i know this doco is 3 yrs old, i used to go there with my uncle from about the age of 4 ( 1966 ) until i moved to Australia in 2001. loved going there and over the years the surroundings of the track have changed so much, noticing now bigger gravel traps, less trees, i see more grandstands, we used to stand at paddock bend. walked the grand prix circuit many times when the racing used it. went to silverstone once and thought it wasnt a patch on brands.
Do you remember Minter's cafe? Basically a shed that sold brown stuff that was allegedly tea. I used to go with my Dad from when I was 5 (1963) for years until we left the area. We'd see a lot of club races as well as the big races. My Dad actually did a lot of work for a family called Hillman and used to go to watch a couple of the lads boxing, they were quite successful . Back then the fences were wooden stakes and wire, hard to believe now.
Three reasons why the GP loop isn't used much. 1. Hiring Marshall's around the track costs a lot for the day. 2. Spectator viewing is pretty poor around the forest around the back and 3. noise complaints if you look at the right angle at Sheene curve and clearways you can see some houses and they complain about noise around the back section but if I were living near the GP loop i would love it, hearing cars race round from my back garden. I wouldnt complain at all. Anyway great video and I hope it helps you guys on why the good part of brands is dormant.
This is excellent, thanks! I'm visiting for the first time (in fact, my first ever race track experience) for the GT World Challenge next weekend. This has really helped me to learn a bit more prior to my trip! Thanks!
Great video! Really good history lesson. Been to brands loads of times. For people who have not been before, the outer GP circuit is good to view as you are so close. But they have put up extra fencing this year!
I might be biased as it is my local circuit but it is THE best track in the world, I count my blessings to live a few miles away so can visit at any time . . . & yes, I went to watch Zanardi do his stuff in the Paralympic games in 2012, Brands is a gift that keeps on giving ;-)
Loved the video Alex, definitely cannot wait for more. My only complaint would be that you should add some engine noise to the gameplay portion of it in the background.
A stunning track all around! Went for the BTCC finale last year and if you sit in Hailwoods grandstand you can see a lot of the circuit. However soon the GP loop will not be publicly assesible due to safety bs or something like that :(
Mark Horner Yeah it's because the DTM is coming back to brands Hatch. Between 2006 and 2013 it was held on the Indy circuit, but this year it is going to be on the GP. The cars are going to be hitting crazy speeds, especially down Pilgrims drop. So MSV are having to cut off some viewing areas for safety ( the areas with no catchfencing ) and are putting more fencing around the circuit.
Luca Townsend That is fair enoufg for the DTM however I can't see why the BTCC folks would have to be affected though. It's massively annoying. I would only block the GP loop off for the DTM and all the high speed cars
Mark Horner Agreed. I always watch the BTCC at Sheene curve as the cars are very quick through there. I will be very angry if that section gets closed off
Luca Townsend Although I don't tend to go on the GP loop, I would like to keep it open for the other fans who do and like going down there! It looks super fun to be down there :)
This is really good although I didn't have much particular interest in knowing about the Brands Hatch circuit per say, it kept my interest, I think because it was presented so well in such a professional manner.
They at first were going to run it anti-clockwise to be more in sync with the primarily oval racers but the decision was made to go with usual direction
When you do your next documentary you should talk about some of the best races around the circuit from each series what race round the track. For example British Superbikes Brands Hatch 2011 final race Tommy HIll vs John Hopkins an absolute stunning last race
Great stuff! The only thing I'd say is to leave photos and video clips up longer instead of cutting back to you. I'd love to look at some of those old pics longer without having to pause or go back. Cheers!
They don't have big motorcycling events at Brands Hatch because of how dangerous it is, especially at Hawthorns where the British Superbikes get to 170mph down Pilgrims and hit the wall at about 120mph. Watch Leon Haslam's crash there from the 2017 BSB season, probably the most horrific non-fatal crash I've ever seen.
Pacific Raceways in Seattle.... I know it isn't used much (outside of drag racing), and the road course isn't really that popular, but it has much of the same vibe as Brands Hatch. Fast, flowing, undulating- and it's based around a drag strip.
Yes, I know how expensive it can be. I have priced tickets to the U.K. to visit family. Anyways, I hope you can make it out, Mosport is an awesome track, and even though it is pretty 'rustic', it is a great place to camp and enjoy some racing action!

i love the track and i had played that in my f1 2013 i enjoy it a lot

Absolutely love this place. My favourite UK circuit - I like standing at Paddock or Dingle Dell (Sheene).
Brands Hatch Grand Prix cricuit is in my opinion one of the best race tracks in the world and you did a great video about it!

Donington Park please! Love that circuit 👌

Be fun to see you try walking around the Nordschleife xD
Great content man! Glad I found the channel. I know I’m a bit late
Good video, would like to see some more videos like this at other tracks.
Seen bttc final about 4 years ago and seeing dtm this year now that it's back . Can't wait
Thanks for a great vid! Realy great track...in my top 10...
There was a USAC Indy Car race on the Indy Circuit in the 1970s.
Great video! I hope this series will feature Zandvoort at some time.
Loved the video Alex, definitely cannot wait for more. My only complaint would be that you should add some engine noise to the gameplay portion of it in the background.
yeah it didnt record sadly, i wanted it there :L
Alright Alex, good to know. Cheers for the reply!
Very good documentary of the circuit!

they are 2 of my favorite tracks, great vid btw

Donington Park, Thruxton and Castle Combe. I think they're good tracks and I have been their for racing.
I enjoyed this video very much. Do you think that Brands will ever host the British GP again? How about an in depth look at the Hochenheim Ring?
I've been watching this whilst at brands Hatch
Great stuff! The only thing I'd say is to leave photos and video clips up longer instead of cutting back to you. I'd love to look at some of those old pics longer without having to pause or go back.

4:56 Quite an infamous corner in terms of the 2017 BTCC finale (race 30) !
yes!
