This is so true. On my first day of BJJ it was no gi. Our 1st technique was holding our opponent in side control on his RIGHT side and then to arm bar his opposite LEFT arm. Why would someone teach a beginner this on their first day?😐

Life Force Good point, ones skill ultimately boils down to the individual. Yes, the more Martial Arts you know the more well rounded you are. I do believe that if you took 20 people, split them up into 2 teams of 10, and told them that they had to fight each other and could only use 1 Martial Art... The BJJ guys would have the higher percentage of wins most of the time. In addition, If you were forced to fight in the UFC with ONLY ONE Martial Art with only FIVE years of training... Which one style would you choose and why??
Lescouflair Hello. Thank you for your comment and a question. After giving this thought and consideration - I wills this. In my life long per suite of Martial arts studies, I have come to a conclusion , that the only "Complete" Martial Art out there today is "Systema" A Russian martial Art Why Systema? - because it encompasses ALL of nuances, "stand up game ,'punching kicking, elbows, knees, joint manipulations, grappling and ground game, fluidity of movement, economy of energy, and seeking fastest and most efficient way to a resolution of problem. Lescouflair what you said is also true of Traditional Karate. nage-waza and suari-geiko are in the master text of Shotokan. I think finding out what works for the individual (style and group) is most important. That is why the statement "The Best Martial Art" in this video is a low quality and small minded statement.
Theivv IBP How do you think that the Gracie's achieved so much fame and have their art spread like wildfire!? Not only did they say that Gracie Jiu Jitsu was the best but they put their necks on the line to prove it! This incredible Martial Art is currently being taught in the military and among law enforcement personnel across the world. I personally prefer to fight standing up but I've personally used BJJ in a fight and it definitely enabled me to defeat people who were bigger and stronger than I was.
I️ am so excited to get started in Gracie jiu jitsu! I️ have looked at many gyms in my area, but I️ had a fear that other gyms wouldn’t be organized. My wife, and I️ have watched so many videos that now she will be starting with me!
I go to a 'non-gracie' academy but I AGREE with this. This is excellent. Its fair to point out, there is nothing wrong with "competition" or "sport" component based schools, IF that is what your interested in. Its not for everyone and that is ok. It happens to be what I enjoy, I like to go to tournaments and do sport bjj, but its not for everyone. If your going for the self-defense component, then I would for sure go through this program. I have literally seen people show up, day 1, and instructors happen to be teaching de la riva guard that day. Thats what the newbie works on. Thats crazy. lol
I always get emotional when I hear you talk about jiu-jitsu on that very passionate level. I agree that It's not organized. I think It's one of the biggest reason It's not an olympic sport yet.
If it is true Helio Gracie jiujitsu then there is striking taught and defense against striking. Everyone focuses on the grappling but Gracie jiujitsu has striking. It is not a lot of striking but remember this quote "I do not fear the man who practices a thousand different strikes, but the man who practices one strike a thousand times"
I have been an online student for quite some time, never tested, however i have a lot of people who come out to train with me in my garage. Everyone learns alot! For not setting foot in an actual academy, although i have trained in martial arts for 20 plus years, this curriculum, have been a wonderful addition to what i already know! Oss! Gracie bros, you have been some of the best instructors i have never met!
+Pseudo Symmetry I had my partners back and he was a bigger dude and rolled onto my knee. (You get that with more inexperience people, they tend to be a fish out of water and go crazy mode.) There is always a risk involved. My advice would be strengthen joints and take it easy.
Rener I just want to say thank you, your the reason i strated jiu jitsu. and im in my fourth month in jujitsu. thank you and hope you read this. love from DUBAI
I am not experienced in BJJ, so can anyone explain to me how it works by an attack of multiple serious attackers, maybe with sticks or knifes? All i see by BJJ is "wrestling on the ground" and of course that is a worst idea against 2 or more attackers.
+dry Kleinhert BJJ has defeated virtually every Martial Art that has challenged it. Fighting multiple attackers has to do with the persons individual skill as well as the skill and number of attackers. Bass Rutten has claimed to use BJJ to fight multiple attackers and prevail.
My question was about that i saw that BJJ is just wrestle the opponent on the ground (often) but against multiple attackers ist that a bad idea. If you can do other things that would be great. To smash one on the ground will kick him out of course but a lock/bar on the ground (just seen in so many BJJ vids) would be bad...
I live in Lincoln city Oregon its on the coast and I wish you guys taught down here. Or even in Newport Oregon its the next town over and its a little bigger. I own 2 Mexican restaurant called Enrique's in both city's and I would love to take classes and I know alot of people who would to. Thank You.
I believe the rate of dropout is so high because jujitsu is simple and efective and after learning those few techniques Rener talked about, most people will be satisfied and won't be looking forward to learn anymore unless they are interested in sport jujitsu or other deeper -and bigger-purposes.
Great points, in my HS senior year my instructor finished college and moved away I was crushed as I haven't been able to find a reputable school in the 4-5 years since and I haven't lost any of my love for the sport. I wouldn't even mind the blue belt instructor as long as my fellow students have passion. There is literally nothing more valuable for improving in bjj than an equally passionate rolling partners.
Bismarck,ND...this video is awsome I am showing my 6 and 3 year old the little gjj I know I will be purchasing gracie bully proof soon and the blur belt system as Well for my self and wife hoping to continue with gjj in are lives thank you for sharing gjj to the world!! keep it playful
Having been in a traditional system in judo, then one in kendo that was closer to the Gracie philosophy (good structure, not just dependent on one or two teachers, and everyone can be a teacher to someone less experienced - this is discussed in another video on this channel), I can vouch for this philosophy.
Although I do not believe that BJJ is the be-all end-all of martial arts (because going to the ground in a self defence situation is not great at all), I do respect how a BJJ practitioner gains their belts. They have to EARN the belt by gaining MASTERY, meaning that they have to not only demonstrate knowledge of their art, but also the ability to actually use the knowledge against a fully resisting adversary. I’ve done Karate, Aikido, Wing Chun and Krav Maga for a very long time, but I’m seriously considering taking up BJJ because it would require me to put my skills to the test - and I think that is a necessity if any martial art claims to be useable in self defence.
Patrick Richard Many karate, taekwondo, kungfu, etc. martial art schools are giving the arts bad name because they hand out belts in short amount of time with complete disregards to competency.
The Piedmont-Triad NC area (Winston Salem specifically) needs a CTC! If you plan on coming to Elkin anytime soon, please let me know! I'll drag at least 3 people with me to come to any seminar! Elkin is the closest CTC and its an hour away from me...
+GracieBreakdown i started learning jiu jitsu and grappling on my own and after a year and a half of learning on my own i joined a jiu jitsu school,i tapped everyone in that class(blue belts and one purple belt) but everyone hated me bacause I didn't own a gi and tapped everyone with leglocks,I left the school after 3 months because I hated that they excluded leg locks, street self defense and no organized teaching to new students,I feel I'm really talented in jiu jitsu and grappling,I live in croatia and would lile to learn jiu jitsu that teaches takedowns leg locks and street self defense and not that sport bs,thank you ryron and rener you are awesome.
+Ivan Ilić How old are you? It would be probably hard but if you are ever in Slovenia you can come train in ljubljana (BTC) in crlos maia bjj academy he is gracie bjj black belt third stripe he is from rio and trained with the gracies (check our fb page also if you are interested "gracie barra ljubljana") we will also have a seminar in Skardin, croatia (even one of the gracies might come not sure about that just stay tuned on fb if you want) :) ja imam 16 godina i sam 3 stripe belog belta treniram od septembra i super mi je, carlos je stvarno majstor i vrlo dobar covjek uci nas i samo obrambo 1/3 i sport koji isto u vecini radi za na street samo mi pisi ako te interesuje :)
joebeast15 I think I've been pretty explicit in my first comment. Anyway, I mean that no style is invincible or superior to others in an absolute way. If you want to know what I think, than I'll tell you that boxing has the best punches of all MA and excellent footwork, but lacks of everything else; judo has the best KO takedowns and pins, but has no striking; wrestling has insane takedowns as well, but no punches or kicks involved; karate has insane counterpunch skills, nasty kicks that are also difficult to see coming, excellent footwork and speed, it's a deceptive art and involves unorthodox angles of attack, but it's less powerful than boxing in punches and less powerful than muay thai in kicking; Tae kwon do has the same pros and cons of karate, with more emphasis on the kicking aspect of the game; muay thai is overall very powerful and has great conditioning, but it's kind of stiff and the kicks are easy to tell, also its punches are less effective than boxing punches. One must try to impose his game and style, being aware of its own weaknesses. And cross-train.
I agree with most of that. Heres my list of the most effective REAL Martial Arts. Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Wrestling, Muay Thai (kickboxing) and Judo. I am a BJJ brown belt but have trained boxing quite a bit and am a fan of it as well. So I am a mix of mostly BJJ, Wrestling and Boxing.
joebeast15 I forgot to say that bjj has the best ground game, but doesn't have anything else in its arsenal, this is why I stated that it's not the best art, it's not well rounded. Let's say that bjj is mandatory if you want to fight in MMA, but you can't rely only on that, or you'll get murdered. P.S. All the martial arts I've listed are real and effective. There are only fake fighters and poor practitioners, not fake arts.
Well to think that BJJ is only the ground game is ignorant of REAL AUTHENTIC Gracie Jiu Jitsu. The pure version is everything, weapon defense, all manner of wall defenses and techniques, takedowns, wrist locks, throws, headlock escapes, punch defense, sucker punch defenses, kicks, everything really. So to just say BJJ is "just the ground game" is ignorant of its true origins. I train REAL Gracie Jiu Jitsu under Relson so I know. We commonly stress to students in a real street fight you DO NOT want to get into a grappling match. We train like that with eachother to refine our skills and techniques, but in actuality thats the last thing we wanna get into in a real fight, if it happens and we dont have a choice then we can do that too.
As someone who is addicted to your videos on UA-cam. Purchased the bully proof program and is using it w my daughter, have also used the website to find a school in my Seattle market. I would agree. Thanks For great content and resources but most of all sharing your passion and Gracie jiu jitsu
+GracieBreakdown I live in Liverpool an the nearest dojo is about an hour and a half away, based in Stalybridge and being a Uni student, it is very difficult to travel that far while doing uni work and practicing Aikido at the same time. But I'm so wanting to train GJJ and putting it in my lifestyle! Got a lot of respect and thanks for the Gracie family and thanks for replying!
Orphans vs Zombies Aikido has a special place in my heart because it helped be overcome some big obstacles in my life and still does, but i do agree GJJ is the best self defence system out there which is why i want to try it.
+Paul Edwards hi Paul drop the gracie. It will get you killed for real. hit the floor in a pub fight you will get stomped all over. train realistic aikido or jujitsu. don't play games.
Hi Rener, I went to your seminar in Sydney (orange belt, 14 yr old) and I just wanted to let you know that I might be training at your gym around July. +GracieBreakdown
I don't like how this guy claims that it is "THE" most effective martial art. Any martial art can be effective if you practice it enough. For example, I learn Tai Chi, sadly, it's not taught very often as a martial art, but it can be very effective just like every martial art
Well, if this is the BEST-- than one person with no training whatsoever could take the best in the Art down (correct me if I am wrong). Has a bad weakness. One clamp with teeth (tap out). Would be good to know though, in case you do land on the ground.
I agree with LifeForce, martial arts is suppose to be dynamic and adapt according to situations. Taking a holistic approach and applying what techniques from any form works best for that person is true martial arts and not confined to only grapeling. Most street fights usually have multiple people attack at once. The last place you want to be is on the ground jacking up one person while his other 4 friends are jacking you up.
Wrong sir... Wrong BJJ is NOT the most effective style out there my friend. For a ring sport, sure. On the street, when you're faced with 2,3 or more opponents/adversaries... you stay OFF the ground at all costs.
Yes but you need to learn Jiu Jitsu nonetheless because 3 or 4 guys want to get you ON the ground and you need to know how to get back off the ground. The only way to do that as to know how to effectively apply Jiu Jitsu.
Love the fact that you guys anwser to pretty much all the comments, show real dedication even tho you guys are surealy busy people :))) love your videos keep it up, which i could train at a ctc but i train at team bushido in ottawa but much respect to you guys
This guy is an excellent expert jiu jujitsu instructor, but I totally disagree with him saying what he said. There is no such thing as the ultimate martial art. All arts have their strengths as well as weaknesses. Training in several different disciplines will keep you well rounded. Also different arts work for different people. When it comes to defending yourself in a physical altercation, there is no blueprint to the situation.
Is it fair to say to someone who wants to compete, to not go to one of your schools/gracie u.? From what I see, your style of jiu jitsu is more geared for self-defense and open to a broader range of students. There is a Renzo Gracie school nearby and its the only one in town.. So I guess I'm going there..
+mosshark yes it is definitely fair to say that although I train at a ctc and went to a tournament in richmond submission only and got 1st place so it is possible to compete and train at a ctc
+mosshark Even if the only school in town doesn't offer exactly what you want, you might make friends there who are like-minded and interested in doing extra training on the side in a garage, etc.
Rener as many said you an Ryron are the reason I got into jiu-jitsu. Is Ft. Lauderdale Valente Brothers a CTC? I know their school in Miami is but the one in Ft Lauderdale says it an affiliate of Valente Brothers not specifically affiliate of The Gracie Academy. Thanks again for you and your brothers enthusiasm it makes learning fun!
I want to learn BJJ specifically Gracie Jiujitsu. We do not have any CTC here in Springfield Missouri. As I teach martial arts at a church already (Krav Maga and Aikido) I am going to buy the Combatives Video and begin training myself. I plan on eventually opening a CTC here so heads up you have a future CTC in Springfield Missouri
BBJ say they the best because they won lot of competitions lol. but in reality in actual combat include weaponry is different. There are lots of martials arts have strength and weaknesses plus it depends on the individual of the arts.
I live in a small town in the Netherlands too far away from big towns with good bjj dojos. All we have is a small group of fanatics, our senior instructor is a blue belt from 10th planet. Really bless him but the other guys and girl are all judo and Japanese Jiujitsu blackbelts. I'm a almost 25 years of kyukushin under my belt, getting my ass handed to me bjj student. I have a feeling I'm holding everyone back. All they want to do is roll and I don't know how and no one seems to be equipped to get me started on the basics.
Hey, Rener! How about Salt Lake City, Utah??? Pedro (Sauer) used to be out here back in the day, but now I'm not sure if anybody here is officially "Gracie" certified. How about Absolute MMA in West Jordan; Rob Handley owns it. Other instructors include the great Professor Flavio Behring, as well as Pedro Sierra. I used to train at Jeremy Horn's but sadly, I didn't enjoy (some of) the guys there; too much attitude, which I've never seen in any other MMA school. Usually fellow artists seem to respect and support each other (I sure do), but there are a few key players at that school that ruin the vibe/brotherhood (in my experience, as well as a few friends), so like some of my friends, I'm looking to relocate. I've been drilling with friends from various schools, meeting on our own time, using Gracie Breakdown vids and such. We seem to learn as much from those vids (for polishing our techniques). We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mastery vids, by the way!!! That Triple Mastery Threat is one of my go-to positions now :) My life goal/dream/happiness is to one day teach Jiu Jitsu allllll day, every day....what better way to spend life than sharing this gift, learning AND paying it forward... I'd do it for free as long as I had food and a roof over my head :) Jiu-Jitsu is life for me
Is there a Gracie Academy in Prague, Czech Republic? I'm going there for university in September and it has been my wish for three years now to start learning jiu jitsu but its terrible where I live right now (Kuwait)
I have been training at UFC in Torrance for a little over a year with coach Novaes I want to try the Gracie Academy but someone told me I would have to start from scratch. not sure If I want to scrap a year's worth of knowledge. any thoughts
Not true! Knowledge is energy, it cannot be created or destroyed, it just changes forms from time to time. Keep all your knowledge, but come on and let us transfer more to you! Come on a Monday at 6:30pm and ask for Rener.
Not to sound negative, but what have you not done through the Gracie university that you would do different to set up a CTC for someone posting where they live? What other than point someone to the university would you do? Setting up a CTC is not the easiest thing to do and requires a lot of time and money, not to mention it is a business. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors in just that statement "we will see what we can do" because I feel like I know, through what you have said on youtube and university videos, exactly what your role in this matter is. I dont think you would do anything other than point someone to your website. Am I wrong???
Yes. It is a lot of work. And it requires someone in the region who has the time, resources and dedication to pick up the torch and make a decision to get certified and open a CTC. The reason for having you guys post cities is so that prospective instructors in your towns who are one the fence, take action and make it happen. Seeing that there is so much demand is the best motivation for an instructor to make it happen!
hey rener what's up? i lived in sun valley Idaho awsome sky mountain. now i'm back to Brasil. and i was thinking to open a CTC there. but i just began at jiu jitsu.
When he says BJJ is the best its OK, its his opinion. But in my opinion a MA is the best if it works for everybody (in tough self defense), but i dont think that a 120 lbs female can go out of a real attack by a 250 lbs man using BJJ. Its a matter of weight or strength and many people dont like to wrestle or groundfighting (ok, to be good on the ground is a really usefull thing in SD). Esp women dont like these "groping", thats one of the reasons why women dont love Judo...so because everyone have his/hers favs (my wife loves to punch) BJJ is not the best for everyone. Sometimes a hard lowkick, ellbow or knee is the better choice and so its great to train that too (by Muay Thai or Kickboxing). And sometimes it will happen that in a fight (that goes on the ground) some friends or brothers/cousins of the opponent will punch and kick the defender (when the fight starts the defennder thought that they are just watchers). Or the opponent on the ground pulls a knife out...or or or...BJJ is great but maybe not the best (OK, these "My style is the best ever" is the meaning of every Grandmaster or Founder of a System). I dont think that "The Best Martial Art" exist.
If you do a combination of Judo & Karate or Boxing & Wrestling to give yourselves a headstart in a street fight then you don't even need BJJ?? Although BJJ is hard work and a very effective technique wise then you don't really want to be in guard position outside a nightclub or pub on a wet Friday night!!!
I was training at Urijah Faber's Ultimate Fitness in Sacramento but moved back down to Southern California. I'm currently not training but I really hope I am able to soon! GracieBreakdown i'd love to meet up with you sometime!
mmmm I think an expert Muay Thai guy would be able to take down an expert Jui Jitsu guy with no firm knowledge of striking. No doubt BJJ is extremely effective....but so is Muay Thai. For every Hoyce Gracie vs Kino, you can find a Rousey vs Holm example. You need BOTH striking and Grappling to be effective. That means mastering multiple styles with both grappling and striking bases.
The very first statement is false. Jiu-jitsu is not the most effective martial art style, nor is it effective for self defence. In any street senerio, being on the ground is the absolute worse place to be. BJJ is good for competition fighting but for self defense it is not. You can't grapple more then one person.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, and there is DEFINITELY a need to systematise jujitsu teaching. But I think you overstate the value of jujitsu in the combat arena. It's just a part of the sport of MMA which is currently riding high as the next wave after boxing. In the early days, when Royce was dominating, everyone rushed to learn jujitsu, and unfortunately, the average new student is not at all discerning when selecting a club to train with. The jujitsu hype has remained, even though it is NOT the best art for most students. What's the fall off rate for new students? 50%? 80? Jujitsu has a lot of value, but by and large, it's still just an interesting combat sport amongst many.
+God Must Die God must die, you have some assumptions here, but I fail to see the logic you attempt to explain behind any of them, they are just empty statements really. Jiujitsu is very effective because how often does a fight end up on the ground in MMA, if you've watched any you'd know that it's very very often, considering wrestling/takedowns being extremely dominant in the sport. If you meet someone who specializes on taking you to the ground and submitting you (lets say you are a boxer) and you have little knowledge of defending/reversing this, you are sure to loose (I.e watch James Tony vs Randy couture). But concerning the drop out rate: The thing about juijitsu is that it's not for people with big egos, which is extremely typical in the world we live in. a lot of people simply cannot handle being tapped out over and over again, because on the ground, where technique dominates heavily, big egos and unwillingness to learn, try out new ways and adapt simply does not last.
I've always wanted to do bjj after doing martial arts for 11 years I finally went to a bjj class yesterday. It's not a Gracie academy school but good none less, I feel rather bruised up etc, but was a great experience. Going back again next week.
the problem with jiu jitsu, is that you can only defend yourself against one person. If there are two people, then one of them can kick you in the head while you're rolling around on the ground.
BJJ is terribly overrated. It's only advantage 20 years ago was it's mystery. Nobody heard of it, so it's tricks worked. I've only studied a teensie bit of BJJ, but it's enough for me to be able to grapple with them and not fall for their silly tricks.
+GracieBreakdown yeah for sure! just started at a place here in Halifax Nova Scotia. Clinch academy. Shane rice is here a black belt under Rickson. I'm learning a lot but I'd like to start right from the beginning. I think some of the purple belts and the other black belt come in in the morning so I'm going to ask if they would like to go over the punch block series and mount control as well as the clinch. :) thank you as well for the free combatitives over Christmas. One I feel cool with the first couple I'll move in to the next :)
+GracieBreakdown just thought I'd let you know I just went in and we worked on the clinch and closing the distance with an agressive attacker. and by the end we were finishing with a body fold take down. I think I'm in good hands!!
The most effective martail art? I train Kung Fu and Ninjitsu. Each contains jujitsu. Its part of a larger component, BJJ is in complete unless you are in BJJ martial sports.
+Vital Lake go to a bjj class and try it out, guys way better than you tried it and they all failed. btw no need to start insulting me, i'm saying it as it is
rener please do a easy sandwhich recipe that i can take to school for lunch cause im tired of always eating nachos with cheese.
+Daniel Henrique pls help
+Daniel Henrique just eat chicken or turkey
Josef Roesler or cold pizza
Josef Roesler shes single and works so instead of being a jerk either help or leave moron
Josef Roesler she already cooks breakfast and dinner so i dont think that thats being lazy.
This is so true. On my first day of BJJ it was no gi. Our 1st technique was holding our opponent in side control on his RIGHT side and then to arm bar his opposite LEFT arm. Why would someone teach a beginner this on their first day?😐
Mine was switching South North position and neck choke submission 🤣🤣🤣 and roll over my back take control twisting in air and apply a Kimura 😆

totally agree. I was one of the first thousand or so people that signed up at GU and bought the Combatives DVDs. Changed my game immediately.
Sadly I am taking a month off from BJJ - knee injury. I miss it so much but cant wait to get back on the mat and train smarter without injury
+DocoSeries What happened? Knee injuries seem very prevalent in this sport, I'm a little worried...
+Pseudo Symmetry I had my partners back and he was a bigger dude and rolled onto my knee. (You get that with more inexperience people, they tend to be a fish out of water and go crazy mode.) There is always a risk involved. My advice would be strengthen joints and take it easy.
+DocoSeries And don't put your hooks very deep on big beginners perhaps? Sorry to hear you got burned.
So i go to gracie clearwater in florida. There isnt a gracie family member there so what makes them allowed to use gracie in the name?
Rener I just want to say thank you, your the reason i strated jiu jitsu. and im in my fourth month in jujitsu. thank you and hope you read this. love from DUBAI
Great to hear! Keep it up!
After i talk to a great BJJ Instructor here i ask him my questions and he answred me all i want to know, so my questions from above are now finished.
Bismarck,ND...this video is awsome I am showing my 6 and 3 year old the little gjj I know I will be purchasing gracie bully proof soon and the blur belt system as Well for my self and wife hoping to continue with gjj in are lives thank you for sharing gjj to the world!! keep it playful
ppl quit because jiu jitsu is really expensive
mtl blues exactly
Having been in a traditional system in judo, then one in kendo that was closer to the Gracie philosophy (good structure, not just dependent on one or two teachers, and everyone can be a teacher to someone less experienced - this is discussed in another video on this channel), I can vouch for this philosophy.

Answer:The most effective AND organized martial art. As well as BJJ's root.
😃JUDO!!! 😃
3:40, I went to a martial art school looking for jiu jitsu but they only had tae kwon do :/
You're not the only one. Don't worry. It's only a matter of time before we have CTCs in every city.
+LanTheG thanks for the invitation,im 17 years old and good luck on your jiu jitsu journey man! :D
no problem man, cool :D tnx same to you, i hope you get a bjj academy near you soon
Bjj is tough, but not the best art in the world. Every style has its strengths and its weaknesses.
+Aldo Monti What is then sir?
joebeast15 I think I've been pretty explicit in my first comment.
Need some more in the UK.
Talk to Sacha!
We have several great CTCs there. Check the website!
He has some good points about martial arts in general. But sadly there is a lot of ego there. Even then though glad to see he's making a difference
00:01 its not all about the martial art its about the person aswell.
"Brazilian Jiujitsu is ONE of the most effective martial arts on the panet"- Corrected.
Hi Rener, I went to your seminar in Sydney (orange belt, 14 yr old) and I just wanted to let you know that I might be training at your gym around July. +GracieBreakdown
Rener is a black belt in business / communication
Vcs precisam de mais reconhecimento! Vou mandar e-mail pro combate todo dia pedindo uma matéria com vcs. Bom trabalho pessoal.
I don't like how this guy claims that it is "THE" most effective martial art. Any martial art can be effective if you practice it enough. For example, I learn Tai Chi, sadly, it's not taught very often as a martial art, but it can be very effective just like every martial art
Great way to have people train those below them, but at their level. Excellent ideas.
Well, if this is the BEST-- than one person with no training whatsoever could take the best in the Art down (correct me if I am wrong). Has a bad weakness. One clamp with teeth (tap out). Would be good to know though, in case you do land on the ground.
The thing that has me in the edge of joining is the 1 year contract. It's a big commitment
Joining a jujitsu gym by me btw. I know Gracie U. Doesn't do that. Need a ctc in Chicago Southside!
Ask the owner of you can try it for 30
Days before you commit. If you love it for 1 month, you'll love it for 12 or more! CTC coming soon!
i just joined bjj in the mma lab with couch john crouch im alreadys hooked on it!!!
I agree with LifeForce, martial arts is suppose to be dynamic and adapt
according to situations. Taking a holistic approach and applying what
techniques from any form works best for that person is true martial
arts and not confined to only grapeling. Most street fights usually have multiple people attack at once.
The last place you want to be is on the ground jacking up one person
while his other 4 friends are jacking you up.
Wrong sir... Wrong
BJJ is NOT the most effective style out there my friend.
As far as I know, there are no Gracie Schools in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Could you pls make it happen???
Dear Rener there is no any CTC in Ethiopia. I want to learn Gracie jiujitsu
+menelik mesfin GracieUniversity.com
Love the fact that you guys anwser to pretty much all the comments, show real dedication even tho you guys are surealy busy people :))) love your videos keep it up, which i could train at a ctc but i train at team bushido in ottawa but much respect to you guys
Keep it up bro!
+Billy Grimm- with zero prior experience and only doing Gracie combatives you took 1st place?
+Mr4433 no I'm a blue belt been training for about a year at that point
+mosshark Even if the only school in town doesn't offer exactly what you want, you might make friends there who are like-minded and interested in doing extra training on the side in a garage, etc.
severalpaperclips thanks
Rener as many said you an Ryron are the reason I got into jiu-jitsu. Is Ft. Lauderdale Valente Brothers a CTC? I know their school in Miami is but the one in Ft Lauderdale says it an affiliate of Valente Brothers not specifically affiliate of The Gracie Academy. Thanks again for you and your brothers enthusiasm it makes learning fun!
Bruce is great! Tell him we said hi!
+GracieBreakdown good deal thanks will do!
+chileno de corazon thank you. I'll put it in the group.
waar woon je??
+Bas Kroeze in het noorden van Overijssel. Tegen Friesland en Drenthe aan.
I would like to learn gracie but I just don't like large groups of people to train :/
Private classes!
+GracieBreakdown Become a millionaire! Haha. I'm lucky I go to morning classes and there's like 6 of us. It's a a GJJ school but it's BJJ.
Is there a Gracie jujitsu school in Denmark more space in Copenhagen
That Triple Mastery Threat is one of my go-to positions now :)
My life goal/dream/happiness is to one day teach Jiu Jitsu allllll day, every day....what better way to spend life than sharing this gift, learning AND paying it forward...
I'd do it for free as long as I had food and a roof over my head :) Jiu-Jitsu is life for me
Geraldton Australia. Would love something there lots of crime and be great to learn self defence there :)
Is there a Gracie Academy in Prague, Czech Republic? I'm going there for university in September and it has been my wish for three years now to start learning jiu jitsu but its terrible where I live right now (Kuwait)
Not yet!
+GracieBreakdown As soon as it opens I'll be the first one to roll :D
I have been training at UFC in Torrance for a little over a year with coach Novaes I want to try the Gracie Academy but someone told me I would have to start from scratch. not sure If I want to scrap a year's worth of knowledge. any thoughts
Not true! Knowledge is energy, it cannot be created or destroyed, it just changes forms from time to time. Keep all your knowledge, but come on and let us transfer more to you! Come on a Monday at 6:30pm and ask for Rener.
+GracieBreakdown I most certainly will... I really embrace the keep it playful mindset. and I love what it stands for I will see you soon.
Jui jitsu is a great effective martial art but ineffective for street fight! you don't want to go on ground in street fight.
+Aryan Zagros Cuz its a sport not a marial art
Love your channel great video! Bjj is my favorite martial art hands down. That and muay thai.
Thanks bro!
hey rener what's up? i lived in sun valley Idaho awsome sky mountain. now i'm back to Brasil. and i was thinking to open a CTC there. but i just began at jiu jitsu.
Just amazing thinking!! Hello from Denmark - Scandinavia.
I watch so many lessons and learned much right now I am into Gracie combatives , it is awlsome!!
It's the person.. Not the Style! Which means BJJ is definitely an effective but not THE most effective fighting Style.
Agreeeeeeee
I dont think that "The Best Martial Art" exist.
this video is so true but the problem is that there is not enough Gracie jiu jitsu schools
I live in tel Aviv Israel and there is not 1 bjj or gjj school here there are only mma schools
Hey GracieBreakdown, do you know if the Roger Gracie academy in London follows the same structure that you do? ( eg. Gracie combatives)
They do not, but Roger is the man so he'll take good care of you!
+GracieBreakdown Awesome, thanks for the help.
Mainstreaming of BJJ ?
Great to have one in Seattle
perth australia
Are you afghan?
any schools in Medellin, Colombia?
hey I was wondering of your opinions on jeff/Patrick Currans mixed martial arts academy? would you recommend me go there they are s
local
If you do a combination of Judo & Karate or Boxing & Wrestling to give yourselves a headstart in a street fight then you don't even need BJJ?? Although BJJ is hard work and a very effective technique wise then you don't really want to be in guard position outside a nightclub or pub on a wet Friday night!!!
Rener! Please check out my street fight video. I credit it to my training in Jiu-Jitsu and self defense. You're a huge inspiration.
I saw it yesterday! Great job. Where do you train?
I was training at Urijah Faber's Ultimate Fitness in Sacramento but moved back down to Southern California. I'm currently not training but I really hope I am able to soon! GracieBreakdown i'd love to meet up with you sometime!
+Isaiah Villa no wonder that bulldog choke was so tight!
Daaaaang! Haha, Thank You Rener! Are you at the Torrance academy?

I’m just trying to get past white belt
Thank you. Please keep up the work ❤
Grappling is a very rough sport.
mmmm I think an expert Muay Thai guy would be able to take down an expert Jui Jitsu guy with no firm knowledge of striking.
Southampton, UK
+villain2809 My apologies - I didn't explain myself clearly. I was not referring to sport fighting, but to street fighting.
+villain2809 By the way, liked what you said about big egos.
If I would find some people in the brooklyn area to do these videos with and start something
Do it!
There is nothing in Northern California. Specifically the Bay Area.
Check out empower gym. Tell them rener sent you.
No 1. Selling hoodies that cannot turn into backpacks
BJJ is terribly overrated. It's only advantage 20 years ago was it's mystery. Nobody heard of it, so it's tricks worked. I've only studied a teensie bit of BJJ, but it's enough for me to be able to grapple with them and not fall for their silly tricks.
I agree! I wanna learn the combatitives so bad!!!
Start with Gracie University and then there will be a CTC near you in no time!
+GracieBreakdown any CTC in Nova Scotia?
+GracieBreakdown just thought I'd let you know I just went in and we worked on the clinch and closing the distance with an agressive attacker. and by the end we were finishing with a body fold take down. I think I'm in good hands!!
he's pretty smart guy
The most effective martail art? I train Kung Fu and Ninjitsu. Each contains jujitsu. Its part of a larger component, BJJ is in complete unless you are in BJJ martial sports.
Watch UFC 1,2,3,i train Muay Thai, but BJJ really the most effective.
Not in a street fight. I will tear up a bjj guy on the ground if its life or death.
+Vital Lake no you won't
+Vital Lake no you won't (2)
+Vital Lake go to a bjj class and try it out, guys way better than you tried it and they all failed.
btw no need to start insulting me, i'm saying it as it is
