trash Tahoe? It defies any reasonable explanation, but it happens. As a photographer, I find it shocking how much litter and graffiti I see there.

      This was a beautifully shot and edited video of Reno/ Tahoe. Once you start calling yourself a local you'll take down these videos and stop shouting how beautiful Reno is lol. All native Reno-ites know it is the secret that is being let out of the bag before any of us were ready and ruining the place we call home. I guess the cats already been out of the bag for awhile so it's not going back in, haha!
      Thanks to all the Californians moving to Reno to get away from how terrible life is in California, this place is quickly becoming a mini California. They leave the state, but take the "Cali heart" with them. I've lived here for 30 years and what used to be the biggest little city is surely becoming the littlest big city. Not enough room for how quickly it is growing. The housing market is skyrocketing. Now you couldn't get even a shabby house for less than a half mill. When I grew up there was ACTUALLY no traffic, home prices were reasonable, neighbors were friendly, and there was always a great family event anytime of year. Now, the events are too crowded and good luck finding parking. Nobody wants to say hello because of the daily grind most places you go. Neighbors aren't very neighborly. It no longer feels like a family town. Family owned shops and restaurants used to bring a sense of community, but now give the feeling of upscale niche, expensive spots, just like they do in Cali. Also, Reno, although technically a purple state, is getting more and more blue everyday. Not to mention it being ranked 46 in US public education. Not the city it used to be, unfortunately. But for those of you coming from California, you'd love it. It's everything terrible about your state on a more manageable scale 😂.

    I'm from Wa state but I've lived in Vegas for 13 years and Nevada has so much more to offer than people think not to mention the affordability and open spaces plus it's right next to so many cool cities. I'm happy you are showing another side of it.

    I lived in the LA area for many years, but the endless traffic jams and urban world drove me nuts. I had several years to consider my options and on many vacation trips I'd check out other areas. Five years ago I considered moving to Carson City and a few months back I retired and made the move. Based on population I'm living in a town, but where I live is like being in the country with the "City" a short drive away. My life here is far more relaxing and far more interesting.

And healthcare in Reno is not great. So if you need any specialized surgery or care (stroke, heart bypass, etc. ), you’ll need to go to Vegas or Southern California.

    Lasting relationships are a dime a dozen especially here in USA (nobody tells the real truth in why marriages and relationships do not last here); Nevada is in truth your temporary home, just like all the other places you lived before here until you break up with your boyfriend and then find another place to call home. I moved here from San Diego, CA in October 7th of 2021 and where I am currently at they don't really accept me and have already outed my presence here in Henderson, NV. Not a gambler, smoker, drinker, fornicator, nor am I a LIAR, thief, or murderer. However, as a single female, these characteristics very much apply to everyone else around me who strip everyone's good soul to nothingness and claim all your achievements as for their own.

    Lol Nevada literally means "snowy" ..... And the casinos are the reason why you have no state tax.
