Ok, so here are the rules. I must write everything within 2 hours on the computer and then record everything exact to the tab later.
I ended up just doing the drums later and performing them. Ran out of time. So those weren't done without listening.

That was actually the most chill response to an unsaved crash I've ever seen.
"Oh, it crashed."
-Rob Scallon, 2018
"I can't believe you've done this"
Well which *saved* crash would give a negative response?
I would start beating the table and scream do hard and stop recording the video.

That's why you CTRL S every 5 minutes. If the habit is in your system it saves alot of frustration.
Next challenge: hearing metal without writing it
Cal Cradden So listening to music?
@@slimjiml7510 yep
Cal Cradden I bet you’re glad I replied to you because now you get to listen to the amazing music at the end
I can do that

Now record it how you imagined it when you wrote it 😁
EnterTheHatesphere get this to the top!
Yes!
great idea
PLEASE
Now that’s a good idea for a video
You know whats the most amazing thing in this video?
fact that Rob stayed calm after losing 20 minutes of song written without hearing it with keyboard and mouse...
respect
I know, right. I'd be batshit if I forget to save then lose some pages of words document I'm writing..
He was recording his screen as he was writing though so what stopped him from recovering those 20 minutes worth of work from that video?
It would be cool to see what kind of song you could write in six months, or better a year. Just to see how you've improved! You're already a fantastic player and, I won't pretend to know what makes a good composer, but you seem like a good composer. Hell of a lot better than I am. The fact you wrote something difficult, knowing full well it would be a challenge, leads me to believe you'll only get better and better.
LordDes he was timed
+LordDes the timer, you'll note he also didn't give himself the 20m of time back even though he had lost all that time to a crash, he was limited to his 2h, and taking the time to try and watch a video to re-create exactly what he had would have eaten through his time remaining.
I thought it turned out really well! That was badass.
I didnt expect you here, but same!
Hi DOS, love your map videos❤
“Oh no, it crashed. I lost the last 20 minutes” hOW IS HE SO CALM I WOULDVE TROWN SOMETHING AT THE WALL
That’s not a good thing to admit! Control thy anger

I can actually hear the Irish accent in this comment
Hello Rob, thank you for using Guitar Pro 6 in your video.
If you don't want to lose your work, you've got a backup option in the software > Preferences Section > Select Backup every 5 actions.
If you are not as good as Rob for composition, you can also use the functionality Play sound while editing in the Sound Section.
to don't lose your work
That insult at the end 😂😂
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
thats good to know
Guitar Pro, damn! Straight savage at the end!
Woooow, it crashed and he didnt even swear or shout, he just said: oh i think it just crashed, and made a "it is what it is" expression with his hands. Amazing.
The power of editing
I would have ripped my dick off
he killed a man off camera
@Phi6er haha true lol
Ya know... sometimes it happens. And you just gotta get back to work.
Getting mad about it does nothing for anyone.

Well, that's a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
That.... was actually sick. Is there any chance you would adjust that and release it as a full song?
I agree
yes plz

@Rob Scallon
Yo this was dope as heck my man.

This could fit into a game as boss fight theme or something like that
How the hell was this 2 days ago?
That's pretty fucking good for not hearing it beforehand
I spent a year and a half in prison a few years back. There was a music room, but you had to play what they allowed. I wrote a 2 hour long piece of music/concept album just on paper. When I finally got home, I made demos of each part. I initially did it note for note, and was quite close to where I wanted it. Although it was the result of unfortunate circumstances, it was a great exercise for me as a writer and musician. I think it helps allow for the sound in my head to come out regardless of any limitations put upon me by lack of specific technique. It also forced me to better my technique to play the parts. Kudos on the kickass vid Rob.
Why did they lock you up?
Really want to hear it
WHY WERE YOU IN PRISON
the people demand answers
Just making myself part of this thread to see if he ever posts why he was in prison and if he shares the demos he did
Rob seems like the kind of guy that would be super easy to hang out with :)
As long as you don't mind playing ukulele while wearing 10 straw hats and then switch to the 5 string banjo, you'd be in for a treat.
That was actually one of your most interesting videos by far.
rob says he cant write solos and then proceeds to make an unreal one without being able to hear it
Zippy Bob why does it sound like a solo off of ...And Justice For All 😂
the otamatone just chillin
7:08 special guest appearance by the cat
It actually sounds good so now I’m wondering what was the version in rob’s head
The fact that it's weird and different makes it sound really good. I enjoy it.
I thought it was pretty groovy!
He thought of the nutcracker
5:23 is one of the most badass riffs ive heard in a long time
yeah it's really cool
Listen to The Heaviest Matter In The Universe by Gojira, and then listen to all of their songs if you got the time.
check out WITCHCOCK. they've got some of the coolest metal riffs I've ever heard. (their singer sounds like Bon Scott raping Dave Mustaine!)
It reminds me of early cky
Holy shit- Are you planning to take this and refine it and complete it? I would be very fucking excited to hear that.
It sounds like a metal cover of a runescape song
Specifically the song "flute salad" @5:45 I thought the same thing
@@GameOverFiles Lol I forgot I ever watched this video
This is way too accurate
Groooovy as hell.

Skyern Aklea Holy Shit I Need To Make A song Deaf Now!
the fucking bass is godly
Learning the struggles of Beethoven.
Евгений Якимов But he still was one of the best musicians that ever has lived
He used to feel the vibration of the piano to have an idea of what he was composing. Sometimes I know what I am playing on bass just by feeling the vibration running on the bass cube.
Beethoven had perfect pitch, so that certainly helped him a lot.
Better Than Anything I'll Make With No Time Limits And While I'm Hearing It
Same here...
Wait. We should be inspiring each other.
Same lmfao
I was going to comment exactly this.
I read this comment without seeing it
I like the negative colour effect on the note overlay.
That solo was just jazz city! Embrace it!
Bill Hesse I love the way it ends lmao
Ludwig van Scallon
HELL
YEAH
Loved the triplets thing!
Sounded kinda cool tbh, you played the computer vesion, I was like this is not gonna end well will it, you performed it, I was like dayumn.
I wonder how the version in his head sounds like
Best Detective it was probably something mortal ears can't handle.
Honestly, if that's how well it goes, you should do this more in your broader composition work. As a piece, it needs a bit of polish, but it definitely compares favourably to much of your other work
Thanks! I think if I were to do this again I'd put a much shorter time limit on it too and would be fun to listen to things fall apart.
"I'm bad at writing solos" *rips a sick solo*
5:40 is still, two years later, one of my favourite riffs ever 😍
Beethoven simulator (?
Ignacio Cuevas lol
What is "(?" ? Do you mean *0))*?
Watching "writing metal without hearing it" without hearing it
yeah I know I had my computer muted and I was wondering if this was a joke video or something
Your videos are very unique. Keep up the good work man!
Probably the best one I've watched so far from Rob. A very simple concept, but it turned out to be intriguing as hell.
You should complete that song. I'd love to hear this song as a finished product, it is amazing even if it's incomplete.

This sounds like a heavier version of Megadeth.

my God! turn out to be awesome!!! maybe next album, you need to use this method. LOL
deaf album
It turned out very unique and a bit otherworldly, but not a total mess (as I expected). Well done!
i'm so glad you did this! i was so amazed with the previous challenge you did, you're amazing!
Mate that was actually SAVAGE! That riff was tasty too,. I know this was a few weeks ago but I've just found yours and the guys channels. Keep smashing it bro. Piece
I wouldn't even be capable of doing this if I had absolute hearing...Such a talent!
Szilágyi Szabolcs no it's practice and learning
Dude, give this another chance. No time limit. This is a great test of writing ability.
That sounds amazing. Great job. Thank you.
Rob, you are truly gifted. You have no idea!
By now, crashes are considered canonical on Guitar pro
The crashes are always there, growing stronger with every update.
Only if you're mac-user. I spent hundreds hours in my GTP 6 final for windows and haven't a single crash. Can't say about GTP 7, it just looks and sounds awful for me even with soundbanks, lol.
GTP 6 and 7 sounds the same
Midi mode - maybe, soundbanks - hell no.
Whenever it crashes for me I’m like “fuuuuuu”
But robs so chill he’s just like “whatever”
that was awesome Rob keep up the great work!
That's amazing! Loved how it came out
This turned out WAAAAAAY better than I thought it would! You are very skilled, keep up the amazing work! :D
Beethoven Challenge
LLMMFFAAAOOOOOOO MAKE THIS A THING 😂😂😂😂
This tone is frickin' cool man. Good job.
What are you using to write the tabs. I need this for when i eventually come up with a decent riff for my stuff.
Less of a hassle compared to trying to write it down on paper
Never mind!!! I’m an idiot for thinking he actually excluded the program’s name
Guitar pro
You could call this deaftones

I see what you did there.

Lefman Kan deafheaven
This actually turned out really well! It reminds me a bit of TSOP-era Death.
More like Control Denied
Yeah, I thought that too.

that's really amassing! great job, dude!!
sounds cool in the final recording, great job!
I work years to make something sound half as good. This fuck does it def in 2 hours.
without hearing it
That's kinda what deaf means. Good job
I actually quite like how the solo ends abruptly :o
You killed it man this song is super dope
This was fascinating! Keep it up!
You should definitely come back and finish this one, it sounds badass.
Rob don't let this music die here pleaseee
That worked really well! Nice way to try and come up with new things.
Sounded great! Loved the riff
I really liked the sixteenth triplets followed by the sixteenth notes. That was really cool, and I would love to see more like this. Also you mentioned it didn't sound like it did in your head. You should do another video where you try to get what you thought it would sound like.
Clay Hales I second that. Or just do this series again where the first half is the deaf one then the second half is how he wanted it to sound
I knew this wasn’t fake when I saw that guitar pro crashed lmao
Wow, this turned out great! Especially the riffs and solo... It was really great
Industrial metal's dream solo and riffs!
This was great it’s freaking astounding how good you are with music
*TABS?*
Uigui 6 omg :)))))))))))))))) i cant stop
This whole video was in TABS man 😂
Uigui 6 the tabs are there
literally half the video is tabs
ITS ON BOI
I want you to make a song doing only tapping. No pick or pluck allowed!
F o r t h a t s e c o n d
Scale The Summit - TheLevitated
All taps, no strumming, picking, or plucking.
Gojira - Born In Winter
yeah this wouldn't be a hard challenge for rob at all
Tapped harmonics included? Those are awesome n.n btw, for muting, releasing the note without leting the string go sounds kinda good, if you wanna make a riff that doesnt ring all the time like most tapping riffs
That was freakin' amazing! I honestly didn't think it could be done, and be palatable. Awesome result.
I use and write in Guitar Pro very often, and this was one of the most awesome videos I have seen on youtube since ever! Really impressive how you were able to make all parts sound good with each other \m/
You know it’s not a promotion video when it crashes on you.
I couldn't even imagine writing this normally, let alone without hearing it. Great stuff my dude, keep it up
It actually turned fucking awesome, amazing work!
That. Was. BLOODY AMAZING! WOW. Seriously blown away.
Wow! That turned out pretty damned good! 😀👍👏
Haha, good try Apple - you can't stop Metal!

I've been learning counterpoint and satb part writing in my theory class and this exercise is very similar to what we're doing in class. We've spent the whole semester learning the rules for part writing and now we're learning how to input our parts into finale and it's really cool to actually hear what you can come up with just following the rules of thumb.
Dang bud! This was a really cool video I’m always impressed
I would legit have added this to my playlist on spotify if you got a singer
CornUni this doesn’t need a singer
Fishie Fish true!
Why vocals? Just curious
Drew Trotter vocals and lyrics tend to make songs more interesting and enjoyable.
Please make this a series.
I love the bass line. Great work!
That was beautiful!
Could you do this as a series? I don't know how long it took or how much time you have, but I thought it was awesome and I'd love to see more
I loved the solo
your talent is mind blowing!
I really enjoyed this content man great work! :)
That was killer wasn't expecting that then hearing it holy shit
Definitely try again, this sounded awesome! As you mentioned, it's a great exercise in creativity, which you have copious amounts of. I still can't believe this is what you came up with in 2 hours, keep up the great work!
Excellent job! And interesting concept!!!
That was rad Rob, I like the idea of the pure theory composition vs just riffing. Very fun video!
