Rickey Henderson was unbelievably entertaining. Players like him make baseball fun to watch. Very rare combo of speed, plate discipline and power. He was weird and I'm sure opposing pitchers couldn't stand his showboating antics, but you could never accuse him of being boring.
Rickey was the best baby. I have a ball he tossed to us then we dropped it and he made sure we got the next one. Lol. Oakland was the best place for him. Rickey we love you and you are the greatest of all time. Baseball is not the same now players are all about the money rather then the love of the game. Great job putting this master piece together
One of the most exciting players the game has ever seen. I'm old enough to have seen him when he played. Believe me, we blinked in amazement at this guy. There was nobody who could match him.
EXACTLY,u had guys that came around who could steal lots of bases like vince Coleman who grabbed like 110 bases one yr,but that was the extent of his offense,RICKEY could tag ya for 25 plus dingers and I always thought he was capable of more HR production than that, but it was EXTREMELY important for him to get on base as well, cuz he had some serious lumber behind him in McGwire and Canseco and in NYY he had Mattingly and Winfield !!
@@raypratt3611 Yup! All the SB specialists fizzled out in their early 30s. Rickey played till his mid-40s because he wasn't a SB specialist! Elite in every aspect of offense
GREATEST PLAYER EVER!!! Also the most underrated player in baseball when he played during the peak of his career. The moment he got on base, the game then just revolved around stopping Rickey from stealing. 130 stolen bases in a single season. Think about that. Its almost 1 stolen base a game. Just walking him creates a rally.
I grew up a Yankee fan and loved watching Ricky play. Almost every game he played in, the Yankees would lead 1-0 in the first inning, He would either hit a HR, walk, single, steal 2nd, steal 3rd, and then he would score. Too bad they couldn't pitch, cause they would always lose that lead. He used to drive me nuts with that "snatch catch" though. I was sure that one of those days, the ball would come flying out of his glove or hit him in the face, but I never saw it. He truly was a character.
Hell yeah man!. ricky was the best. he could hit for power, speed, contact EVERYTHING. the dude stole 1.5k bases. Jesus christ no ones EVER coming near that!.
There were few things more fun than watching a pitcher come completely unhinged trying to keep Rickey on 1st or 2nd. LOL!! They knew what he was going to do, everyone knew, he'd take a huge lead off the base...fingers start wiggling... GONE! Pitchers could not turn and throw fast enough to get him. I miss those days.
I watched Ricky Henderson when I was a teenager. Very entertaining. The Oakland A's tailored and catered to his base sttealing. People were watching the game more for his base stealing count than whether the A's won or not. He was a legend already, contemporaneously. I'm so glad he was playing for my favorite charming team, the Oakland A's.
Great vid. Song fits the man as well. Wish there were more clips of him on the Yankees. His 1985 season is under appreciated: 9.8 WAR compared to MVP winner Mattingly's 6.4.
Awesome video. You are the man for making this. You never really realize how great a player was until 10 years later. Robbie Alomar was another great - but he was no Rickey.
Joe Morgan was my favorite ballplayer, with Rickey being a close second!! These two players had style, speed, power, and a great knowledge of the strike zone, and they both made pitchers nervous!! They both can change the whole game in a LOT of ways!!
I love it when a star athlete has a bit of craziness to him. Not arrogance, just a twist of homeless crazy guy of lol. Makes you wonder if he is really all there.
smithraymond09029 Don't get it wrong.. he was beyond arrogant.. lol. The good thing about him was he could always seem to back it up, even in his later years when he was still one of the better leadoff guys in the game.
The winningest athletes have a touch of crazy. Michael Jordan, for instance, was a compulsive for alcohol, gambling, sex and anything that gave him a thrill. Luckily, he spent about half of his waking hours on basketball instead of golf. Same with Rickey. That's why his teams won two World Series. And all his Yankees teams, even during their 1980s drought, were easily winning teams.
I just wish there was a guy who had the character of Ricky but also the mad skill to back up the outrageous antics in baseball today. There just is no one that comes to mind who plays the game like he knows he is the best in baseball and hustles hard! We need speed demons again. And in looking at his career BB%, it is 16.4%!!!!! That is awesome, especially when in his heyday he was taking 90+ BB regularly as a leadoff hitter. THAT's what a leadoff man is supposed to do!
the object of any sport is too outscore the other team/player by any means...rickey henderson ,by any means walks, hits, steals and intimidating an opponent into mistakes..scored the most in baseball history
Joe Mazzi CheapBats.com Here's a look at Rickey Henderson's stats during the seasons he was not a member of the Oakland Athletics or the New York Yankees: 1.(1993 Toronto Blue Jays):44 GP, 35 hits, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 22 SB, 25.3 runs created 2.(1996 San Diego Padres):148 GP, 112 hits, 9 HR, 29 RBI, 37 SB, 81.0 runs created 3.(1997 San Diego Padres):88 GP, 79 hits, 6 HR, 27 RBI, 29 SB, 56.1 runs created 4.(1997 Anaheim Angels):32 GP, 21 hits, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 16 SB, 13.5 runs created 5.(1999 New York Mets):121 GP, 138 hits, 12 HR, 42 RBI, 37 SB, 95.8 runs created 6.(2000 New York Mets):31 GP, 21 hits, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 5 SB, 11.3 runs created 7.(2000 Seattle Mariners):92 GP, 77 hits, 4 HR, 30 RBI, 31 SB, 44.6 runs created 8.(2001 San Diego Padres):123 GP, 86 hits, 8 HR, 42 RBI, 25 SB, 56.3 runs created 9.(2002 Boston Red Sox):72 GP, 40 hits, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 8 SB, 27.3 runs created 10.(2003 Los Angeles Dodgers):30 GP, 15 hits, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 SB, 8.6 runs created. Which non-Athletics/Yankees version of Rickey Henderson do you think has the best all-around stats? And which non-Athletics/Yankees Rickey Henderson do you think has the worst all-around stats?
"Rickey why's you swing at that Rickey? Make sure you get the fastball, Rickey, he can't beat you with it. " Hahaha heck of a guy I guess all they could do was stare
I saw him after an As game, driving away in his shiny black car. I wish I would have waved to him, but I couldn't believe it was really him (+ I''m shy). Anyway, my all-time favorite player & I still cherish the moment.
Best all around player in history, even more so than Ty Cobb. Not only is this claim statistically substantiated, but Rickey had to have been the most disruptive opponent for a pitcher to deal with, plus his defense was another intangible to be taken into account. These intangibles COMBINED with his speed, lead off power (and longevity) make him the most complete player in MLB history
For all his stolen bases, I saw him play for the yankees for four years and not once did he beat out a groundball for a hit. He only tried once he got on base. Never hustled down the line for fear he may pull his hamstring.
If you think you can do better, be my guest. I didn't want to do a cliche, "epic" sounding montage song. I was trying to capture his character, which I did fairly well. Sure, there are countless other options, but I went with that one. I didn't see a suggestion offered in any of your criticism.
eric chavez, mugeil tejada, mark ellis, jason giambi, billy koch, tim hudson, barry zito, mark mulder, jack cust, andrew bailey, scott hattibergh, theres 11 more
When I was about eight years old, I saw an A's game on television. I was mesmerized watching Rickey Henderson. That would have been 1980 or '81. He became my favorite baseball player that day. Ryan Freel is my second favorite, wherever he is.
Rickey was a badass mofo. My favorite until Griffey Jr. got drafted #1 overall by the M's. Rickey made me an A's fan for a long time, then AND after. He seems like kinda a goofy old bastard but, I love him!!
I can hear it fine. Maybe your computer has issues. Turn up the volume, or maybe do some research and find the original clips. Harold Reynolds tells a story that Rickey called him after the year he led the NL (Harold) in SB, Rickey said "Harold Reynolds? Rickey here. 60 stolen bases? Rickey have 60 at the break," and hung up. That is, "crazy like a fool."
By far, the most pimpin' bat flip home run trot ever...PERIOD! SWAGtastic!
In my 36+ years of watching baseball, no other player since has been as exciting as Rickey! Simply the best lead off hitter ever!
Who was more exciting Griffey Jr or Henderson interested in your answer. Different eras but now I think Tatis and Baez are the most exciting
"Daddy Cool." Excellent choice. Love Ricky. Need more like him.
Ricky Henderson Could do everything, run, hit, steal bases, catch, be flashy and exciting. I love this man.
Rickey Henderson was unbelievably entertaining. Players like him make baseball fun to watch. Very rare combo of speed, plate discipline and power. He was weird and I'm sure opposing pitchers couldn't stand his showboating antics, but you could never accuse him of being boring.
He’s top ten all time. Just add his total bases, walks and net steals. He’s up there with the greatest.
Also holds the All-Time record for Runs
Love this video. Rickey has been my favorite athlete since June 1979 and I saw him on the game of the week on NBC.
He was the best lead off hitter with power ever
2nd in all time walks and first in runs career. Rickey was probably right when he said he was the greatest of all time.
Legend , 1980's was a great era of the game ...One and Only Rickey
Rickey was the best baby. I have a ball he tossed to us then we dropped it and he made sure we got the next one. Lol. Oakland was the best place for him. Most exciting player to watch standing idle in the outfield.

Love the snatch catch! Rickey you da man
He was fun to watch just standing around. Which was important, because there is a lot of that in baseball.
I grew 1up watching Rickey.i lived 80 moles south of oakland.my favorite
My favoriite player of all tiime.
Hell yeah man!. ricky was the best. he could hit for power, speed, contact EVERYTHING. the dude stole 1.5k bases. Jesus christ no ones EVER coming near that!.
Ditto
Me too bro
Same here!

He is a Legend!
My favorite baseball player of all time
A stud if ever there was one. NO ONE today is even close to the player Rickey was. No one.
Ball Player. Showman. Legend.
Awesome video. Well done and an instant classic. Henderson IS the greatest of all time
Too much speed and power the Ali of the base stealers. There will never be another like him👊⚾👊
Played with passion that`s why he was the best
Great vid. Song fits the man as well. Wish there were more clips of him on the Yankees. His 1985 season is under appreciated: 9.8 WAR compared to MVP winner Mattingly's 6.4.
Best number one hitter of all time n on top five of pall time period
Rickey is bad ass as they come. Nobody like him ever. I love you Rickey.
My favorite player of all time !!!!!!!!

loved the way he played baseball.
Ricky was all natural the best sports body any human could ask for
Ricky without a doubt is one of the top 10 best players ever 😎
Aint nobody better. Nobody. Go Rickey!!!!
I love it when a star athlete has a bit of craziness to him. Not arrogance, just a twist of homeless crazy guy of lol. Makes you wonder if he is really all there.

Definitely one if he best ever. Love em or dislike him ya gotta respect how he played the game.
He's the man. barely got to see him play but he is the man
@Berkeleylawyer- I couldn't agree more.
Having Rickey back in Oakland in 89 was like a dream. Amazing ballplayer and personality.
I just wish there was a guy who had the character of Ricky but also the mad skill to back up the outrageous antics in baseball today. The best all-around player I ever saw play.
Ricky should open a school to teach young player how to play with swag.
Simply the greatest
Dope video and phenomenal player..Go A's
Before there was swag, there was my man Rickey Henderson!
the object of any sport is too outscore the other team/player by any means...rickey henderson ,by any means walks, hits, steals and intimidating an opponent into mistakes..scored the most in baseball history
Arguably THE greatest leadoff hitter of all time!?
Ricky Henderson is legend!
They don't make them like that anymore lol he was fun to watch
Awesome job. 3:29 seconds is not enough to do this man justice.
Baseball will never see his kind ever again!!
Mark my words: Nobody will ever steal 100 bases in a season ever again. Rickey Henderson is a true legend, one of a kind
guy is one of the most complete ballplayers of all time and he was injured a lot. probably could have ended up with 4K+ hits.

Filipo Sooa
#2 and #5 the two seasons he played almost a full season for each club.
a career 279 hitter, Henderson hit over 240 once in his last 9 seasons
Other than below average arm in Left, yes
man this cat had the greatest homerun trot ever!! LOL!!!
ricky was a base stealing/running machine, legend has it he ran right out of his shoes once.....burned right through him
Legend. Coolest player ever.
"Rickey why's you swing at that Rickey? Make sure you get the fastball, Rickey, he can't beat you with it. " Hahaha heck of a guy I guess all they could do was stare
THE BEST LEAD OFF HITTER, BEST BASE STEALER EVER....BAR NONE, NO DEBATE!!!!! SWAG DADDY COOL
he stole 109 bases after he turned 40...
nuff said
That's pure insanity.
My favorite ballplayer!
My fave Oakland A hands down and possibly fave in all of baseball. GO A'S!!!!!! #MELVINEFFECT #GOLDJERSEYS
Perfect song.
I met him after my cal ripkem tournament. My team was in the championship we lost 5-6. Me and my family went to burger king and he talked to me
I saw him after an As game, driving away in his shiny black car. I wish I would have waved to him, but I couldn't believe it was really him (+ I''m shy). Anyway, my all-time favorite player & I still cherish the moment.

his defense was below average. mays is the greatest all around player
Absolutely. There are certain records in baseball that will never be broken; the stolen base record is one of them.
I seen Rickey play when he was a Met. I've never seen a player stretch as much between pitches as he did. Maybe, secret to his longevity.
Raw talent the likes you'll never see for awhile. Rickey is multiple times better than Harper. I've seen both play.
Uno de los grandes; inspirador todo un beisbolista, un atleta...!!!😃😄
going to meet Rickey Henderson at the San Francisco Tristar show on April 21, 2013
For all his stolen bases, I saw him play for the yankees for four years and not once did he beat out a groundball for a hit. He only tried once he got on base. Never hustled down the line for fear he may pull his hamstring.
Greates Lead-Off Hitter EVER!!! (Apologies Mr. Cobb but Ricky is!)
Rickey, like yogi Berra, had alot of funny quotes too.
rickey has swag for days
My favorite baseball player of all time. Biggio is my 2nd.
My pick for all time lead off hitter.
Dude would have made a beast of a running back too!
I posted this elsewhere and I'll do the same here. Rickey wasn't a ball player as much as he was a weapon.
HE IS THE GREATEST PLAYER EVER
This might sound crazy, but if I could put an all time team together, Ricky would be my left fielder.
If you think you can do better, be my guest. I didn't want to do a cliche, "epic" sounding montage song. I was trying to capture his character, which I did fairly well. Sure, there are countless other options, but I went with that one. I didn't see a suggestion offered in any of your criticism.

Ricky was as Bad as they eva was. Power and panache the likes we’ll never likely again see. His speed changed the entire game. Amazing.
All he needed was a cape to complete his uniform.
When I was about eight years old, I saw an A's game on television. I was mesmerized watching Rickey Henderson. That would have been 1980 or '81. He became my favorite baseball player that day.
Ryan Freel is my second favorite, wherever he is.
I miss Rickey
He deserves a better video than this.
+Carbon Crank So make one you WOL.
This is a great video!!
yea this is garbage
or simply change the music
So make a better video. ....plus, this music captures Rickey's personalist perfectly. Do you have a better suggestion?
Top 5 all-time Ruth Mays Henderson rose Jeter non pitchers
Rickey and Nolan Ryan.
nice video with nice music. good job
The best ever
La leyenda Ricky Henderson !
I digged the song, but would like you to fade it down a bit when Harold is telling his story.
Love that part, "Ricky had 60 at the break. CLICK"
Rickey was a badass mofo. My favorite until Griffey Jr. got drafted #1 overall by the M's. Rickey made me an A's fan for a long time, then AND after. He seems like kinda a goofy old bastard but, I love him!!

i think the uploader likes that clip of rickey henderson dancing.
The King of SWAG!
2 sports records that will never be broken:
J. Rice touchdowns
&
R. Henderson stolen bases
