Gives a lot of hope that someone can make something so important and impactful and be successful because of it

I really like Tv glow and i think its a really important benchmark in queer cinema. But I think when thinking about the 'most important film of the year' i dont think it is, maybe it could be influential but time will tell. My pick for that is probably The Seed of the Sacred Fig (a family drama telling how Iran silences there population and artists) or the brutalist (my choice for the film of the year but also a story kinda similar to tv glow honestly about how immigrants and the 'american dream' is just used for oppression and a ploy for more people to live in the US), but even if i disagree w you, i loved the video! Def dropping a like!

I'm much more of an adherent of Death of the Author interpretative discussion of creative work because I think empirically describing creative work is basically only useful in a consumer review style evaluation of whether the author did a good job providing the message they intended to. Free interpretation and discussion thereof instead keeps you engaged with the creative work on a deeper level.
Especially related to all the occupation people have with gender and sexuality nowadays, I find it inappropriate and unproductive for basically everything under the sun to be given credence when someone interprets a gender or sexuality allegory into it, but if someone wants to offer a similarly stretched interpretation of a non-gender or sexuality theme into something intended as having one then it becomes a narrower discussion of authorial intent.
The intellectual exercise of trying to argue Full Metal Jacket is an allegory for repressed sexuality is more stimulating than just discussing its role as a Vietnam War movie, so stretching a movie like this outside of authorial intent can be just as engaging.
