Yes, this is indeed the DG studio recording from July 1962. Still magnificent and still underrated to the present day. Scotto was in her stupendous prime and so was Bastianini, easily the finest Germont on record. Raimondi may not be quite on their level, but he is a stylish and intelligent singer who should be better known.
Just wanted to let you know that this is the first of the two recordings of Traviata by Scotto this is not live but a studio recording with the Scala orchestra and Votto's baton
1962 Traviata G. Verdi "E strano... Ah, fors'è lui... Sempre libera" (live in 1962) Renata Scotto Recorded live at La Scala in 1962 with Gianni Raimondi and conducted by Antonino Votto.
I think this is a Deutsche Grammophon recording "La Traviata - Renata Scotto, Gianni Raimondi, Ettore Bastianini , Coro* e Orchestra Del Teatro Alla Scala, Antonino Votto, Maestro Del Coro : Norberto Mola" - Recorded in July 1962 in Milano
“Her voice is more beautiful” =))) Yes beautiful like sour of vinegar and sounds of sick cat “Real coloratura “ Yes and she was the real copied wobbles - machine of Callas.
What a shame that she pushed her magnificent lyrico-spinto voice [good for the middle and early Verdi roles, some of the lighter bel canto roles, some Puccini and lighter verismo roles] into the heavy Verdi, bel canto, and verismo roles. She ruined her voice by pushing it so far.
Yes, she pushed her voice too hard, and it was catastrophic. But early on, her voice was glorious. Listen to some of the early bel canto, which is measurably better than this.
I never heard in the house until much later. She's quite good here, but when I heard her she was unlistenable. Squally, off key flatting high notes, squwaking coloratura. This is the best I have ever heard her.
I saw both of these sopranos in this role and Cotrubas was far better across the entire role than Scotto who tended to overact and push her voice in the heavier parts of the role. Cotrubas sang this at the Chicago Lyric in the production first designed for Callas and only used again for Cotrubas. This says something about how directors and producers saw her as a complete opera performer not just a singer.
Ciao.
If this is a performance in front of an audience, where is the applause? This must not be live. As for the singing: this recording makes it clear that (even early) Renata Scotto had the worst features of (later) Callas--screechy, thin high (and even lower) notes, for example--and NONE of Callas' genius. I am amazed that anyone would want to listen to this more than once. For me, the last good thing Scotto sang was in 1960; all downhill after that. How on earth did she convince the Met to allow her to sing into the 1980s??? Scotto is the most over-rated soprano of the 20th century.
I think her mid low and low range here are weak, but listening to her singing Macbeth in the 80s, she had more power and brilliance down there while still having gorgeous pianissimi. Here I think beyong high C# she's too shrill for my taste.
She could still sing a pianissimo but they were a falsetto and not properly supported by the breath. When she tried to sing forte the voice was horrible at that point. She was never more than a coloratura, and only a mediocre one at that.
Una voce che entra nell'anima!! Divina!!!
Omg! What a talent, what a voice, what a technique! Rip
SUPERBA! My favorite soprano
My favourite Violetta, and also Butterfly. She has nothing to envy to Maria Callas (another of my favourites). A wonderful voice and interpretation
¡La mejor!
¡Definitivamente!
Stupenda… rip Signora Scotto ❤
Interpretazione da brividi! Stupenda voce, note alte da capogiro! ❤

Grandissima.
Wonderfully sung from the soul.
No matter who sings this aria from La Traviata. I am in awe as to the stamina of the ladies that sing it. Almost 10 minutes of operatic bliss.
I saw this singer in a concert. It was fabulous.
Lucky you 😍

Utterly gorgeous singing!
Amazing. Scotto in her prime could sing anything.
She has and has destroyed her voice!
Just like corelli and di stefano...
Ok studio now I read it! Still spectacular! Live would have been out of this world (human beings must breath from time to time....)

Sería una Isolda perfecta muy wagneriana!!!
Scotto, Callas, Freni e Bidu Saião são imbatíveis .
Norma Ramos, Callas...Moffo....le altre in grande lontananza.
This is as heavy a role as she should have ever sung. There was something about her highest notes that always sounded pinched, from B-flat up.
beg to differ....old school scotto had the best high notes. check out her Adina. She floated a high C like it was nothing
Shahrdad The alley catish. Sorry . 😨 Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Onigbajamo yes, that glauce was good
