Aqua ran away because he was overwhelmed. It’s funny that even though he never once called Ai mom, the minute he was in front of Akane acting as Ai he reverted to a son doing whatever his mom asks.
One thing that I find interesting is that Aqua only really smiles around Kana. The scene when their just throwing the ball around and talking is the first time we've seen him genuinely smile since episode one.
He gave her a slight smile in ep 3 when she told him she's glad he's still in the industry. And I think he also smiled when he saw her performance in ep 4.
I'm noticing that Aqua is a bit of an unreliable narrator - not in that he tells us events incorrectly, but that he is really not the best judge of his own character. We saw him earlier on sabotaging Ruby's chances to be an idol, only to completely acquiesce when Strawberry Productions started up their own idol group. In this episode, he drops the whole 'I can use Akane' line, and then immediately follows that up by being completely honest with her and treating her with directness and respect. I think that Aqua sees himself as a darker, more heartless person than he really is. I feel like the sheer magnitude of care that he has for people shows through in his actions, even immediately after he tries to convince us of how dark his intentions are.
The thing with Ruby is he realized she is smart enough to figure it out at some point so it was best if he can't stop her to make sure she did it in a safe way. I think the thing with Akane is more like he plans on using her but he realizes that lying the minimal amount is the best way to go about that. I kind of get the feeling he is less unreliable narrator and more just practical. He probably would be willing to go super dark if he needed to but the people around are his friends so he doesn't really need to in order to get what he wants.
Aqua's whole plan to just got more information about who is father was while using Akane for the job is honestly quite sad, you have Akane and Kana who really likes Aqua while only using them for revenge, clearly he knows what he is doing yet tries to avoid the selfish behavior.
Animation studio is just flexing at this point lol there's no reason for that ball catching scene to be animated so well. And MEMcho's shining eyes gave me goosebumps at the same level of Akane's Ai Impression last episode

For a bit of added context: when kana says “delusions of grandeur” the word she uses is chūnibyō which usually gets translated as “eighth grader syndrome” in other anime shows. I’m sure most hardcore weebs are familiar with the term but it usually describes characters who are desperate for attention so they fake having special powers, secret knowledge, or that they are at the center of some kind of major conspiracy. First trying to prevent her from being an Idol, and now even helping her form the group by scouting all of the members (Kana and Mem-cho). The playing catch thing feels like a dad thing to do, playing catch while talking about life or working things out with a friend or his kid. Shows he is still a middle age dude at heart, put her in the son zone.
I actually really recommend Episode 7.5, which, while it is a recap episode, also has pretty chunky segments of interviews from the actors of Aqua and Ruby.
Her comments praising the lighting and colors in the night city at the end remind me, she would love that style in "Call of the Night." Plus, it's got at awesome 'Creepy Nuts' soundtrack.
Man the way the animation captures emotion is captivating. Mem’s face at the end had me randomly tearing up because it truly communicates exactly the feeling of her buried dream that was pushed aside for years finally becoming a possibility. That maybe it’s worth dreaming about again. Another thing I love is the contrast the show has with this driven, dark, manipulative protagonist type (ala death note or something) but perfectly balanced out by a support network he can’t ignore. Every time he starts to have this moment of being kinda an asshole to get what he wants (keep Ruby from being an idol, lying to Akane about his feelings) someone catches on to him just enough that he’ll admit it and let them influence him (she can only become an idol with Strawberry, agreeing that it’s only a work relationship). While those dark protags are interesting to watch, I never feel like I can really root for them because it feels like they’re slowly losing themselves and their humanity, but the people around Aqua keep him grounded and remind him that he’s a good person who cares about others, even if they have no idea what he’s going through.

Great reaction as always alicia
I feel like this episode wrapped up the dating show plot pretty well, while also setting up new developments. We got a heart broken Kana, the information on Ai from the director and Aqua recruited an actress and an idol. Can‘t wait to see what happens between here and the end of the season!
Forgive me if I'm being assumptious, but I feel like this is your show. It just resonates with you on such a personal level, and you can recognize so many subtle stuff about it. There are very few shows that are capable of connecting with us to this extent. Anyways, even if it isn't really my genre, I'm enjoying the ride so far, thanks for helping me discover it.
I'm so glad someone else caught that Akane while not slipping fully back into character at the wrap party was still pushing Aqua's buttons with little bits of it. I don't know yet if that was intentional or lingering bits of the method-acting. I heard Anthony Hopkin's wife made him move out until Silence of the Lambs was done filming because of how much he was immersed in the character.
One thing I like about this show (even though probably unrealistic) is that the group of the reality stars are actually friends outside of casting and their on-stage production of proposing feelings and such is just an act. Aqua learned quite a bit through this entire thing and I feel that whole ordeal was great for him to make those kind of connections. I do love Mem-Cho though. She is my fav of the chars, even though everyone loves Akane. Waiting for her to peak. I am on team Kana so far and the game of catch was super cute for Aqua viewing her as someone he can confide in comfortably even if he sees her as just a confidant. He literally got her on a idol group with his sister who she proclaims he has a sis complex lol so that says something.
I randomly went back to watch Paĝo no ko reactions and I'm sorry you had to go through the things you went through and I'm glad you're still standing strong. Akane is by far mt favorite character. Idk if you read the manga after this or if you prefer to wait for the anime, but whatever the case, I promise you Akane is an absolute unit of a character. I have to hold myself from dropping spoilers, but yeah Akane is an amazing character
I think the in the scene where they were playing catch Aqua was actually being genuine. He sought Kana as a friend because he needed to sort out his feelings about Akane.
Aqua is a weird character, for sure. He's manipulative, obsessive and controlling, but he isn't often malicious about it. If he can, he will often help the people he is using. He gave Kana a chance to shine after he got the one guy's DNA, and wasn't really thinking of how she'd return the favor at the time. He then helped give her a new chance as an idol. Sure it was to benefit his sister, but it was also to Kana's benefit as well. He saved Akane because in the end he doesn't want anyone to be harmed. He was a doctor because he genuinely wanted to help people, and even in his warpath, he carries that kindness with him. He pushes people away because at the end of the day, he doesn't want anyone else to be a casualty in his quest for revenge. I'd speak more about it, but that would get into spoiler territory. But ultimately, even in his darkest moments he can't help but care about people and tries to do right by them. Even if he himself doesn't realize it, he isn't quite the villain he's sworn himself to be. I look forward to discussing this more when future episodes and future seasons come out and we can compare him to other characters. This series is amazing, and I look forward to the rest of the anime.
Aqua may not show it, but im sure he cares more than he shows and I like how the manga and anime blurs that line to make it seem vague even to the character himself
I love Ruby and all, but right now everything involveing Aqua is much better in my opnion. From his complex thoughts and emptions to the ulteior motives to the mental battles. So instresting.
i dont blame aqua here at all. his whole life (and for a bit of his previous one too) he has seen Hoshino Ai as this perfect unobtainable natural genius of the entertainment industry, something that is unique to her and her alone, a goddess of her craft. and then this random girl he saved one day PERFECTLY copies that charm and vibrance that he believed to be one-of-a-kind. i would be rattled to my core as well, especially since ITS HIS FUCKEN MOM SHE'S COPYING HERE Akane is absolutely one of my favorite characters in the series, her talent for completely changing herself into another role or character is terrifyingly beautiful
If you liked the scenery and over all the vibe of the scene in the end there's anime called:" call of the night " and it's anime with the strongest atmosphere i have ever seen and every time I watch it sleeping feels so good
All this talk of being the rat queen and Aqua being a rat on some snake shit has me thinking we should get her to react to Fruits Basket. That would be a fun psychology session.
@@NamelessDemonkitten I mean, Rudeus is meant to be a heavily flawed character your not meant to actually like as a person. The reason people actually likes Rudeus is that he evolves through out the whole story not being the same as when it started. It's all about a heavily flawed character redeeming himself as he lives his new life.
@@zackrose6261 I always find the Rudeus hate a bit weird personally. Guy is a pervert but he is like 99 percent the stereotypical Japanese nice guy in a bloody setting where he could get away with a lot of shit from social status alone. On the protagonist scale he is a highly nice person who doesn't abuse his social status or power. Compare that to some protagonists I know who start like holy wars that cause the death of millions of people and stuff on that scale and he doesn't really get anywhere close.
Aqua basiclaly used Kana to gauge wether he was feeling romantic feelings for Akane or not. Since he feels them for Kana he was trying to compare the two. He is atleast self aware to a degree
Tbh I think Aqua WAS prepared to fully use/manipulate Akane on a long term basis, as he suggested during his smooch scene inner monologue ... but Akane was too smart to fall for it and was able to get the truth out of him. While Kana may like Aqua more (and vice versa) Akane is definitely the better ship at this point of the story because she's much better equipped to handle the way he is.
When Aqua seems to up to the least shit, he's up to the most shit for sure every time. Also, I think its kind of sad what he said about his brain development and having infantile amnesia. That means he might not have as many strong memories of Ai as his mother as we do, and that further complicates his thoughts on her and his own existence. Also also, I feel sorry for Aqua because he's not really living his life for himself. All the plans he makes, all the things he does are just for his all-consuming revenge plot and he's never really established any goals of his own or dreams or wants.
Actually it's the other way around you can only see aqua without any motive when he is with kana 😂😂 And that so dark oh so useful relationship they really love that 😂 makes me kinda feel a weird feeling not gonna lie People passion+ sympathy to somebody can easily meld to something so fast i guess 😅

If I could level one complaint at the episode is how quick it goes. I would have enjoyed more time seeing reactions to Akane, like more Ruby, and seeing Akane turn the chemistry of the cast upside down then having Aqua's approach of Kanna be the cliff hanger. Give us more time with Ruby and Kanna struggling with being youtubers. Events just speed past too quickly.
I really love this series and so far I'm really enjoying the manga, Aqua maybe somewhat an odd character but I really like on what the author is writing for his character.
By the logic which you displayed. Would you say that you would feel creeped out if Ruby went out with an older dude? Considering Ruby was 12 when she died. Or younger aged kids that got reincarnated dont get any ethical quandries at all? Edit: In no way am I criticising the way you approached it by the way if you yourself said that you have come to terms with him simply having a mature mind that surpasses his own age and that helps you deal with those ethical quandries surrounding aqua, the inverse should still concern you, meaning Ruby whom she herself at times has a very youthful mind that some would say is too childish and too idealistic and probably be categorised as a "brattish" behavior. I'm just saying we cant just focus on Aqua simply because he's the easy target and the better conversational point would have been to keep in mind that both have the opposite age sepectrum, one who died in his 30's and the other who died in her pre-teens
@ArchonKujo he is. I'm just saying he's using the word technically wrong. "Technically" is used to denote the factual/ most logical stance in an idea. Or to exaggerate a factual truth. Aqua is technically a teen. Just with memories and personality of his old life. Yes this is dumb and splitting hairs lol. I'm just fuckin' bored. Woke up at like 4 am and got absolutely fuck all to do. So I'm gonna be a pedantic asshole lol.
Aqua is in a strange situation to say the least… I personally find that mental age is more important than physical age. When you are young, your prefrontal cortex has not been fully developed yet. Not until you are about 25 years old. So even though Aqua has the memories and experiences of a 30 year old, he is still handicapped by his brains physical maturity. All this considered though… he is clearly well into being a mental adult even as a physical baby. It’s a strange dilemma that can really only happen in fiction thank goodness lol. I think it would be far more creepy to be mentally a child in a adults body, instead of a mental adult in a child’s body. Experiences shape who we truly are I feel. Aqua is technically 47, taking into account that he has 47 years of life’s experiences. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Disagree with most of this. Aqua is as old as he was when he died. He hasnt had many new experiences except for when he was very young and these last two steps into acting. I see him as a mid 20's dude mentally. A smart mid twenties. Dude was a doctor after all. But not even close to 47. And like he said in this episode, hes essentially regressing to his appropriate(physically) mental age as this goes on. That was his whole point with his old self and aqua becoming indistinguishable. I really dont understand what peoples hangups on this is.

Akane is by far mt favorite character. Idk if you read the manga after this or if you prefer to wait for the anime, but whatever the case, I promise you Akane is an absolute unit of a character. I have to hold myself from dropping spoilers, but yeah Akane is an amazing character
Congrats on catching up lol. Thanks for the reaction as always.
I know it's gonna be a good day when we get an Oshi no Ko reaction episode from Alicia !
I think the in the scene where they were playing catch Aqua was actually being genuine. He sought Kana as a friend because he needed to sort out his feelings about Akane.
You can just tell being an idol is really Mem-cho's dream with that look, possibly even because of Ai and B-Komachi
Lol you didn't cry but I did, that last scene she seemed so happy she couldn't believe it made me start tearing up
Mem: "Nah bro, you capping"
Aqua: 🗿
Aqua may not show it, but im sure he cares more than he shows and I like how the manga and anime blurs that line to make it seem vague even to the character himself
it's so cool i caught up to your vids the same time you caught up to the anime now im here for the journey!!
I noticed that aqua never once called AI mom. I wonder if he will ever do that.
I love Ruby and all, but right now everything involveing Aqua is much better in my opnion. From his complex thoughts and emptions to the ulteior motives to the mental battles. So instresting.
Akane deserve better and also I thought I'm the only one who simps for memcho because she so cute!!!
i dont blame aqua here at all. his whole life (and for a bit of his previous one too) he has seen Hoshino Ai as this perfect unobtainable natural genius of the entertainment industry, something that is unique to her and her alone, a goddess of her craft.
and then this random girl he saved one day PERFECTLY copies that charm and vibrance that he believed to be one-of-a-kind. i would be rattled to my core as well, especially since ITS HIS FUCKEN MOM SHE'S COPYING HERE
Akane is absolutely one of my favorite characters in the series, her talent for completely changing herself into another role or character is terrifyingly beautiful
Zeke Yeager is the father of Aqua thats why he plays catch XD
aqua's manipulation is the best kind of manipulation. His honesty really helps a lot
If you liked the scenery and over all the vibe of the scene in the end there's anime called:" call of the night " and it's anime with the strongest atmosphere i have ever seen and every time I watch it sleeping feels so good
i adored the last shot of this episode, she is great.
Fun fact the third member mem is acuallly a real vtuber from the official site of oshi noko
All this talk of being the rat queen and Aqua being a rat on some snake shit has me thinking we should get her to react to Fruits Basket. That would be a fun psychology session.
Now i wanted her to watch Mushoku Tensei just to be freaked out and see if she change her view on Rudeus as the story goes
Hasn’t she already seen it? If I remember correctly she mentioned MT in a previous ONK reaction video.
@@noble7065 yeah she brought it up in another episode talking about how Aqua is much better handled then that f i l t h
10:22 I THOUGHT THAT DIDN'T EXIST! which is iiiitt
You knew Akane would find out that Ai had a secret child and it came true. Let's just say she finds out everything.
Actually it's the other way around you can only see aqua without any motive when he is with kana 😂😂
And that so dark oh so useful relationship they really love that 😂 makes me kinda feel a weird feeling not gonna lie
People passion+ sympathy to somebody can easily meld to something so fast i guess 😅
Such a good show, sad we only have a few more episodes!
I usually don't relate when people say something made them feel old but 28:31 made me feel pretty old.
14:12 *When you put this on out of context*
24:07 *Both. Just both ngl*
21:42 That aged like milk within the next 3 seconds lol
My Boi turned into Kira from Deathnote
i just caught up on the manga oh boy 🥲get ready
aqua cant disobey mommy that's why get got memchos pouch. that wasnt akane asking that was mom
No matter how cute she is ai is still an asian mom he probably followed akane's requests from deep rotted trauma from following asian parents orders to a t
Freud would have a field day with Aqua...
What a great eps!!
Now it's time for Mem-cho on the spotlight!! 😢😢
The best reactions I found!
Akane just did the woman trump card to get her man, pretend to be her man's mom.
4:12 you need to understand ai is a lot of things to aqua... mother, idol(fan), and maybe some levels of romance ....
I really love this series and so far I'm really enjoying the manga, Aqua maybe somewhat an odd character but I really like on what the author is writing for his character.
How far are you in the manga?
Aqua: Hey, does anyone know what music teenage girls listen to? I'm not trying to date I want to manipulate women
Now Aqua don’t be mean, listen to your mommy
Exactly.
yeah... hated that aqua did this, but think about it... maybe he's got a bit of his father in him 🤔
18:17 ayooo the the F thats kinda sus
If you love shows with babies Hunter x Hunter qnd Spy x Family would be just up your alley.
I still have a vcr, i know what you're talking about
great video alic
I keep seeing so what I’m a spider when talking about patroon? I was wondering if that series would go up on UA-cam or if it’s a pattern exclusive?
spider is staying as a patreon exclusive. Sometimes I bring exclusives over but that one is staying on there :)
Does she stop reacting to JoJo part 6?
Mem Time!
'He likes milfs' he technically is an adult so its a good thing atleast
Technically he's a teen lol.
@@johnathanera5863I think he is referring to his previous life.
@@johnathanera5863 to be fair my english is the most basic thing so... Sorry? Xd
@Lighto nah you got nothing to apologize for. I'm just being an asshole.
After thining about it The word could be used both ways. So you're right.
Hewwo
Why does Kana feel like a femcel?
Baaaaaa
I really dont understand what peoples hangups on this is.
im pissed at aqua, i thought he was that mf but no, he not a goat, he a fish.
Are you dumb? Did you even watch the video. Dude did literally nothing even questionable.
