Really great camera, Lee! Thanks for the review! 😃 It should be fantastic for airplanes and wings, because of the shape it has! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you for the video!☺With some features updated, RunCam 6 takes the place of RunCam 2, and please update the firmware and RunCam App to the latest version for the best performance.
I did. It know the 6 was out. Mind you I have not been looking for it. EIS mode seemed jumpy as you moved the camera about. I might give this a go as it’s great you do not have to get the phone out to record, I always found the older RunCam hard to see if it was recording. Thanks Lee for the in-site.
Looks like a good camera for fixed wing models. I think the Runcam 2 was also very popular with air soft guys. Anyway good review of a nice, cheap camera. Might be getting one.
I'm thinking of buying the Runcam 6 pro as a action cam, but I'm looking for demonstrations of the low light/night vision capabilities of the IMX377 sensor, and can't seem to find any of relevance It would be nice to see you make a video of the low light capabilities of the Runcam 6 pro, with and without IR light assistance in varying degrees of darkness. I was considering the Runcam Thumb Pro, which has the superior IMX577 sensor, but it appears the Runcam Thumb Pro does not have wifi, which is a must for remote viewing
Have exactly same question. For comparison the dji action 1 has the same sensor so perhaps looking at footage from that can get an idea of performance. It seems to be passable but not great
I haven't had any luck getting Gyroflow to work well with this camera. Just doesn't seem to work as well as either the 5 or the Thumb pro, though I found it not quite as bad as the original thumb. Then again, I was playing around with this on a quad and maybe the gyro in the camera just can't handle the vibrations on that side as opposed to a fixed wing. I'll continue to play with it, but probably not going to replace the 5's for me.
What is the WiFi range? I want to use this as a down range camera, possibly 400 yards away, direct line of sight, and be able to control with my phone with me
Is the lens an M12 like in the other runcams? And is it interchangable by any chance? I can't seem to find this info in their user manual nor website :(
Hello, I just discovered this new Runcam 6. I mainly fly gliders on the slope, so in some ways smoother flight than a drone but still unstable sometimes... I currently use Runcam 4K and Caddx Peanut... The Peanut seems pretty good to me in terms of EIS and horizon lock... even if its max resolution is 2.7K50 I like my Runcam 4K for the "all in one" body with removable battery, and maybe one day I'll switch to FPV so the video out is a big plus. But the 4K footage is sometimes really unsteady, of course... Do you know how this one compare to the Peanut, in terms of both IQ and EIS, please ? Thank you in advance from France ;-)
@@Painless360 Thanks for the reply. I would just like your opinion on these two specific points... My guess is that the IQ is more or less the same but the stabilization is (a lot?) better on the Peanut because of the square sensor and the Insta360 algorithms...
Were you purposefully trying to trigger us by wiping your finger across the clear lens protector? Thanks for the review. I think I'll hold off for the next version. I still have lots of small action cameras I don't use nearly enough as it is. I really like this can use external power. I also really like the removable battery. Some of my action cameras with internal batteries won't power on any more.
I have this camera but to be honest i am not satisfied with the quality of the video. Of course you get what you pay for! My advice save the money for a better camera even if you have to buy it later.
I don't recommend it!! Black stripes appear on each side of the monitor and the screen cannot be completed in FPV. The company's response was this: "Regarding RunCam 6, I am sorry to reply that the screen ratio cannot be changed. The solution that RunCam 6 uses will lead to non-full images when outputting. The RunCam 2 4k is much better than if it delivers a full image on the screen. It's a shame they're not going to continue manufacturing it. It must be for a reason.
I mounted this under my Timber X RC airplane. It records some very nice videos.

Nice! I’ve been on the fence on buying this
Nice review. 👍
Good review Lee.
Thanks for the review! Something I'm trying to find about the runcam6: Loop mode works while in photo mode? To take photos at intervals?
Awesome & Thanks :)
I don't see a big improvement vs the orange5
Thanks for the review - not sure I can really tell the difference between the 4K & 1080p

nice cam and review! could fit on the AOS 7
You'd loose some battery space... Happy flying

Try the latest firmware. Best of luck
Does the HDMI transmit audio? Or just video

The WiFi is designed for close control and setup, I'm not aware of any range testing... best of luck
Can you order the correct usb-c cable if you received the wrong black version? Great review!!
How do I remove the black sidebars when filming with the runcam 6 in 1440 4k mode?.. The Runcam 2 4k did not do this.
Awesome video! Do you know if it's possible to extend the camera module cable? (I think it's called coaxial cable). I want to install a 15 or 20cm
I'm not aware of a way. I didn't see anything about it in the stuff I looked at for the video.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks! I'll try to find some runcam forum to ask directly
I NEED THAT KNOW ! 😍

The stabilisation on the Peanut is probably the most useful setup for ariel video I've had here. That ability to lock the horizon is epic!
Shame there's no 25/50 etc PAL frame rates. Running it naked in a wing would be fun.
Is it h.264 or HEVC/h.265 ?
i guess that the runcam thumb pro v2 is basically the naked version of
Hello is this the last virsion of runcam do you recommended for me better than this one before I decide to buy it
There are a few things about the FPV output, see the other comments... Happy flying
If you use this as an fpv camera, does it stabilise the video that it sends back to your fpv goggles?
I didn't see a photo mode.
Is it fair to assume you would get HDMI output when recording?
Yes
Is the gyro data embedded in the video file or in a separate file that then needs to be synced in gyroflow?
Seperate file. Happy flying

Can it be hooked up to an analog transmitter and be used as a main cam?
Only with that lag mentioned ... Happy flying

I think the DJI O3 Air Unit has put fpv action cameras to bed.
Unless you want to film in another direction, fly analogue or a non 4k HD Camera... Happy flying
Honestly I see the EIS is a little choppy, like there are dropped frames. Not smooth at all really.
