I'm Brazilian, but I currently live in Thailand, it's a wonderful country and I feel very good living here. I currently speak 3 languages, Portuguese, Spanish, and English, but recently I started studying Thai and I'm very excited to learn!
As a Northern Thai, I have acquainted with a lot of Tai Yai people before. From the naked eyes, they look the same as any Northerners. If I’m not wrong, genetically Tai-Yai and Northern Thai are basically the same people and their language is somewhat similar to our dialect. If I concentrate enough, I can guess the meaning from the context. Their food are some of the best though
yeah that’s the fun part of being Thai. im Thai from Bangkok but it’s always make me happy to know that our Tai-Kadai family are spread across various countries in Asia and we could still learn about their language, culture, and return to the original roots of Tai ancestor that modern Thai nowadays lost or don’t have anymore.
Thai people don’t care you are Tai-Yai ,Shan or else. Myanmar is Thai's friend. We don't see Tai- Yai as foreigner but instead Tai-Yai is our closed related. Joyce your Thai is good and improve every single days.
And many Thais also look down on Burmese as well other people such as Laotians, Cambodians, & Indians. And many of the modern day slaves in Thailand are Burmese.
@@parichartboonmee9365 : No! Thais, in general, have some sorts of the sense of superiority over people from poorer nations and tend to mistreat and/or look down on them. It is the same sense that the Koreans have over people from S.E. Asia, including the Thais (that are living & working in S. Korea). The Shan are a people living in Shan State. Located next to Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. (80% of Shan people living in Shan State can speak Thai)
i am also a Shan people living in Myanmar Shan and Thai languages are so similar but Shan language extremely different from Burmese or Myanmar language even though we live in the same country
Just goes to show how diverse Thailand is. I know Tai Yai. Also alot of Myanmar people in Thailand; you can tell as there is alot of Burmese script on signs, etc, and they are very diverse too! Hope peace comes to Myanmar one day.
I pretty sure most Thai able to detect Burmese but your friend is exceptional, she look 95% Thai, her face and everything, i only realize she foreigner after heard she spoke 😂 and she so beautiful 💓
Because she is Tai Yai not Burmese. Genetically, Tai Yai are closer to Thai people more than Burmese. Thai language and Tai Yai language are belong to Tai Kradai language family. Pretty much we are in the same group of race.
To me the main reason why I’m moving and leaving America for good is because it’s too negative and so much economical unrest here.In Thailand just like the Philippines it depends on where u live if you live outside of Bangkok and outside of Pattaya the cost of living will be a lot cheaper.
north Myanmar , Laos, Thailand, some north Vietnam and some south of china they do speak Tai-Kadai family language 30-80% we can understand each other and if you look at history before World war 1 and 2 I think some land was a part of Thailand
Let me explain a bit. Tai Yai in English, is called Tai or Dai. Shan is a geographic region. The umbrella term includes many ethnic groups living in such as Tai, Pa'O, Akha, Ta'ang, Lisu, Kachin etc. For The term "Burmese" is commonly used to describe the major ethnic group in Myanmar, known as the Bamar people not Tai/Dai. Some Tai people don't like to be called Burmese or (Pama = Bamar in Thai) because they don't think they are Burmese and call themselves Tai Yai instead, but some don't really care.
Wow...I just realized your friend is our relative Tai-Yai from Shan. First time I saw her I though she came from somewhere in the far North. TBH both of you looks like normal Thai women we can see on the street of BKK. One from the chinese family in the central and another from the north. 😊
Both of you are intelligent and young ladies, who have a lot of potential. I graduated from a top college and I'm now in the UK. I occasionally travel to Europe for conferences. I am probably around ten years older than both of you. My advice is you got to be working extremely hard if you want to go to Europe. I was also once in that honeymoon period with myself while working, studying and travelling in Singapore and Hong Kong, however don't stay there and wander for too long. By the time you start figuring out your life, there's a likelihood that we're already too old. That's what happened to me as I wandered too long.
When both of you talked about Chinese such as mandarin or HK accents, I was looking for to listening and judging who would be the standard one, but it was an ending talk 😂😂😂😂
you look so happy with your friend there. Guess you can be both types of girl. for YT you are pleasant and something to watch for calming down. (dont know if that came out right) Thank you for new video
Hi, Joyce I'm gonna be in Thailand in December for 9 weeks there any place would you recommend me to visit such as restaurants or sights seeing places.
It would be fun and better audience-drawing to see both of you converse in all languages you are able to speak. It could be a video of two of you chatting, even in one sentence in one language and the next sentence in a different language.
Oh no wonder why your friends look so indistinguishable from Thais. At first I wondered why her Thai accent was so good. (usually Burmese people have trouble pronouncing many Thai consonants because these two languages are very different.) btw, many Thai people consider Tai-Yai to be Thai as well. (similar to the case of Laos), especially people who have some knowledge of history and people in the northern region who have heard elders say that in the past people still traveled back and forth between Thailand and Shan State.
Shan was part of Thailand but when the British came to Burma, Thailand lost Shan to the British. When Burma became independent from the British, the British asked Shan which country they wanted to be with Burma or Thailand. They chose Burma because at that time Burma was more civilized than Thailand.
