  • Sometimes unfortunately the fancier and rarer motorcycles end up relegated to a plinth in a garage, only seeing the tarmac now and again for a special outing.
    Not this one though. James from Superior Motorcycle Experiences is a firm believer that this is wrong and takes every opportunity to put these bikes through their paces.
    Whether it's racing it at Bike Shed festival (and in doing so getting a bit carried away and grinding down the header pipes on the tarmac!), hill climbing it at Goodwood Festival of Speed or taking people and their fleet of six SS100's around the Pyrenees on one of their bespoke premium motorcycle tours, he says this bike is made of so much more than what most people think they're capable of.
    We don't see many of these bikes at the shed, probably for that reason, so when he came down on his, we had a poke around and asked him to tell us more. From clever cantilever front shock, floating quad disc brakes or beautiful CNC machined parts throughout, there's lots to appreciate on this bike.
    The bike will also be with us on display over the winter period so come down and take a look for yourself.

    The cognitive dissonance and ego required to resurrect a mans company that was named after him is off the charts, you have to ask what the goal is in building bikes under the brough name, the only conclusion is you want to take a hard won reputation and prestige from a long defunct company and pretend that these bikes have earned that as well, they haven't, and if this is some sort of homage to broughs then there is nothing wrong with calling them something else, people would still be able to tell what the influences are, such a cop out!

      Ya, I agree. A bit weird. There would be nothing wrong with bringing out this bike as a new retro-styled boutique bike. I personally quite like both the style and the finish, and performance seems quite good. Keanu Reeves did it with Arch, and he's building his own legacy. Don't see why this couldn't have been done here.

      I would add that the finishes are beautiful as well as the bikes but they take the wrong approach compared to the true spirit of Brough Superior and I think they are capable of doing better if they change course. Of course, they can always keep a model in the cafe racer genre as many current manufacturers do.

    Recently at a bike event, a guy in his expensive leather Belstaff look-alike appeared on his 1930's Brough SS100, he mingled around for about an hour then left only to appear about 30 mins later on one of these, again mingled for about an hour then left only to appear back on his Vincent Rapide.
    SS100 and Rapide - 2 beautiful bikes. This bike??? the engine V angle is all wrong, needs spoke wheels, silencers should be horizontal and with fin-tails. Lucky guy though and absolutely no envy.

    It's interesting, but it seems like it doesn't know what it wants to be. Kind of a frankenstein combo of new and old. I"m sure a lot of people love the look but it doesn't quite work for me.

      Dave7777 I would have preferred they made an exact replica, like Pur Sang do with their replica Bugattis. There would be endless demand for a new 1930s model Brough.

      New and old isn't that the idea of Retro which is extremely popular now? Indian Vincent Royal Enfield, Triumph, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki etc. Its called supplying what people want and business to make money.
      I will agree with you on this one, it doesn't do it for me either - that engine is hideous - the V is too big an angle,, it should have replicated the JAP or Matchless 1000cc engines of the day.
      Plebs like me will never own one and the way the collectors market is many will be bought as investments even by none motorcyclists.
      These are my humble opinions.

    • @ReferenceFidelityComponents
      @ReferenceFidelityComponents 4 роки тому +4

      Dave7777 I agree. It seems like a rich man's idea of a collection piece a bit like a Rolex is to watches...ie expensive but not necessarily any better than bikes at half the cost to ride. What us it? Not a sports bike bike...not a sporsts tourer like the original and not even a replica. The original was a collection of the finest bits made by others built together and using a bespoke tank. This isn't that either. Its a sort of retro mess of ideas none of which blend harmoniously on the eye.
      A true homage would have been a more accurate replica...more people would have understood that. These are not Broughs...the name may be used but thats it. Personally I think they're ugly and the sound on video anyway is dissapointing. Even if I had the cash I wouldn't buy one for the same reason I wouldn't buy a rolex. Leave it for the wealthy show offs.

    • @martinweiss8087
      @martinweiss8087 4 роки тому

      I talked about the same way as you guys do. A bike that expensive, is tehre anything it can do a 10K bike can't do?? NO, nothing.
      Then I got the chance to testride one and it was like..... I AM HOME, everything felt right. It is lightweight, handlebar, footpegs all where it should be.
      This is pure riding
      Everything on this bike is made only from best materials and designed through and through... OK, the exhaust... I am still not friend of it, but I am getting used to it.
      Anyway, 5 month after my testride, slepless nights, reading everything that ever was written about htis bikes, watched every video ever made about it
      I added a SS100 to my bike gargae.
      The look? Never argue about design, not everybody has the same taste and I am happy about this. It would be boring if all would ride the same bike.

    It has a nice tank, and all the machining. But some of the details like the wheels, light and back end are too modern looking and clash with the retro appearance. And the radiator is just hung off the front. Triumph Bonneville or Indian Scout have gotten the retro look down much better, this is a style salad.

    The part I dislike the most are the headlights: they're an exact copy of Harley Davidson's "Day Maker". Or was that an homage to how the original Brough used Harley forks? Anyways, the part I like best are those brakes! They sure look innovative but curious to feel how they work. He said @1:56 "you need no energy on that brake [lever] at all to get all the stopping power..." But IMO the more stopping power and the more sensitive the lever, particularly on a street bike, the more there is a need for ABS. I don't know if it's just nerves from being on camera, but a few things he said makes me think that this guy either knows very little about motorcycles, or he's a complete idiot: @2:50 "forward controls here and there for making the most comfy grips"? Maybe it's a Brit thing but over here, "forward controls" are foot controls and have nothing to do with grips. @2:55 "Stylish mirrors"? They're off the shelf round mirrors... just like the ones my 8yr old has on his bike! @3:05 "barrel into a corner on one of these and grab a whole bunch of that front brake". Who does that?! Great way to crash your limited production bike... especially when you've got no ABS. @3:36 "This particular bike is 101, we've got 93 and 96, and you know, six other numbers" Ok, maybe they didn't get consecutive serial numbers; but if they did... 🤔 @3:54 "Vtwin thats been built by Akira... they make World Superbike and BSB engines, they do some stuff for some of the big five". Akira certainly makes fine engines but I'd be curious to know, I'm sure Kawasaki would too, who else they're building engines for in WSBK and BSB. @4:07 "A thousand cc vtwin with a really big angle on it". It's 990cc set at 88 degrees, Ducati uses a wider 90 degree V. @6:20 "If you wanted to gear the bike up... it would have to be done inside the engine". That is totally inaccurate: there is absolutely no need to go inside the engine, the front sprocket is an external part that's simply attached to the transmission output shaft and changing it is no more involved than changing the rear sprocket.
    I rest my case.
    As a side note: I know he didn't design the bike, but if what he described @5:10 is accurate, then that's a terrible design. With multiple pockets of fuel in different locations, the bike's center of mass will constantly be changing as the gas is used up; they should have just stuffed all the electronics under the seat and all the gas in the traditional tank.

    Nice work. Not a fan when bikes are just used as showpieces.

    A desperate attempt to cash in on the Brough name. Its designed in France and built in France by an Austrian company. What a joke. Only ever seen them for sale as ex-demos or new 'from stock' so no one wants them either

    when the guy says its an M. K. 2 ,,, you know what the rest of his thoughts are worth ,,, still a nice bike . I made it to 2:42 .. bits on top to hold the handle bars in ,,,,,,,epic ,,, has to be the worst guy in the world to do this video.
    Still a nice bike though.
    What a shame it sounds like a rotavator.
