They discuss the history of musky fishing, the importance of catch and release, the significance of different musky strains, and the conservation efforts to restore musky populations. They also highlight the role of musky fly fishing in the resurgence of musky fishing and challenge the notion that it is a recent trend. The conversation explores the topic of musky fly fishing and its impact on the musky community. The hosts discuss the reasons why they engage in musky fly fishing, including the challenge and the desire for a more ethical approach to catching and releasing muskies. They also address the contradictions within the musky world, such as the focus on catch and release while using methods that may harm the fish. The conversation delves into the controversy surrounding world record muskies and the dilemma of whether to certify and potentially kill a record-breaking fish. Overall, the hosts emphasize the importance of preserving muskies and finding a balance between conservation and angling.

Can’t wait to hear Rinella’s view on Grayling 2.0 in Michigan and how we should go back to the “good old days” of taking train cars of them😁

On episode 549 Rinella put out an offer to fly in and lodge Larry Ramsell to discuss some of the blow back they received on their comments about musky fishing.

...you touch on the topic of "managing" our resources to benefit one species or another...and that species is usually one that people want to hunt/catch/whatever.
Turkeys over grouse. Deer over wolves. Walleyes over muskies.
We should, IMO, be seeking balance. It shouldn't, IMO, be a popularity contest, particularly one based on consumption of the resource...

A thought on the "Kill them all or don't fish for them at all.." argument that some people try to use - and not just WRT muskies: That's a "𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰 𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘶𝘮" and that is not, has never been, and will never be a reasonable way to have a discussion.
All that kind of argument is, is just an attempt to control the dialog by pretending it's a binary choice when it's not, and to drive a particular agenda.
Muskie fishing isn't the only place it comes up...
