Lot’s of people think his peak was on the Clippers but it was definitely his 2019 season in Detroit. The way he led them to the playoffs, peaked as a shooter and playmaker is more impressive than anything he’s done.
i'm really interested to see how well he'll operate with the Celtics, and i'm glad Blake Griffin is still in the league, he's still not the player he was once was and he's a shell of himself but i'm glad hes still contributing in different ways with his game, it's really a shame on how he could've won an MVP for sure during those years with the Clippers
I would love to see Blake Griffin have a second "resurgence" in Boston, but there's no reason to believe he'll play any better than he did for the Brooklyn Nets. Basically, Griffin is ring-chasing, at this point, and the Celtics had injuries to both Robert Williams and Luke Kornet they will not recover from before the season begins. Blake is basically there to make sure Noah Vonleh has someone to challenge him for that roster spot. 💁🏻♂️🏀🏆
Started following the Clippers the year they drafted him, saw his evolution from an almost exclusively paint-only scorer to extending his game to the mid range to becoming a point forward when CP was injured to being one hell of a ball-handler and now here we are, an Andy Hoops video on how good Prime BG was. Man, it's been a long time suffering as a Clippers fan lol.

Very similar career to Amare. Came in dominating relying on his athleticism, put up great regular season stats, didn't do much in the playoffs. Once he got older and athleticism started to go and combine that with injuries, he fell off hard.
Gotta disagree a bit there I'd say both peaked after their athletic prime, Blake his 1st year with the pistons and Amare his 1st year with the Knicks. Then after that neither could stay healthy but we're still effective when they could get on the court

I hate the injuries started to get to him right as he was expanding his game. Those CP3 years you really saw him flourish and become a better overall player. Even added a 3! I hope he’s remembered for more than just the highlight dunks
Agree. To say Blake had a poor work ethic doesn’t make sense to me because year after year he added to his game. The injuries always just came at the worst times like imagine a world where Blake kept growing as a player without having to deal with that shit
Fan of Blake, if he was still playing for Clippers he would give all his best. It sucks how Clippers did him dirty and really changed his approach to his own career and now he wants to contribute to a winning team for a ring. Wherever he goes, I’ll always support him.
Prime Blake is a sure top 5 power forward and a top 10 player during the Lob City era. He sure play like an MVP candidate when Chris Paul sat out due to injury and it's a quite shame he couldn't find any Playoff success there.
i don't think so. You should drop around 30 ppg, or play good defense with 20+ ppg. Yes, he was an allstar, earned it, but not an MVP, or an all time great caliber.
On the one hand Blake had so much athleticism and coordination and on the other hand his body consistently didn't have the ability to stay healthy down the stretch. Blake was strong yet weak at the same time. Blake would show flashes all season then couldn't finish when it mattered most in the playoffs. Unfortunately, this will be his legacy. This may be Chris Paul's legacy too.
I didn't realize what prime BG was capable of. Crazy to think despite those injuries, he's still getting solid numbers from the bench now. It also explains why the Celtics are keeping him as a backup and not giving him as many minutes or as many games. Gotta keep him healthy for the playoffs. Also, major Bill Walton vibes. Dominant player everyone thought was washed and injured but coming to a contending team as a support player. Would be a fairy tale for sure if Celtics win a ring
I don’t think he was lazy, I just think the clippers never asked him to be more than who he was. In Detroit he had to shoot more jumpers because of his aging body and lack of playmakers around him. Also the nba changed so much from when he started his career. If he came into the league rn he’d be a much more “well rounded” offensive player just because of how more relevant the 3 point shot an midrange is for bigs today.
People also misremember how much Blake developed his game on the clippers. He came in mainly as a pick and roll dunker with a nice face up game but was a legitimate mid range demon plus playmaking point forward type by the time he was traded. Playing with cp3 and especially under doc though limited him from his true potential though which I think people saw in Detroit.
Man I use to watch Blake Griffin back in his prime he was so good the lob city era of him cp3 and DeAndre Jordan. But then so unfortunate luck headed his way with the injuries. Is it bad i compared him to giannis before giannis played? Amare was a good comparison too i remember every clipper announcer yell from the top of his lungs SLAMMMM DUNK. Its crazy he declined tho now he's with the celtics

Blake was amazing unfortunately he and Chris Paul would always get injured in the playoffs and the few times they weren't injured in the playoffs they ended up choking but Prime Blake Griffin was amazing to watch as fun as it is to watch somebody like Zion
It's good you made one of these for Blake Griffin. I got into the NBA about 7 years ago and for most of that time, Griffin has been pretty forgettable. I think it's good to actually recognize how good he once was. Further, it highlights how taxing pro sports can be on the body--even for gifted athletes like him.

He’s obviously not 1 in a redraft but it’s hard to say if his career is of a 1st pick caliber. I’d say probably not just due to durability but he sold tickets I’ll give him that any day.
I think the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons when Blake Griffin was injured most of the season overshadowed his impact because CP3, DJ, Reddick and Crawford had similar regular season records compared when he was healthy.
TBH in 2019 if he never got injured on the Pistons, and had a normal age drop off, his game he would have been like a 8 time all star instead of 6, cause he developed a good new skillset paired with the last bit of his high level athleticism.
